Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Silent Epidemic

Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Silent Epidemic

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the muscles and tissues that support the pelvic organs weaken or become damaged. This can result in one or more pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum, descending or bulging into the vaginal canal. It's a condition that affects many women, and it's essential to know that you're not alone.

Here at our practice, we understand that pelvic prolapse can have a profound impact on your quality of life. That's why I want to share some key insights and recommendations to help you navigate this condition. We will also hear from Sherrie Palm, the Founder/CEO of APOPS, Association for Pelvic Organ Prolapse Support. Sher’s recently released fourth book about pelvic organ prolapse, THE BIGGEST SECRET IN WOMEN’S HEALTH: Stigma, Indifference, Outrage, and Optimism, follows her prior award-winning book Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Silent Epidemic. Sher is a pelvic organ prolapse patient advocate, vaginal and intimate health activist, internationally recognized speaker, POP key opinion leader, and prolific writer regarding POP physical, emotional, social, sexual, fitness, and employment quality of life impacts.

Recognizing a need to shift the global view of the remaining stigmatized aspects of women’s health, Sher takes steps to pioneer change. Her engagement in the evolution of POP awareness enable patient voice to be an integral aspect of the advancement of women’s health and wellness protocol.

Understanding Tailbone Pain During Pregnancy and Postpartum

If you're expecting a baby or had one recently, you must have come to know what a roller coaster ride it is. Full of emotions, excitement, fear, and unfortunately, pain! Pregnancy is the time when a woman surrenders her entire body for the beautiful purpose of bringing a new life into the world. Pregnancy doesn't only cost your physical health but also your mental wellbeing. This is because your body goes through various changes, which are sometimes very uncomfortable.

Many of these discomforts may persist after your pregnancy as well. One such is coccyx pain. In simpler words, it is the pain you feel in your tailbone. I had significant tailbone pain which lasted a good 7 weeks after giving birth to my son Teddy. The pain I experienced was significant at times making sitting unbearable. I was only able to get comfortable laying on my side, So, if your tailbone has become a real pain in the butt, keep listening!

Postpartum is FOREVER

Postpartum is FOREVER

🌸 Postpartum is Forever is meant to make you stop and think twice. Most women don’t really consider what is happening with their pelvic health until there is a problem. Preventative care is more important than ever so why not address the issue before it becomes one? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👋🏻 I am Dr. Papa, better known to my patients as Dr. Jess. I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy, specializing in helping women to restore their pelvic health so that they can get back to enjoying all the things an active, healthy woman should. Exercising, laughing with friends and family without fear of leaking, and yes, even enjoying sex again without having pain or fear of doing damage. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤰🏻 It is my hope that I will reach an even larger audience through the content of this book. I believe all women deserve the best care, from themselves, from their family and friends, and of course, from their doctors. My 🎙 podcast, Stay Healthy New England, and my 💻 e-course, Conquer Mystery Pain, aim to encourage those with chronic pain or who are plain curious about their health to educate themselves through multiple avenues. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌸 Womanhood is a sisterhood and I invite each and every one of my readers to use what I have learned over the course of my career as a resource to better your lives. I understand that pelvic health is a very personal subject, and some people may not feel comfortable talking about it right away. That’s exactly why I’ve created this book, to get the conversation started! 🗣
