Wellness Through Ayurveda by Athreya Herbs

By Athreya Herbs

Ayurveda views every person as distinct and identifies the unique mind-body makeup. It has this remarkable individualistic approach that is rooted in the idea that each of us is born with a totally personal blueprint for optimum health. The constitution of an individual defines who you are from the time you are born. No two constitutions are exactly alike; therefore, no two individuals will have exactly identical expressions of ideal health.

Importance of Sleep

In this podcast, Tiffany (Ayurvedic practitioner) and Vaidya. Jay Parla discuss one of an integral part of our daily routine, sleep. Just as food nourishes the body, sleep tends to nourish our mind, it rejuvenates and makes the entire body systems to reset after a tiring day. From an Ayurvedic point of view, a "deep sleep" is a healthy disconnect of the mind from the body, avoiding any sensation in that period. Lack of it can cause mind-body misalignment and affect our performance and everyday function.

Agni & Autonomic Nervous System (Part 2)

The second section of this podcast is about how the nervous system, which is not under our control,

is essential from both scientific and Ayurvedic points of view to heal ourselves and lead a healthier life.

The core principle of Ayurveda is you haven't found the root cause yet; you're dealing with the symptom, the craving is a symptom, and the root cause is buried somewhere hidden inside the nervous system.

Rejuvenation during Menopause

Menopause is the time that marks the end of one's menstrual cycles. Every woman goes through this natural biological process. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian practice of medicine, has some wonderful solutions to alleviate the distress felt by women entering this stage of their lives.

7 Dhatus(Bodily Tissues)

7 Dhatus(Bodily Tissues)

Ayurveda identifies seven primary Dhatus responsible for the functioning of the organs and bringing the body into its physical form. These are the seven bodily tissues that keep you fit and moving, and govern your overall well-being.

To maintain optimal health and wellbeing, it is essential to bring nourishment to all seven Dhatus. Once the food is digested, the nutrient-rich juice from the digested food, known as Ahara Rasa, travels through each of these seven Dhatus. However, as Ahara Rasa moves along the seven Dhatus, it gets challenging to nourish each successive Dhatu.

Today, we will learn about the Rasa Dhatu, which is the first Dhatu. But before we do that, let's discuss the seven primary Dhatus and the secondary Dhatus to understand why they are important and how each Dhatu affects you.

Mental and Physical Well-being during Menopause

Mental and Physical Well-being during Menopause

Welcome back to Athreya Ayurveda, where it's all about Ayurvedic health and learning!

Today, we’ll discuss the physical and mental changes a woman goes through because of menopause in the light of Ayurvedic principles. Perhaps you already know that menopause marks the end of a woman’s periods, as the production of hormones estrogen and progesterone halts in the ovaries. It’s a natural process that usually happens after the age of 45.

Menopause can be the beginning of a period of grace and wisdom if you are prepared for the physical and mental changes it brings. To ensure a smooth and pleasant transition, you must understand that you may start experiencing the changes several years before your last period. Irregular menstrual cycles, trouble sleeping, mood swings, vaginal distress, night sweats, difficulty concentrating, and hair fall are the top signs of the inevitable transition. Needless to say, they can interfere with the quality of life.

Hence, the best way to go about this is by preparing yourself for managing the physical and mental changes related to menopause.

This is where Ayurveda and its teachings come in! Ayurveda provides mental, physical, and spiritual support during the monthly cycles.

Let’s discuss how!

Concepts of Agni Part - 2

Concepts of Agni Part - 2

Hello and welcome listeners of Athreya Herb’s podcast on Ayurveda.

We have Vaidya Jay again with us to talk about Agni (Digestive Fire).

In Sanskrit, ama means toxin or undigested metabolic waste. It is an umbrella term for all sticky, slimy, aggravating, and toxic substances accumulated in the body. When our body’s metabolic efficiency is compromised, we create AMA. Its elimination is of the utmost importance. The stubborn nature of the AMA causes it to stick to the gastrointestinal tract, clogging arteries, seeping under the skin, and creeping upwards to the subtle channels of the mind.
If overlooked, the presence of ama can lead to several underlying health issues. Ayurvedic practitioners consider ama as the root of all diseases and forms of illness. They refer to such health problems as ‘Amaya’. It means ‘caused by ama.’

Today, we’ll discuss what Agni, the digestive fire, really is and how it improves health.
