boy howdy are larries miserable on this day, 21 january 2021! welcome to the podcast episode that is being used to relaunch SLS at anticonspiracist.tumblr.com! in this episode, BTL joins me to give a retrospective on larries since 2017 (when SLS the blog and YT channel was launched) and where larries are today in 2022. we discuss our goals as antis in 2017, whether or not we feel we've achieved them, as well as give some predictions for larries in 2022. lastly, we discuss some recent notable exits!

on this episode, @back-to-louis and @shit-larries-say are joined by the blogger formerly known as @yorkshireanti, @featherpepper! this is a wide-ranging discussion that starts in bandom and references some other fandoms along the way. we also discuss how media fandoms differ from RPF fandoms and how those differences might have impacted the way some tinhats behave. 

an important note: we recorded this episode on sunday, october 24, prior to zayn's legal issues. while he isn't a focus of this episode, we wanted to make our timeline clear.

a larrie tries to pretend not to be a conspiracy theorist by bringing up more conspiracy theories and pretending they're proven fact. 

a book is being written about fandom and one larrie in particular is NOT happy about the fact-checking process. back-to-louis joins me in relating our own experience with being interviewed, our fact-checking input, and of course, why larrie(s) are melting down.

back-to-louis joins me to discuss our past fandoms to give some context for our approaches to 1D fandom over these last few years.

For this episode I was joined by @aimmyarrowshigh from @imetyouonljpodcast​ to discuss all of the different ways we see antisemitism manifest in fandom (and, guess what -- daily life). Topics discussed: how we found each other online, V’s personal experiences with being a Jewish fangirl, cultural Christianity, the pressures of assimilation, a whole slew of antisemitic canards that are found in life and especially fandom, Zionism and anti-Zionism, brief mentions of history lessons I’ve taught in the past on this subject (and how high school history teachers have SO MUCH TO TEACH IN SO LITTLE TIME WE’RE TRYING), Anne Frank in our curricula, and more (including us being unable to pin down the novel Trilby as the work from which we get the Svengali character).

wherein SLS rants a little bit about some posts she saw while scrolling. this is what happens when SLS listens to and reads basically ONLY qanon analysis and conspiracism research when she is not at work. sry not sry!!!!!!

the audio is kind of sketch but BTL and SLS wanted to bring this convo from yesterday's recording sesh. as larries whine today (10/23/20) about louis continuing his life as normal and his younger sister posting a picture of her nephew and NOTHING HAPPENING TO *** ** (didn't we TELL you this would happen???), BTL explains why she hates update accounts and how they're an outgrowth of CT fandom creep. SLS doubles down on her belief that larries don't know how to fandom.

@thesecondwarm joins me to discuss fandom racism and zayn malik. as the only non-white former member of one direction, zayn was confronted with racist and islamophobic rhetoric, memes, and “jokes.” and was fandom a place where these conversations could be had? turns out, not so much! has fandom matured enough to have these conversations today? I’m not sure.

finally, we tackle the weed video and how fandom reacted to louis's use of a form of the n-word, the night changes music video, and how fandom has reacted to the black lives matter movement from 2017 to today. ALSO an update on how some twitter harries view lizzo! (spoiler: it's not good.)

explanations of some racist stereotypes that have played out in this fandom... and it's not just conspiracy theorists who are engaging in them.

... except that's not how it actually works. you have probably heard this platitude from someone who's trying to comfort you after a bad thing has happened. maybe you lost your job, or a loved one is in the hospital. it can be comforting to think there is a grand plan out there and everything that happens is just pushing you toward that plan. don't shoot the messenger, but the universe is chaotic. we'll take a look at how conspiracy theorists apply this platitude to their worldview, and why it just doesn't work that way. welcome to hypersensitive agency detection.

this is more along the lines of the youtube videos, where a particular negative aspect of the larrie view of the world is explained with examples. we’ll start with a (hopefully helpful) explanation of classism and some context regarding social class in the usa vs. uk, and then move on to giving examples of classism in larrie theory. finally, we’ll wrap up with a guess at the “why” of it.
