The Atomic Fallout Society is here! The boys prep for some time off and picked a good time to get set for some big changes. They decide to revamp the format of the show with this being the last show they review the usual comics of the week, but they send off the old format with one last review with a twist. The boys talk about the current series you need to be reading right now. David kicks things off with his love letter to Guardians of the Galaxy, the one Marvel title that Dave says you should give a damn about. Chris gets a little bestial with Animal Man from DC, and Brian rounds things off with the one title you'd expect from the beard of Steel, Batman/Superman. The boys round on the show by giving a little preview of what the new format entails with some discussion on the latest geek news. It's Atomic Fallout time! To listen, click here. OH LOOORD! It's Atomic Fallout TIME! The boys kick things off with David leading off talking about the much talked about Injustice: Gods Among Us. Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo continue the 2nd season of the popular DC title based on the video game Injustice Gods Among Us Year Two #2. Is there real reason to fear the Man of Steel? Chris follows up changing names not once, not twice, but three times. The dubbed Nickels brings the much anticipated Winter Solider #1. Just in time for the movie, does this Winter Solider title fill the missing gaps of the characters mythos? Talent rounds things up with the reviews with an Image #1, 'cause that's how pros like him roll. The Fuse #1 by Antony Johnston and Justin Greenwood. Law In Order in Space... does it work? The Talented Beard of Steel educates us and brings a surprising title to the table. In the later part of the show, just in time for Valentines Day, the boys discuss the most dysfunctional relationships in comics. Atomic Fallout Love for all, just get checked afterwards. You don't know where these three have been. ATOMIC FALLOUT SOCIETY RISE! To listen, click here. To download, right click and "Save As..." The boys are back, tired and high on sugar. Can they get through the show? It's the Atomic Fallout Society with David Sabal, Brian Smith, and Chris Lilagan! Brian kicks things off with Trillium #6 from Jeff Lemire and Vertigo Comics. It's a series that has caught the eye of the esteemed Professor Smith. How's this tale of time travel faring so far? David follows it up with a look at the All-New Invaders from Marvel Comics. Invaders #2 is brought to the table by James Robinson and Steve Pugh. This is re-introduction to a forgotten team. Can this be a sign of good things from Marvel Comics? David sets the table for Chris, who breaks the record of good comics for the past couple weeks with Swamp Thing. That's right, Swamp Thing from DC. Chris feels the title isn't as strong as it could be. Could the Green be losing some of its luster? The boys try to finish the show by looking at some breaking news of the day on the interwebs, but things turn ugly, and the boys finish the show feeling dirty and ashamed. Want to know why? The boys are back, and so is the Karaoke! But singing only for our fans out there, time to get to the brass tacks... Chris kicks things off with a look at his character of choice, The Flash. Flash #27 kicks things off with a new creative team, Brian Buccellato and Patrick Zircher. It looks like this is the beginning of the return of a certain other Flash, but what will happen to Barry Allen? Brian continues the positive reviews with Serenity Firefly Class 03-K64 brought to us by Zack Whedon and Georges Jeanty. Dark Horse Comics continues the franchise trend, and Browncoats everywhere will be pleased as peaches with the continuation of the cult series. Dave finishes off with the final chapter of Damen Son of Batman. Andy Kubert's Elseworld title that brings back the son of Bruce Wayne to the masses has been received with lukewarm fanfare. What does the Instigator of AFS have to say 'bout the series? The boys finish things up with a small industry news segment after being surprised by the return of the old Captain, the Voice of Reason Version 1.0, Tony Sabal. So it's talk bout superheroes, ninja turtles and Filipinos. What could go wrong? So are we getting back together, ever, ever, ever, getting back together? To listen, click here. And now is the winter of our discontent... It's the Atomic Fallout Society. No karaoke this week, but the boys decided we needed to educate the masses. First though, David kicks things off with a Marvel review, BUT it's no ordinary Marvel title. Empire of the Dead #1 by THE George Romero hit the shelves. David contains his biases for his horror mentor and brings a new chapter to the Dead series of Romero. Is this another Walking Dead rip-off or is this another take on the genre by one of it's forefathers? Brian brings in Jack Hammer #1 from Action Lab Comics. Writer Brandon Barrows and artist Ionic bring a title of noir and intrigue. But something smells a little fishy in the waters, and the Talent enlightens us. Chris finishes up the reviews with Baddass #1 from creative team Herik Hannna and Bruno Bessadi. Is this a new fresh title from Dynamite Press, or is this just another comic in the vein of Millar World? The boys finish things up, well, Brian finishes things up with another "Educating the