#59 Catherine Byrnes - What is school for?

#59 Catherine Byrnes - What is school for?

Unlike many who head to university straight out of high school, Catherine took a different path, living life and gaining experiences until a dream took hold at the age of 33 — the dream of becoming a teacher.

She found herself standing at the front of a classroom filled with 30 eager faces. But as she navigated the ins and outs of the education system, she couldn't help but feel a sense of disillusionment. It led her to question the very core of our educational institutions.

So, she began to ask herself, what is the true purpose of education? Are we genuinely preparing students for the challenges of life beyond the classroom, or have we become entangled in a system that has lost its way?"

#57 Gerard Donohue - The Imprimatur

#57 Gerard Donohue - The Imprimatur

This story is about a retired man named Gerard Donohue, and his journey involving a concept known as a "writ."

A writ is a formal written order or directive issued by a legal authority, such as a court or government agency. In the context of elections and electoral systems, a writ is often used to call for elections, outlining crucial details like the election date, location, and other essential information.

Gerard's life story takes a unique turn with his passionate advocacy for electoral reform in Australia. Born and raised in Country Victoria, Gerard's retirement didn't mean he was done with making a difference. Inspired by the imprimatur given to him by his wife and driven by his love for his ten children and grandchildren, Gerard is on a mission to address the issues he perceives within the Australian electoral system.

#55 Captain Wendy Hazelton

#55 Captain Wendy Hazelton

Wendy’s flying history is an incredible one – she flew solo across the Pacific in 1986, has instructed at her father, Jim Hazelton’s airfield, flew the world’s first turbo prop airliner in England, and chartered around Australia air safaris.

However, her goal of joining the RAAF was hosed down, because at that time, women were not allowed to join.

From country girl to horse trainer to international pilot and voluntary supporter of underprivileged Asian communities, Wendy, a mother and grandmother who now runs her own small business, has lived on the Sunshine Coast for the last 22 years.

#52 Judy Wilyman - The emperor's new clothes.

#52 Judy Wilyman - The emperor's new clothes.

The phrase "the emperor's new clothes" is often used to describe a situation in which people are afraid to criticise something because everyone else seems to think it is good or important or any fictional item that viewers have been induced into believing as real.

Judy Wilyman was a science teacher for 20 years before becoming a health educator presenting information in public seminars and conferences. She completed a Master of Science degree (Population Health) in 2007 in the School of Public Health at the University of Wollongong. She then took up a job lecturing in environmental health issues at Murdoch University before completing a PhD at the University of Wollongong in 2015 where she investigated the Australian vaccination policies.Judy has also investigated the human rights issues involved in mandating, with financial inducements (coercion), vaccines into the genetically diverse Australian population. She hopes to give a voice to the large majority of the Australian population who want choice in vaccination but who are being dismissed as 'anti-vaccination'.

#50 Mark Byrnes - Pieces of the puzzle

#50 Mark Byrnes - Pieces of the puzzle

Mark Byrnes has spent most of his life in, on or around helicopters, both maintaining and flying them. At a very young age his father was killed in a helicopter accident, but this didn't stop him from pursuing his dream of one day becoming a pilot. Years later, unbelievably, his older brother was also killed in a helicopter accident and yet Mark continued his career motivated by both accidents to make the helicopter industry safer.

Sadly the aviation industry has now taken Marks livelihood but in a completely different way.

#48 Corey Macdonald - A man of few words

#48 Corey Macdonald - A man of few words

When I first met Corey Macdonald I liked him straight away, a Surfie looking dude with long blonde hair, a happy smile and wicked sense of humour.

When he said he was thinking of learning to fly I thought he wasn't the "typical" pilot type and maybe he was just day dreaming.

How wrong was I to judge!

He did lean to fly and recently added to his aviation adventures by flying a single engine TBM 850 aeroplane from Australia to Canada.

He says he is a man of few words.

#44 Trent Lawson - Mzungu!

While in his early 20s Trent Lawson opted, through a university program, to spend a year living with a Maasai tribe in Tanzania. The Hawke Ambassador Volunteer Experience Program is an 18 unit course which includes an overseas volunteer component, as well as academic and skill-based learning outcomes. In conjunction with a specialised volunteer company, the student is required to design a volunteer experience, implement it, and then reflect on the outcomes upon their return. Leading up to their departure the student has a number of educational and practical interactions with the course coordinator. These interactions take the form of an orientation program, where the student studies the social, cultural, political and economic aspects associated with the country of their placement. In addition to this, the student is taught how to develop a robust risk management strategy. While on placement, the student has an in-country mentor provided to them by the specialised volunteer organisation. In addition to this, the student is required to liaise weekly with the course coordinator to ensure not only that the education objectives are met, but also to manage the student's progress while in-country. Upon their return, each student undertakes a debriefing session with the course coordinator. Moreover, the student is set a number of assessable pieces of work. This includes an achievement report which provides the course coordinator with a detailed summary of how the student added value to the community in which they volunteered. The second piece of work involves a reflective assignment in order to consolidate their experience and aid their career development, with reference to UniSA’s Graduate Qualities. The final piece of work is an academic essay on a development themed topic.

#40 Alma Besserdin - A dose of the truth

Alma Besserdin was born in the Former Yugoslavia where she left for the "freedom" that Australia has to offer.

She became an Australia Day Ambassador and in 2020 publicly resigned to Daniel Andrews as she felt ashamed to represent a government that is not representing its people.

She left her home country because of civil war and the loss of human rights only to experience it once again in a supposed "free nation and lucky country." She witnessed Melbourne Australia, once one of the most "liveable cities" in the world becoming oppressed and unliveable.

Alma has started a group with other like minded individuals called "Australian Frontline Health Professionals" with the hope of creating new ways as the existing systems crumble around us.

Her website is www.almabesserdin.com

Australian Frontline Health Professionals can be found on Telegram.

She has a podcast on bitchute "Peoples Voice" For a dose of the real truth!

Podcast #18 Steve Shuttleworth - The Hurt Locker

Podcast #18 Steve Shuttleworth - The Hurt Locker

Steve Shuttleworth or "Even Stephen" as his family call him, is a naturally fit person who can compete in endurance sporting events easily when most of us would struggle and yet a couple of years ago he was paralysed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system begins to attack the peripheral nervous system. Antibodies and lymphocytes attack and damage the peripheral nerves causing weakness/paralysis (motor nerves affected) and/or abnormal sensations and pain (sensory nerves affected).

It can present in many different ways making it difficult to diagnose in the early stages. First symptoms include varying degrees of weakness or tingling sensations in the legs. In many cases this spreads to the upper body and in severe cases leads to almost total paralysis. GBS can be dangerous if the muscle weakness affects the chest muscles responsible for breathing.

The symptoms can occur quite rapidly over hours to days or slowly over weeks. Most patients reach peak weakness within the first 4 weeks. It is a rare disease and the cause is not known but GBS usually follows a viral or bacterial infection.
