I Wasn't Loud Enough The First Time Podcast

By A'nire Glenn

I wasn't loud enough the first time is a podcast hosted by A'nire, a young intellectual ready to share her observations about the world. The podcast will cover topics including being louder in spaces and places such as school, at the job, friendships, relationships, with family, creatively, in uncomfortable, awkward or confrontational situations and more. This is a safe space for people who feel as though they were not loud enough the first time. We will now give ourselves permission to be loud about what WE choose with a sweet dose of humor and realness.

Episode 51: Save A Little For Yourself FT @heyitskmatt PT.1

My homie KMatt (@heyitskmatt) and I FINALLY let y’all in! We have insightful conversations often, and I thought it was time to share. On this episode, we’re going there…. like…heavily against the grain. We’ve asked ourselves, at what cost do you sell away privacy, access, and honestly, sanity to socials and IRL!? Especially as communications/social media pros. We bring you the not-so-original but very impactful notion of “Saving a little for yourself.” Hit us on our socials & let us know what you think!

(i’m being somewhat sensitive because I know we’re over talking about it🙃) but this episode isn’t about the P, it’s about what happens after the P and how much we have to look forward to now that P is behind us. Although I believe being a jack of all trades is fine, I know that many of us would love to have that ONE thing that we know like the back of our hand. Episode 35: I'm MY Ancestors Wildest Dream: How Many More Days?

Episode 35: I'm MY Ancestors Wildest Dream: How Many More Days?

Everybody has to go!  Eventually, everyone's clock will run out. I don't mean this in a way to make you panic, but if it does, think about why you feel that way. What is it about us that makes us think we will continue to get day after day on this planet? Even worse, so many days are wasted because we lack the confidence, drive and desire to be bold or dare I say, LOUD ENOUGH THE FIRST TIME, to seize the day.  With all that we've accomplished, all that others have gone through just so we could LIVE, we must do just that! Live to the FULLEST! Right where we are with the money we have, the bodies we have, and the circumstances we have TODAY.

Episode 32: I'm MY ancestors wildest dream?? PT.1

Episode 32: I'm MY ancestors wildest dream?? PT.1

You hear it all the time "We are our ancestors' wildest dreams" BUT in what ways? . . I thought about this for a while-that phrase has always stunned me! The conversation is often surrounding getting degrees, working a job, or getting a "bag" but you know me, what about your soul hun? Did they really dream of us doing MORE labor? . . Maybe it’s self-soothing to justified the rampant capitalism we innately surrender to….but let me re-focus! . . All I’ll say is knowing MY and OUR people, hearing the stories about how outspoken, direct, driven and unique they were, I think back to my direct ancestors and what their dreams would be for me based on who they were as individuals. . . I think their dreams for me were grander yet simpler than I realized...

Why Would EYE Switch Out A Dime For A Penny?! Yes, Memphis-born rapper Moneybagg Yo has is my muse for this episode.  When I heard that line, I didn't think about a relationship, I thought about my dreams (plans) and how I am only cheating myself by not making them as big as possible. Even more than that, I'm looking forward to the day that I am no longer talking about what I want to do, but reflecting it in my life. I will not be just a dreamer forever!

Season 2 Episode 15: Why Veganism Could Save Your Life

Season 2 Episode 15: Why Veganism Could Save Your Life

Hear me out, or don't: This was no easy episode; I had to take my own advice and encourage myself to be #loudenoughthefirsttime.  As you listen, you'll find out why.  First, I am NOT the one to fight you to drop the pork chop! I don't fight, and I don't argue... that's not my ministry. However, I'm a nerd when it comes to documentaries, lectures, and interviews, and I love to share what I learn! Also, if you knew how many people ask me if I still eat eggs, and seafood or if I'm starving (obviously not-?¿?¿), then you'd know why I had to make this episode.  SO much is misunderstood about veganism. So I decided that instead of raising MY blood pressure (which is very unhealthy : ), I should do my part and provide resources to anyone who wants to know more about veganism (even my already vegan fam out there!) In this episode, I talk about some of the research and the benefits of a vegan/plant-based L i f e s t y l e. Now, I am not here for ANY foolishness (just a little if it's fun) so if you have Google-able questions, please, in #DrUmar's voice, look it up!  There are so many opportunities for us to live better and be better. As many people today are awakening and are open to learning about vegan + holistic lifestyles, it is my pleasure to share my experience with you! Enjoy.

Everyone's thick of it is something different, but regardless, be proud of YOURSELF and live a life of gratitude! You're making it!

Season 2 Episode 11: The Side Effects Of Detoxing

Season 2 Episode 11: The Side Effects Of Detoxing

Let me tell you about my personal side effects of detoxing that no one talks about.  I went beast mode at the beginning of 2021 with vegan detoxes. BUT that left me ending the last one a week earlier.  I will say that detoxing is a powerful game-changer IF DONE CORRECTLY. However, not being prepared/not doing your research takes away from the experience. In this episode, I walk you through where I went wrong with doing vegan detoxes back to back. Also, please know that there are PLENTY of positives that I gain from detoxing as well!  I hope you enjoy this episode!

