Episode 63 - Crossbows Facing Firearms Type Legislation - The Government Call For Evidence & The Open Shoot At Paget
After a 2 and a half month pause, I'm back with Episode 63 in which I look at the NFAS open shoot which we held at Paget De Vesey on February 18th. We were blessed with a break in the recent awful weather and had reasonable temperatures for the time of year and even saw some sunshine.
On a more serious note, the government has released a call for evidence on the sale, purchase and posession of crossbows in the UK, with the possibility of firearms type regulations for them and the prohibition of the sale and posession of broadheads.

Episode 59 - Chinese Equipment, Rule Changes And The Apparent Increasing Division Amongst Archers Of Different Styles With Davie Gee, EFAA Digital Media Officer
Welcome back. In this episode I'm joined by EFAA Digital Media Officer, Davie Gee and we discuss the upside of the increase Chinese equipment that we see more and more within archery, the proposed approval of the Trophy Righe React Digital with NFAS and EFAA. We also talk about the increasing friction that is becoming visible between archers of different shooting classes across social media.
Episode 58 - Switching Out My Practice Regime With Coach Angel Garcia
Welcome to Episode 58. This is a somewhat impromptu episode recorded at just a couple of hours notice. I'd recently decided to stop shooting just for score in rounds in the woods and I've switched to shooting 2 arrows per target, looking more at group size than score. I had become concerned that only shooting for score was leading to the dreaded target panic because I was only concerned about where the arrow landed and I was becoming less and less present in my shot. I wanted to run this theory by Angel to see if there was any logic in what I was doing.
Episode 57 - Down The Arrow Rabbit Hole With Coach Angel Garcia Of High Power Archery NY
Welcome to Episode 57 where I'm joined by coach Angel Garcia of High Power Archery in New York. Angel wanted to delve into my arrow making decisions and share his wisdom from over 40 years of shooting archery following on from episode 56 and we decided to change things up and record a video podcast (the video element is available on YouTube). We discuss the arrow beef that seems to have broken out again online, my choice of arrow and Angel gives me sage advice on the possible perils of my proposed method of first bend indexing. We have plenty of laughs and enjoy a cigar during our conversation.

Episode 56 - One Arrow To Rule Them All
Welcome to Episode 56. In this episode I'm back down the arrow rabbit hole looking for an all round arrow to shoot with both NFAS and EFAA. I've shot .166, .204, .245 and .359 and each has its pros and cons. I need something that will shoot out to 80+ yards without being too badly affected by wind drift, but also something that is fat enough to catch lines when shooting spots. I'm also looking for a forgiving arrow that can hopefully mitigate my bad shots (there are way too many of those ;-) ). Looking on the better known, more respected YouTube channels led me to Nock On, Exodus Outdoor Gear and a lesser known channel Mat From Texas, who, along with John Stallone and Exodus Outdoor Gear have convinced me to add first bend indexing to my arrow building process. Nock On Archery has a really fascinating podcast with Dr. James Park who received his doctorate in arrow flight. Links to the videos referenced are below ;

Episode 55 - Breaking Things, Lawton Field Bowmen & Liberty Archers Weekend
Welcome to Episode 55. We're in a cold, wet July but I've been out and about at a couple of shoots working on switching off from the pressure of scoring and just concentrating on improving my distance judging and making good shots away from my home club. I managed to shoot the fibre optic out of my new Bowfinger scope but thanks to Anthony of The Off Center Archers pointing me in the right direction I have new fibre with me from the States.

Episode 54 - Catching Up, A New Scope & Arrow Musings
Welcome to episode 54. After the carnage that was episode 53, this episode sees things a lot calmer. I catch up on what I've been up to in the gym, look back at my trip to the EFAA Bowhunter Championships, get a new scope for the Axcel Accutouch and discuss whether or not to go back to the Gold Tippy Goodness to find one arrow to fit all of my needs.
Episode 53 - The Saturday Spectacular (Raw & Uncut)
Welcome to Episode 53 of the Archery Geek Outdoors podcast. Despite what I say in the introduction it is definitely episode 53. This episode was recorded on the Saturday night of the campout and I'm joined by Big Jake, his brother Cody, Posh James, the delightful Nurse Kirsty, Alex the Boss, Sniper Mark, Ian and Crazy Kaz. There were copious amounts of alcohol involved so this is almost 4 hours of unbridled chaos including dark humour, innuendo, tasteless jokes and the occasional reference to archery, all peppered with an excessive amount of foul language and merciless personal insults with some of the most genuine people it is my pleasure to call friends. Apart from some volume normalization and compression this has been uploaded as it was recorded, raw and uncut, so be prepared because this is definitely not safe for work or for listening to around delicate ears.

