Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/soulacybin

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/soulacybin/?hl=en It's been a long 21 months, folks. We're back, baybeeeee! Artsy AF returns with a low-production behemoth of an episode. (You guys ever heard of an iPhone 7S??) I couldn't think of a better guest than my best friend of 27 years, @soulacybin (John LaBoone) to help kick off version 3.0 with me! It was nice to get a little silly throughout this episode, while touching on some very sincere changes that we've both experienced in the last few years. Mental health, the Barbie movie and of course creativity were just a few of the topics we touch on in this one. John's new single 'Nuh Ready' is out on Spotify, Bandcamp and SoundCloud. Go check it out and catch him at AREA 15 in Las Vegas on September 30th. Thanks to everyone who nudged me back into this venture, it's a service that I'm happy to offer again. Expect about one episode per month to start with, hopefully ramping up as I integrate it back into the flow. Love y'all, enjoy. I've had a weird ride mentally and emotionally since the Marshall fire at the end of 2021 (my house burned down). For whatever reason, (probably cause my house burned down) that event left me with a darker outlook on life for a bit, correlating with me being more closed off, selfish and cynical than ever before. After a while living like that, you realize that it's not helping you or anyone else. So I had to make some big lifestyle changes; cutting out nearly all my vices, exercising, waking up earlier than ever, journaling and loosening the reins from the tyrant in my mind... all these changes took some time, didn't happen linearly and I had many setbacks and false starts. The result, though, is that a small bloom is appearing on the withered vines of Artsy AF. I'm hoping to sustain this into a blossom and eventually into a full blown edible flower for my fellow creators out there to enjoy on a weekly basis again.

Episode 78- Irene Lopez Leon and Uri Martinez

Episode 78- Irene Lopez Leon and Uri Martinez

Greetings, friends! Welcome to another episode of Artsy AF, thanks for being here!

In this episode of the podcast I connect with Uri Martinez (@uriginalbcn) and Irene Lopez Leon
( @irenelopezleon ) all the way from Spain! Irene and Uri are both painters living in Barcelona. We chat about several topics including whether paintings are helping the world, what it's like being a weird kid, the difference between an artist and a painter, where ideas come from and a few more topics. They have a duo show up at Ryan Joseph Gallery in Denver for the next month, which I highly suggest checking out if you're in the area. Note* Please be patient as Uri and Irene are not native English speakers so there are a few moments of 'dead air' as they gather their thoughts and translate to English.

SHOUTS to John Endicott-a recent Patreon subscriber- who's Instagram handle I didn't get last week. You can find him on there at @caughtinal00p , go connect with your Artsy AF homies! If you're interested in becoming a subscriber, this week would be a special gift to me as it's my birthday on Thursday. *wink wink* https://www.patreon.com/artsyafpodcast

Randal Roberts (@randalrobertsart) makes a return appearance on the show! We talk conspiracy theories, art being central to shaping the world, what makes him tick, some stories and looking at life in the number of days- rather than the number of years- you have left. I found this a very helpful re-framing of existence that inevitably leads to an increase in cherishing time and energy. Insights and humor abound in this episode and I hope you enjoy it!

Episode 71- Jen Ingram

Episode 71- Jen Ingram

This week features Jen Ingram! ( @ancientdigital // @tribe13gallery ) is a curator, festival art co-ordinator, art history student and co-founder of Tribe 13 Gallery with Roman Villagrana- an OG artist in the live painting and visionary art community. You can find Roman's work @synchromystic on instagram. We talk about the genesis of Tribe 13, some of Jen's most memorable festival moments, the importance of clear communication and what she looks for in applicants to participate in the gallery- among several other topics. We touch a small bit on NFTs- the important thing here is to check out hicetnunc.xyz and kalamint.io for platforms minting NFTs on the Tezos blockchain, which uses proof of stake to verify transactions. Proof of stake uses a fraction of the energy that proof of work does, more or less solving for the problem of NFT energy consumption.

Last week I didn't have the instagram handle of Austin Weber, one of the first subscribers to the Patreon. You can find his acrylic paintings @notsosmooth on instagram! Big shouts to you sir!!

and Austin Weber! (Austin, send me your social media handle and I'll add it in next week's description)
Thank you all for your support! If you haven't, please go check out the Patreon page HERE.
This week I welcome back painting legend NFN Kalyan to the show. Last time we spoke, NFTs were a brand new thing- I was just learning about them, Kalyan was all in and the world was largely unaware of their existence. We wanted to record this episode as sort of a time capsule on how quickly things have changed since then and offer some new perspectives on the phenomenon. We also get in to information overload and how susceptible all humans are to propaganda, and some possible ways cryptocurrencies may facilitate more free and financially stable humans. This was a fun episode and I'm happy to have Kalyan back as the quickest return guest on the podcast!

Episode 67- POST WOOK (Natasha Chomko) on Routine, Setting Boundaries, and How She Got Her Name

Episode 67- POST WOOK (Natasha Chomko) on Routine, Setting Boundaries, and How She Got Her Name

Natasha Chomko goes by the brilliant name POST WOOK (@postwook) and her art is just as amazing. She’s a digital collage artist who’s work is inspired by nature and color. We talk a lot about her routine; setting boundaries with how much and when to engage with social media while also being super consistent with posting on Instagram; coming up in the festival scene; why she chose the name POST WOOK; and her former life as a political operative.  I'd like to thank everyone again who has been rating, reviewing, subscribing and giving Artsy AF some shouts out there in the digital world. It really helps get the word out and get people interested!

Also, last week's episode with Ally Grimm that we minted as an NFT is still available on OpenSea! The unique thing about this NFT is that it is the first podcast where an NFT is created on screen. Ally remixed the logo while we talked and the animated version is the main file in the NFT. The full audio/video episode is the unlockable content. Episode 66- A.L. Grime and Artsy AF mint an NFT

Episode 66- A.L. Grime and Artsy AF mint an NFT

Welcome, my dear, creative friends: To the very first Artsy AF NFT episode and one of the first podcasts to be minted on the blockchain!  In this episode Ally Grimm and I talk about artistic styles; free will; the clubhouse app; and some of the broader social implications emergent in the NFT space. Ally also shares her process and remixes the Artsy AF logo on-screen during our conversation. To see or purchase the NFT click HERE! Unlockable content includes the full podcast Zoom video and the .mp4 animation of the Artsy AF logo, remixed by Ally.

Very excited to have my first NFT be a collaboration via the podcast. This is the type of thing that I think is really cool about crypto art. Aside from the fact that artists are making some real money, there is less room for rent seeking middle-men, and the far out implications of things like DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations) the meta narrative of minting our conversations about the time and space we live in is just super intriguing to me. Like a time capsule with actual human interaction contained within it!

Anyway, we've set the price very reasonably, so if you're in the mood to collect a novel piece of creation you can check it out. Otherwise, I think this episode stands on it's own regardless of whether it's an NFT or not. Big BIG shouts to Ally and to all of you for believing in this project. Much love and respect. Thanks for being here!

My guest this week is Justin Aversano. Justin (@justinaversano) is the co-founder of Save Art Space (@saveartspace) , a non-profit that buys billboard space and replaces images used for advertising with public art from local artists.
