James has an extensive playing career as he is a former Portage Terrier, Muskegon Lumberjack, Brooks Bandit and current NCAA D1 RPI Engineer. James speaks on his junior career where he began as a 16 year old with the Winnipeg Blues where he was traded to the Portage Terriers and had career had a break through, tallying 53 point seasons with the Terriers. Following his time in the MJHL, Jimmy took a chance and went down south to join the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. Following his time in the USHL and the AJHL,  he finished his junior career with the Brooks Bandits', Jimmy accepted an offer to play his dream of NCAA D1 hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
