The purpose of smart port systems is to monitor the operations of the ports and analyze all the information received to detect problems and optimize the use of resources. But these systems are complex, with dozens of nodes working in unison and sharing large amounts of information. Due to this complexity, it is necessary to provide tools to easily find errors in the predefined information flows and identify the nodes or processes that produce bottlenecks.

AIDOaRt is a 3 years long H2020-ECSEL European project involving 31 organizations, grouped in clusters from 7 different countries, focusing on AI-augmented automation supporting modeling, coding, testing, monitoring, and continuous development in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) such as those we find in smart port platforms.

In this talk, we present how we apply the AsyncAPI Toolkit (https://github.com/SOM-Research/asyncapi-toolkit) in the development of smart port platforms in the context of the AIDOaRt project. The AsyncAPI Toolkit is a tool to formalize and (semi)automate the design and implementation of APIs for message-driven architectures, ensuring its data integrity in terms of syntax correctness. In the smart port platforms scenario, we use the modeling capabilities of the AsyncAPI Toolkit to define the smart ports platform architecture (including components, messages, and topics), to generate more than 9,000 lines of API code. Additionally, quality of service agreement has been defined as a set of service-level objectives. This is possible thanks to an extension of the AsyncAPI specification aimed to define the quality of service (QoS) for asynchronous messaging, which tailors the ISO/IEC 25010 quality model and the key concepts of WS-Agreement. We will show how this extension can be exploited to automatically ensure that the QoS of the smart ports platform goals are met.
