Bringing the Bards Home Special #ScotsinUS
Join us for the #ScotsInUS Podcast as The American-Scottish Foundation® hosts American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland for a conversation on the important Scottish manuscripts which the National Library of Scotland, together with the National Trust for Scotland and the Abbotsford Trust, intend to acquire for the nation. Joined by the National Library of Scotland and The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA among other special guests. A highlight of the incredible history of Honresfield Library Collection and its manuscripts that risk falling into private hands, rather than remaining available for the nation. The fact that the Honresfield Library has not been seen for almost a hundred years suggests that its contents are unimportant. This could not be further from the truth – for this is an unrivaled collection of original works by the country’s literary giants. But the manuscripts of Austen, Burns, the Brontës, and Scott are at risk of being sold into private hands and rendered inaccessible to the public once more. The National Library of Scotland, as a member of a nationwide consortium, proposes an alternative scenario, in which the works of Scotland’s most celebrated writers are saved for the nation. The American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland is spearheading the campaign in North America and is calling on all those with a love and passion for Scotland, its culture, and heritage to pledge their support. To make a tax deductible donation through the American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland, visit www.americanpatrons.org. Featuring: Amina Shah – National Librarian and Chief Executive of the National Library of Scotland Peter Drummond-Hay – Chair of the American Patrons of the National Library and Galleries of Scotland Dr Ralph McLean – Manuscripts Curator (Long 18th Century Collections) at the National Library of Scotland Geordie Greig – Editor of the Daily Mail and Chair of the Friends of the National Libraries Camilla G Hellman, MBE - President of the American Scottish Foundation Kenneth Donnelly - President, Burns Society of New York and Chair, American Scottish Foundation Sophie Craig, Scottish Singer Giles Ingram - Chief Executive at Abbotsford, The Home of Sir Walter Scott Tuesday
