After rescuing a man being assaulted on the street, Arsene Lupin is invited into the home of the Imberts and offered a position as a way of thanks. But the gentleman-burglar is soon told in confidence about the safe that contains thousands in bank notes, and sets a plan to make them his. But Lupin is not the only one who has been planning this crime for awhile, perhaps finally meeting his match.

Arsene Lupin has been arrested in New York City by Detective Justin Ganimard, and is now in The Prison de la Sante. So how is it possible that he plans to steal priceless paintings and artifacts from Baron Cahorn? When the rich old man receives a letter from the incarcerated gentleman-burglar, he sees it as much more of a real threat then anyone else. Is it a joke, or is Lupin somehow going to pull off the heist from behind bars?
