Anti-Visions

Anti-Visions

By Erich Wimberly

There's a collision occurring and the tectonic plates of civilization are sliding beneath our feet. One vision perceives Western civilization as a mental construct that exists for the purpose of oppression while the opposing vision clings to objective reality. This collision of visions is destabilizing civilization as we know it. We stand on the chaotic brink of the extinction of one epoch as it collides with another. Join me as I seek to bring clarity to social, racial, and cultural confusion by explaining the thought systems that underly the chaos.

Coleman Hughes on BLM

Coleman Hughes on BLM

In this episode I read an essay by Coleman Hughes called, "Stories and Data:  Reflections on Race, Riots, and Police."  In this article he addresses the basic premise of Black Lives Matter in the aftermath of George Floyd's death.  (This article is read with permission by colemanhughes.org)

About Coleman Hughes:

Coleman Hughes is a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor at City Journal, where his writing focuses on race, public policy, and applied ethics. Coleman’s writing has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, National Review, Quillette, The City Journal and The Spectator. He has appeared on many podcasts, including The Rubin Report, Making Sense with Sam Harris, and The Glenn Show.

In June 2019, he testified before the U.S. Congress. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, Coleman briefly attended the Juilliard School to study jazz trombone before dropping out to pursue a career as an independent jazz/hip-hop artist. Shortly thereafter, Coleman discovered a passion for applied ethics and public policy at Columbia University, where he graduated with a B.A. in philosophy.   (colemanhughes.org)

Fact or Fiction 10: The Real History of Slavery (ep.20)

Fact or Fiction 10: The Real History of Slavery (ep.20)

Many who have dismissed the anti-slavery words of the founders of the American republic as just rhetoric have not bothered to check the facts of history. Washington, Jefferson, and other founders did not just talk. They acted.

Even when they acted within the political and legal constraints of their times, they acted repeatedly, sometimes winning and sometimes losing. One of the early battles that was lost was Jefferson’s first draft of the Declaration of Independence, which criticized King George III for having enslaved Africans and for over-riding colonial Virginia’s attempt to ban slavery. The Continental Congress removed that phrase under pressure from representatives from the South. When Jefferson drafted a state constitution for Virginia in 1776, his draft included a clause prohibiting any more importation of slaves and, in 1783, Jefferson included in a new draft of a Virginia constitution a proposal for gradual emancipation of slaves. He was defeated in both these efforts. On the national scene, Jefferson returned to the battle once again in 1784, proposing a law declaring slavery illegal in all western territories of the country as it existed at that time. Such a ban would have kept slavery out of Alabama and Mississippi. The bill lost by one vote, that of a legislator too sick to come and vote. Afterwards, Jefferson said that the fate “of millions unborn” was “hanging on the tongue of one man, and heaven was silent in that awful moment. (

Fact or Fiction 7: The Real History of Slavery (ep.16)

Today's postcolonial rhetoric fuels deep resentment and extreme criticism of the British Empire's impact on Western Civilization.  The hybrid offspring of Postmodernism and Critical Theory's ideology has so deeply infected the West that it has metastasized into a terminal disease from which no major organ has escaped.  Make no mistake, the death of Western Civilization is the goal and all "critical social justice" endeavors are the "necessary" means to this end.

Remarkably, though, despite all of it's flaws (along with every other society known to man), the British Empire is the only Power in the world that ever confronted slavery, and not only put an end to it but fought it to the furthest corners of the earth.  Power in itself is not evil. especially when those who wield it choose justice.  If justice is desired, then someone has to have the power to effect it.  Thankfully, the British Empire had a change of heart in the midst of the Atlantic Slave Trade, and in the zenith of its power it chose justice and used the full weight of its force and wealth by taking bold action throughout the world.

Don't miss this politically incorrect episode!  Despite the fact that it stands counter to the prevailing vision of the day, it stands with the force of truth in the face of fiction.  You could say that it is an "anti-vision."

Critical Race Theory Crash Course

Critical Race Theory Crash Course

This episode picks out 10 points from Critical Race Theory.  I quickly run through them without commentary and then come back and cover most of them with some commentary.

Friday, September 4th, POTUS put out a letter banning Critical Race Theory in federal training of employees.  This made some waves by issuing a ban on all federal training that involves Critical Race Theory.  That covers almost every sector of our government as this theory is so entrenched in our system now.  No longer will the government allow tax dollars to be spent on training that undermines the very existence of our nation.  Of course, there is an uproar and there will be major backlash because as the hard left would say, this is just another example of fascism, white supremacy, and abuse of power at work.  It’s cancelling free speech they say.  Well, no one is saying that there isn’t freedom to publish and talk about CRT.  We don’t allow Sharia law or the Bible to be used as the basis to train our federal employees, and yet there is absolute freedom for Americans to practice and openly speak about their religions nonetheless. The contention of the letter is that CRT is not only divisive and not only does it undermine the core values of our nation, but that it discriminates against and demeans certain individuals while promoting inequality.

If you'd like to know more about the letter from POTUS
check out this post on the AntiVisions blog.

Topics covered in the podcast:

  • Racism is the "ordinary" state of affairs in society and its interactions.
  • Systemic Racism.
  • “White Privilege.”
  • "Interest convergence"
  • Racism is "permanent.”
  • All whites are racist and all whites are white supremacists.
  • Whiteness as Property.

Thomas Sowell bio:

Thomas Sowell is the Rose and Milton Friedman Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution.

He writes on economics, history, social policy, ethnicity, and the history of ideas. His book, Discrimination and Disparities (2018), gathers a wide array of empirical evidence to challenge the idea that different economic outcomes can be explained by any one factor, be it discrimination, exploitation or genetics. His books on economics include Housing Boom and Bust (2009), Intellectuals and Society (2009), Applied Economics (2009), Economic Facts and Fallacies (2008), Basic Economics (2007), and Affirmative Action Around the World (2004). Other books on economics he has written include Classical Economics Reconsidered (1974), Say’s Law (1972), and Economics: Analysis and Issues (1971). On social policy, he has written Knowledge and Decisions (1980), Preferential Policies (1989), Inside American Education (1993), The Vision of the Anointed (1995), Barbarians Inside the Gates (1999), and The Quest for Cosmic Justice (1999). On the history of ideas he has written Marxism (1985) and Conflict of Vision (1987). Sowell also wrote Late-Talking Children (1997). He has also written a monograph on law titled Judicial Activism Reconsidered, published by the Hoover Institution Press in 1989. His writings have also appeared in scholarly journals in economics, law, and other fields.

Sowell’s current research focuses on cultural history in a world perspective, a subject on which he began to write a trilogy in 1982. The trilogy includes Race and Culture (1994), Migrations and Cultures (1996), and Conquests and Cultures (1998).

Sowell's journalistic writings include a nationally syndicated column that appears in more than 150 newspapers from Boston to Honolulu. Some of these essays have been collected in book form, most recently in Ever Wonder Why? and Other Controversial Essays published by the Hoover Institution Press in 2006.

Over the past three decades, Sowell has taught economics at various colleges and universities, including Cornell, Amherst, and the University of California at Los Angeles, as well as the history of ideas at Brandeis University. He has also been associated with three other research centers, in addition to the Hoover Institution. He was project director at the Urban Institute, 1972-1974, a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University, 1976–77, and was an adjunct scholar of the American Enterprise Institute, 1975-76.

Sowell was awarded the National Humanities Medal in 2002. In 2003, Sowell received the Bradley Prize for intellectual achievement. Sowell received his bachelor’s degree in economics (magna cum laude) from Harvard in 1958, his master’s degree in economics from Columbia University in 1959, and his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1968.