Episode 51 - Shooting With A Lens With Angel Garcia
Welcome to Episode 51 where I am joined by Coach Angel Garcia of the High Power Archery Podcast. After listening to my last episode where I talked about starting to shoot with a lens in my scope and the differences it created in my shot, Angel joins me to talk through the pros and cons of using a lens and the adjustments that I may need to make.
Episode 50 - Discipline Equals Freedom & Fatty Wants A Six Pack
Welcome back and I've finally made it to the half century. My 50th episode. In this episode I discuss some big changes that I've implemented since Boxing Day, both in my shooting and my weight loss and fitness journey. The catalyst for this change was an offer from Anthony at The Off Center Archers following my Christmas Eve rant. Listen in to find out what I've changed and I'm really pleased to say that I'm currently 2 weeks cigarette free.
Episode 49 - Special Guest Ryan Clark Of The African Allure Hunting Safaris
Welcome back, In this, the final episode of 2022, I'm joined by special guest Ryan Clark of the African Allure Hunting Safaris in the longest episode yet at just over 3 hours and 20 minutes. Ryan is a guide and professional hunter and owner of The African Allure Hunting Safaris with almost 30 years experience and specializes in bow hunting, although he also rifle hunts, wing shoots and fishes. We talk about everything from his background in hunting and guiding, equipment choices, shooting tips, dealing with anti hunters, taxidermy, hunting as a novice and his recent experience guiding in the USA. I must apologise for the abrupt ending but with Ryan being in rural South Africa, he lost internet connectivity. We will hopefully have a second episode together in the not too distant future.

Episode 48 - The Return Of Angel Garcia & Highpower Archery
In this episode I'm joined again by Coach Angel Garcia of Highpower Archery. Angel has been through a really rough time battling cancer and after he listened to my drunken escapades in episode 47 he decided that he wanted to address dome of the topics that I covered in an environment where he could really let loose, so we have 2 and a half hours of us shooting the breeze and putting the world to rights covering topics from his ongoing fight with cancer the state of the archery industry through the loss of competitive spirit and participation trophies, fortitude, resilience, the Necronomicon Sagittarius and what comes next, We hope you enjoy this episode because we had a riot recording it.
Episode 47- Updates, A New Release Technique And A Change Of Mindset
In this episode I return after and unintended hiatus with a change of mindset, some updates and a new release technique. It was recorded while indulging in copious amounts of late night Christmas Eve alcohol, therefore this episode is definitely NSFW and expresses some views likely to trigger Betas and those lacking a spine.

Pure fluke led me to a perfectly tuned 500gr hunting arrow that does around 290fps and I mull over which range finder to buy ready for the EFAA 3D championships.

Episode 31 - Admitting You're Not One Of The Cool Kids
Welcome back to the podcast and Episode 31. In this episode I have to face the fact that I'm not one of the cool kids and that I'm simply not consistent enough with a handheld release so I'm back to the old wrist rocket. I have some new budget arrow shafts on the way for shooting 3D and I have a new, very not budget friendly arrow rest on the Kuma. I discover the lengths that Ryan at The Archers Nest goes to in order to supply wooden arrow shooters with the most consistent shafts that he can.

Episode 27 - Tough Times, The Loss Of A Friend & Paper Tuning Commences
It's been 3 weeks since my last episode and the UK's third national lockdown has started to have a negative effect on me. This hasn't been made any easier by the loss of a friend and clubmate to Covid. I discuss my struggle with staying focused on my goals but relief was offered by finally getting my paper tuner put together and starting work on my hunting arrows. Bareshaft tuning through paper has got me both excited and nervous but shooting bareshafts through paper is something that I'm going to continue to do as a training aid.
Episode 26 -My First Guest, Simon Thomas - A Mammoth Recording
In this episode I'm joined by my very first guest, friend and fellow archer Simon Thomas. Simon shoots a variety of classes in NFAS, all non-sighted and he enjoys diving down the arrow rabbit hole possibly even more than I do. This is a long episode at over 2 and a half hours. I was planning to release this as 2 episodes but there were no natural break points so you get it in its entirety. You can find Simon on social media at instagram.com/ramblingarcher/ Unfortunately I've had to upload this episode at 128K instead of my usual 320K because Anchor can't handle the file size at 320K.
Episode 25 - Starting The New Year The Right Way
Well, I've made it to the quarter century! I hope you've all had a good Christmas and New Year. I had 2 weeks off work R&R and indulged in the pig and fish diet so I'm dreading getting on the scales. I'm back exercising now and eating clean again. The majority of the components have now arrived to start working on the Texas hunting arrow build so I go through the process I'll be using to build my perfect hunting arrow. The Kuma has been back in the country since December 27th but it's still sat waiting to clear customs in Coventry.
Episode 24 - The Tipsy Christmas Cast
This is just a short episode to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year and to say thank you for your support. Episode 19 - Down The Rabbit Hole Of Choosing Hunting Arrows For Texas & To Coach Or Not To Coach?
In this episode I go through my thought process for deciding on a hunting arrow to take to Texas with me next year. The specifications I'm hoping to achieve and the thought process that's helping me to decide which arrow and broadhead combination to go with. I'm also giving very serious thought to undertaking the NFAS coaching course.
Episode 18 - The Club Championship & Starting To Plan For The Trip To Texas
In this episode I discuss my performance in my scoring rounds of the club championship at Paget and how Covid-19 has affected how we shoot the competition and I also delve into my initial thoughts on planning my trip to Texas with one of my listeners to bowhunt hogs next year.

In this episode, I look back at the weekend meet up held by The British International Bowhunters in Norfolk and try a breakfast recommended to me by Simon Thomas https://www.instagram.com/ramblingarcher/ I seem to use the word amazing a stupid amount of times in this episode so the weekend was obviously amazing.