Season 2 Episode 8: We Are The Ones We're Looking For

It's easy to look for a savior when you don't believe in yourself.  Sometimes we look at a celebrity or a significant other as someone more worthy of praise than we are. Remember, you lack NOTHING! Often, the thing we admire most about another person is something we THINK we don't have. But, I'd like to inspire you to believe differently. To believe you are more capable than you think. I'm here to tell you that WE ARE THE ONES WE'RE LOOKING FOR! I hope you feel empowered after this episode!

Season 2 Episode 7: What The Freak Is Livin’ Single?

What does singleness mean to you? Can someone pleaseeee help me?! What the FREAK is livin' single? I've heard all types of definitions of what "singleness" is. Sometimes it's situationships, (That I am not into. Refer to season one's episode "I don't wanna play no games") or singleness depends on who's asking. Either way, I am completely confused! My singleness is FORREAL! No phone chirping, no dates, no prospects, no lineup or roster. But I started to feel weird admitting that. In this episode, I bring you into my spiral of confusion! I also ask that you DM or comment on IWLEFT's TW or IG and let me know what you think singleness is.

Season 2 Episode 6: Give Yourself A Chance To Start

Have you ever been so worried about perfecting a project that you didn’t even start it or complete it? We have to stop doing this to ourselves! We get so tied into the small details and obsessed with perfection that we don’t even give ourselves a chance to START! I promise IT IS WORTH IT! Because even if you “fail,” you will learn something new! Stop being so worried about being perfect! Perfection does not equal excellence! Ever heard of the saying “a perfect MESS”? Point proved! Remember, the world needs and wants what you have; give yourself a chance.

Season 2 Episode 5: Old Fools Do Live

Season 2 Episode 5: Old Fools Do Live

"Age is just a number. Life and aging are the greatest gifts that we could possibly ever have." - Cicely Tyson I believe there's a difference between someone being an elder and an older person. Have you ever had an experience with an older person where they insisted (sometimes in a maniacal way) that you knew nothing just because you were young? Did they also figure they reigned supreme simply because of their number of years on Earth?  I've had SEVERAL experiences like this. I don't believe it's necessary to be torn down, disrespected, or dismissed because I am a young person. EVERYONE has a story! Everyone has wisdom to share. We ALL deserve the space to use our voices and be respected in return.   The number of years someone has lived does NOT signify their knowledge, character, or wisdom.  What I've learned from many of my experiences is that "Old fools do live."

Season 2 Episode 4: Promote What You Love!

It's so easy to be negative! TOO easy! What is something that you love and don't talk about enough? That's where more energy should flow! (Where attention goes, energy flows.) We often talk about our upsets, disappointments, and shortcomings in this world but stutter when it's time to talk about what we ACTUALLY enjoy... that's GOOD for our well-being! In this episode, I want to remind everyone, simply promote what you love!

Season 2 Episode 3: The Constant State Of Healing w/ Nadi Body

*TRIGGER WARNING* (This episode is more intense than usual. We discuss sexual assault, abuse, and various types of traumas.) We do not simply heal; we are in a constant state of heal-ING. The "ing" takes dedication, awareness, and ongoing WORK, amongst other things. In this episode, my good sis Nadia (UPDATE: @IamNadiBody is now @LOWKEYNadia on IG) joins to discuss just how deep healing gets. We go over why it's important to heal, when you know it's time and how to heal. Of course, we talk about the different things we are healing from, including our traumas. With both of us being vegan and embarking on our holistic health journey, we hope the gems we've shared will inspire you to begin healing and do so with enthusiasm! We encourage you not only to start but to find resources and a community where you feel supported.

Detachment

Detachment

Detachment is a beautiful thing! (In the right situation). Sometimes that's all we need. I detach to re-center, re-focus and ground myself. I love reading Buddhist teachings and have adopted them for spiritual development. Honestly..... detachment has been my favorite lesson so far.  Holding on to EVERYTHING leaves little room for you to grab anything. Do you ever wonder if your things are running you? Are you on a hamster wheel? Do you take other peoples perceptions personally? I did. I still do! BUT I love when I realize how and where I waste my precious energy and I simply detach.  "In silence, outside of flustering and confusion that the world brings, our answers await." -Nebula  I hope you enjoy this episode.

