After the Breakup...and Other stuff

After the Breakup...and Other stuff

This started off as raw footage on a long drive, hence the road noise.

Sometimes, we find ourselves paralyzed after a breakup. What did we do wrong? What do we do next?

Moving on is easier said than done, but necessary. Reinvent yourself and realize that the season is over. At the end of that season, you should find yourself better prepared for the next one. It's like a farm that yielded a good crop. Now, it is time to plant something else. The soil is ready for it. If you try to plan the same crop, it will not flourish. That is your job, post breakup; FLOURISH!

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): A Student's View of Interpersonal Relationships in Education (III) By A. S. Cobb

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): A Student's View of Interpersonal Relationships in Education (III) By A. S. Cobb

This series is great for newer educators as well as for more seasoned educators. Sometimes we plan rigidly, our lessons but let's not forget WHO we are teaching and the bevy of issues they bring  with them.

It has never been more important to include Social and Emotional Learning into our curriculum planning and delivery. When you make an effort to go just a little beyond the surface, the results are inspiring when you see what and how it propels your students to achieve.

It is an organic look into what happens when educators build strong interpersonal relationships with students, families, other educators and community members.

Anthony Abarca is a recent high school graduate, current college freshman, entrepreneur and former student of mine. He stops by to talk about his experiences as a student in high school and the importance and effects of building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships between students, faculty and community members.

(Social & Emotional Learning) Soundtrack of a Student's Life: Music Inspires

(Social & Emotional Learning) Soundtrack of a Student's Life: Music Inspires

This is another one from the vault. I spoke at my commencement at Chabot (Shuh-bo) College in 2007. It speaks to students' level of commitment and how music can help.

Students and educators alike can take something from this podcast. I use a lot of music in my classes to meditate, transition, signal changes in activities, inspire, engage and much more. When we talk about teaching the total child, little things like music can reach him/her in ways and places of their psyche that mere curriculum cannot.

Social & Emotional Learning: Inspiration as a catalyst to love, learning and transformation

Social & Emotional Learning: Inspiration as a catalyst to love, learning and transformation

Inspiring

This episode is from a speech I did in 2017.

I think the main takeaways are:

1. Your magic phrase. I talk about my magic phrase and how it has helped me navigate like, interpersonal relationships and my impact as an educator.

2. Inspiration. As human beings, we are designed to respond to inspiring words and deeds. as an educator, being able to inspire is a quality that can and will transform your students and their learning environment.

Social Emotional Learning:

This series is great for everybody, including newer educators as well as for more seasoned educators. Sometimes we plan rigidly, our lessons but let's not forget WHO we are teaching and the bevy of issues they bring  with them.

Procrastination. It Ain't Good by A. S. Cobb

Procrastination. It Ain't Good by A. S. Cobb

Procrastination is like a magnet. If you procrastinate, then you are opening yourself up to a perpetual cycle of negativity. For whatever reason you procrastinate, STOP IT and stop it NOW. You often talk about the changes you are going to make in your life and how you want to be a better person. Remember to work on the total person and handle your procrastination issues.

Relationship Non-Negotiables: Make Them Known!

Relationship Non-Negotiables: Make Them Known!

When it comes to cultivating and maintaining a relationship of intimate, personal, or professional connections, it is important to communicate what you absolutely cannot tolerate. Do you hate dishes in the sink? Say so early on before it snowballs out of control. You can avoid a lot of confusion and animosity by communicating your non-negotiables. You may find a stronger bond with the other person. You may also come to the realization that you are unequally yoked.
