As the 23-24 campaign (thankfully!) comes to a close, Marvin and Anthony reflect on the return of BC, GG Jackson, and Marc Gasol's jersey retirement.

As the Grizzlies round the corner towards the conclusion of this oh so woeful season, Marvin and I point to a few key areas to watch. The Grizzlies ended a nine game skid with two exciting victories over the Houston Rockets and the Milwaukee Bucks. Shout out to Steve-o, a light hearted if heavy footed behemoth of a man who brought so much joy to we Grizzlies fans for years. Marvin and Anthony talk about the big man's importance to the team and discuss what makes this season worth it amid a continuing rash of losses.

Well, what more can we say. Ja is out for the season and it looks grim for the Grizzlies...except they beat the pants of the Mavericks last night and hope springs eternal! Despite a 'Grizzly' stretch for our Grizzly Bears, there are some things to celebrate. Desmond Bane is playing at a VERY elite level...All NBA for sure. The team might really have something in Vince Williams, Jr., and we love Jaren Jackson, Jr.'s face up game. The Grizzlies get 12 back in a mere 6 days, but how will the team adjust? The Grizzlies had a .500 week with improved play and a couple solid wins. Throughout the week, the Grizzlies have played harder with Jaylen Nowell and Vince Williams, Jr. serving as bright spots. How will the Grizz fare over the last 6 between now and when Ja returns? Anthony and Marvin break it all down and offer you a prediction. 

Well, the Grizzlies have lost four in a row and, in the latest loss, Marcus Smart read his team the riot act. Are the Grizzlies unraveling? Will Smart's 'pep talk' be helpful to the team? Are we still just counting down the days until Ja gets back? Why did this team win when so readily in the past when they were so under-manned, while now they can barely score the basketball? Playing .500 ball over their last four, the Memphis Grizzlies appear to have found some solutions. Santi Aldama has made a huge impact for this team, and Bismack Biyombo has created offensive rebounds and second chances for a team desperate for additional possessions. The Grizzlies continue their skid through a rough patch and, well, Marv and I try to keep it positive. We talk about Jacob Gilyard, how the Grizzlies will look different when Ja is back. But with the loss of Marcus Smart for maybe a while and maybe also Luke Kennard...we end up talking about Dillon Brooks and the Rockets and even a little Draymond Green. This is a tough time for Grizz fans, but hey - this too shall pass. 

Marvin and Anthony celebrate the Grizzlies' first win, and point to the single most important factor in the team's recent challenges. There are certainly some areas where the team can improve, but as fans discuss a big trade or firing a coach it's important to keep the main thing the main thing.

As fans, we can spend a lot of time on the roller coaster of wins and losses. Luckily for us as Grizzlies fans, this has not really been the case over the last few years. There has been consistent winning and exceeding expectations. But with the Grizzlies losing 9 of their last 12 games, and sinking closer to the 3 seed than the 1 seed, the roller coaster has sent us on some dips and dives. After last week's optimism Anthony suggests it may be time for some urgency among the Grizzlies. The 2012 - 2013 Memphis Grizzlies season was among the most consequential in franchise history. They traded Rudy Gay, up that point a person seen as a franchise pillar. Marc Gasol won Defensive Player of the Year. The team hit 56 wins - a record that still stands today (although it is now tied with the 2021 - 2022 season). And perhaps most importantly, the Grizzlies went deeper in the playoffs than they had before or since - reaching the Western Conference Finals.