P E A C E

P E A C E

Have you heard Miss Lauryn Hill's "I gotta find peace of mind" ? if not, please do.  We know the world is a MESS. Always has been and will probably always be. Since Eve and Adam bit the "apple" or since our monkey cousins jumped out of trees and started walking upright or whatever you believe, the world has literally been in SHAMBLES since day one. Relieve yourself of the illogical notion that you are responsible for saving mankind. Just go cry.  With all things considered, your life does not have to be..... a mess. Or sad. Or an abyss of depression and grief. Peace is obtainable.  What does peace look like to you? Create it, find it, whatever, just get yourself a piece of peace before you give up!  Allow yourself the space for peace. Make arrangements for peace. You deserve it!

Only For A While

Only For A While

You are not stuck! The only limits that exist are the ones that we create and agree to! Where you are is temporary and if you want to go further you absolutely can. Just look at how far you've come. I named this episode after one of my favorites songs by Anita Baker. My freshman year of college I played this song on loop at least a literal 50 times. Of course, I was going through "the struggle" but hearing this song helped me pull it together. Find that thing that makes you feel alive again.  A song, movie, place, etc. which reminds you to be grateful. Even through all of our mess there is still something to be grateful for. Even if it's just the opportunity to move on from where we are now.

I Don't Wanna Play No Games

I Don't Wanna Play No Games

Hopefully the title is loud enough for you, because this episode is exactly that; I don't wanna play no games. After entering the "dating world" if you will, I realized that there are so many rules and games that I didn't know existed. Even after knowing, I've decided that they just aren't for me. Trying to always be a step ahead, mimicking  emotional avoidance so that I convince myself I don't care either, maintaining mountains of secrecy and pettiness, made me feel as though I was slowly changing who I am all in the name of the game. I simply could not keep up and I really didn't want to. Besides, it makes no sense to me to make these (unproductive might I add,) adjustments for a person I'm not romantically interested in. All this energy for a "TALKING STAGE"? I think not! If I wouldn't do this in any other scenario or relationship, why start here? The "benefits" just didn't seem like enough to keep compromising myself for. So, while seeing the bigger picture, I decided in the tune of Chris Brown + Drake's No Guidance that, "I don't wanna play no games."

Who you calling fat?

Who you calling fat?

In this episode, I talk about being fat. Also phat for people who don't rock with the word fat. Awkward situations have come up where people have felt the need to remind me that I am bigger than them. I think it's odd that there are expectations for "fat" people as far as self-esteem, relationships, dressing, etc. yet here we are.

Stay Inspired

Stay Inspired

Inspiration comes from the strangest places. Play this on a walk. Play this in the car. Play this when you need positivity. Play this when you're up late thinking about your next move. Play this when you need new ideas, as will I.  P.S. I was in my Nina Simone, Maya Angelou, and Toni Morrison bag.  Just wanted to share some thinking out loud. I hope the words hit your spirit. If they do, let me know : )

Let Spirit Lead

Let Spirit Lead

Sometimes the best thing to do is let go and let spirit lead you.  On this episode @NadiBody shares her journey to being the boss of her own life. Healing traumas, venturing through academia, professional life and personal life is no joke. However, it can be accomplished with some added humor, patience and grace for yourself.

Confronting Loss

Confronting Loss

For awhile now, I've been getting messages from people and spirit pushing me to begin on my shadow work. From what I understand, shadow work deals with confronting and healing things that are within our subconscious but rule more of our lives than we think. I surely know that I have been neglecting dealing with loss. I keep getting these messages to tap into the darkest parts of myself, stop running from my truth, emotions, sorrow and loss. So here's me sticking my toe into the pool of my shadows. I don't know if this will turn out to be a kitty pool or an ocean, hopefully it's somewhere in between. Either way, I am excited to be on my journey and I hope everyone else can learn and grow as well. I also created a "Feel Better" playlist on Apple Music compiled of some of the songs I listen to in order to be in a place of gratitude. I hope you enjoy and please don't forget to rate the podcast, leave comments and follow the Instagram page @IWASNTLOUDENOUGHPODCAST or @IWLEFT. Be Active In Your Brainwashing ✨

Be Active In Your Brainwashing ✨

The gag is, we are all brainwashed and will continue to be. But, the other gag is that we can participate in our brainwashing if we choose. How we "self care" goes beyond eating Hershey bars, soaking in bubble baths, sipping champagne and lighting ocean breeze candles. Internal self care is a THING. We can "brainwash" our minds in order to speak better to ourselves and care for ourselves. With all of the influences in life and on social media, it is important that we are accountable in filtering what comes in our mind which ultimately impacts our internal dialogue. July 28, 2020

I'm Not Going To Cry

I'm Not Going To Cry

On this episode, our guest or what I'd like to call our company, is Thee Nathan Vinson or as Twitter knows him, @TheGreatIsNate.
Nathan and I have been friends since our freshman at FAMU. After sticking with me through three majors, a slew of disappointments, set backs, life changing circumstances, Nathan is still here for me till this day. Together we discuss what it took for us to make it to where we are now and the inception of the I Wasn't Loud Enough The First Time Podcast.
