James Murphy is a secondary school teacher from Newry, Co Down but is now teaching music and religion in Tullamore, Co Offaly. He graduated in the North of Ireland, therefore experiencing their equivalent to Droichead, the three-year EPD or Early Professional Development programme. James wishes to share his knowledge on Retrieval practice which he studied during this period and has continued to develop in his own classroom setting. It as an effective Teaching and learning strategy that challenges some of the more common practices, we all fall into as teachers.

Paudie Moore, a qualified teacher since 2015, taught in the UK for 2 years before moving to Dubai in 2017 for another 2 years. He struggled as an NQT and consequently, with his weight and by 23 was also struggling to walk up the stairs with ease. He figured out slowly, how to manage it from 2017. He then spent three years working in the fitness industry in Dubai before returning to Ireland and he has now set up a business as a Teacher Transformation Coach to support the wellbeing of teachers by focussing on exercise, nutrition and lifestyle. Ep 41 Research Focus: Parenting Interventions in a DEIS school.
Ann Marie McGovern finished her research Masters in Maynooth in 2018 titled, ‘A case study of parents’ and children’s experiences of family life and in marginalised communities with implications for parenting interventions, educational welfare policy and practice.’ It specifically looked at parenting interventions in DEIS schools. This focus was informed by her previous role as Home School Community Liaison. She has since gone on to complete a secondment with TESS, Tusla’s Educational Support Service, to manage the HSCL scheme.

Sinead Collins is a teacher in a DEIS school in North Dublin who has just finished a period of 5 years as a Home School Community Liaison. She has also this year, completed her Master of Education through Maynooth University on Trauma Informed Practices. Throughout the last five years she has supported families of students with attendance issues, ran whole school initiatives including DEIS target list initiatives and responded and supported students with referrals from student support teams. Karen Jordan is Principal of St Catherine’s National school under Church of Ireland management, a school located in Dublin 8. Currently, the school has eight full time teachers, four Special Education Teachers and four special needs assistants. St Catherine’s is a primary school battling for almost a decade for upgraded classroom accommodation. Currently, 18 staff are forced to use one disabled bathroom. Karen talks about the highs and lows of her leadership journey.
Ep 32 The all important Principal and Deputy Principal dynamic with Des Sutton and Meree O'Sullivan
Des Sutton and Meree O’Sullivan worked together as colleagues since 1994 when Des moved from the job of Principal in Ballyroan, Co. Laois into what was at the time the CBS in Portlaoise. The pair clicked as they both had a common vision of education and a desire to help the student who needed it most. Meree, came to Laois from Donegal aged 11 and stayed working in the same school throughout her career, eventually becoming deputy Principal.