Masses" and dons the Professor robes to teach the public ' bout The Winter Solider story just in time for the 2nd wave of Marvel number one comics as well as the latest Captain America film coming soon. Step up to the microphone; it's Atomic Fallout Time! The boys are back and climbing out of the abyss that was Marvel, and Dave got his two cohorts hopped up on sugar and pizza. This week, Dave starts us off with a little IDW. It's Black Dynamite #1 from Brian Ash and Ron Wimberly. That Black Dynamite is one bad mutha... shut your Asian mouth! It's a look at the popular adult swim series debut into comics with an origin tale of Black Dynamite. Chris brings the finale to Superior Spiderman Darkest Hour. Will the fans get what they have been demanding for the past year, and what does 5D think about the run so far? Brian finishes it off with a reprint of Alan Moore's (AKA The Original Writer) Miracleman #1 from Marvel Comics. They once again ask the question: what's up with Alan Moore? The boys are back for the new year, and "Special" Kermit starts things off to an awkward start. The boys decide to welcome things back with a Marvel Now Celebration! Okay, maybe not so much a celebration... 5D, Christopher Lilagan, brings us Savage Wolverine #14 - Wrath #1. From creator Richard Isanove we get a Wolverine noir story. Does it live up to the hype? It's a Marvel title; what do you think? Brian brings us the return of writer Peter David in X-Factor#1. The team of David and Di Giandomenico should be a slam dunk for this title, or is it? David rounds out the review with Wolverine #13 - The Killable Conclusion. As you can tell, this doesn't look to pretty for Marvel so far. Can the new Voice of Reason bring balance to this small comic book podcast? The boys miss out on picking the brain of 5D 'bout his trip 'cause Marvel decided to leave the boys with a lot to say 'bout the upcoming Re-Marvel Now... This should be good, so it's time to hit our music, it's time to light the lights, it's time to get things started IT'S ATOMIC FALLOUT TIME! To listen, click here. It's The Atomic Fallout Society, same Atomic time, same Atomic channel! 5D, Chris Lilagan, is out of town on holiday vacation leaving Brian and Dave to man the ship. Will they survive?! Who's kidding who? But don't worry, Dave's got one trick up his sleeve, or actually it's one man. The Captain returns! First, though, the boys have some reviews to do... Brian kicks things off with The Illegitimates #1 from IDW Press and SNL star Taran Killam. Let's just say Brian doesn't quite dig this #1 issue, and we find out more about Brian than we ever wanted to know... Dave brings in this week's big guns in Harley Quinn #1. The anticipated title from DC Comics about everyone's favorite crazy, clown loving, mallet wielding sociopath hit the shelves this past week from the creative team of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti. Dave's apparent dream girl storms the DC 52 Universe in her own title. Will it please the masses? Can Harley's shorts get any shorter? In the 2nd half of the show, the bat signal is set off as the show can't seem to function without two Filipinos on board. So Tony, The Captain, returns. Did he return out of time after being shot by time bullets? Needless to say, he brings in a special Speculator's Corner in with TOP 5 Things to Get Your Comic Book Loving Geek... The boys throw a little debate towards the end by looking at another Top 10 list that begs the question: "What are the Top 10 DC story lines that should be turned into a film?" Brian kicks things off with Dead Body Road #1. An image comic one part Punisher, one part Noir Film, all glorious revenge tale. Justin Jordon on writing duties and Matteo Scalera bring us another tale from Image Comics. Does it live up to Brian's standards? CTB brings us a little known comic from Marvel Comics, Nova #11. Will CTB earn his stripes and show that Marvel in Space is far better than Marvel on Earth? David bats cleanup and brings the anticipated Justice League #25. Why is it anticipated? It's the origin of Owlman from the Crime Syndicate, The Darkest Knight. With some twists and surprises will this Forever Evil tie-in keep the evil train rolling or is Forever Evil coming off the tracks? The 2nd half of the show, the boys react to the announcement of Jeff Lemire's finishing the Animal Man title next year in March with Animal Man #29. They look back at the critically acclaimed run that Lemire pulled off with one of DC lesser known heroes. Afterwards, the question of the day is asked, if you had the chance, what lesser known superhero would you write for and bring back from the comic book shadows? After an extended hiatus, Atomic Fallout Society IS BACK! Brian, Chris, and Dave return in a new recording location, maybe future Abnormal Studios, and bring the hate and confusion. Three weeks have passed, and the boys waste no time but jump right into the deep end. Brian brings in Hinterkind #3 from Vertigo Press. Brian brought the 1st issue of Hinterkind awhile back, but does the title continue to roll, or does it stop dead on the train tracks? Written by Ian Edginton with art by Francesco Trifogli, a lot of comic trolls have accused this title of being Saga light, but what does The Beard of Steel say? Up next is Fluffer, aka Chris, as he brings the swan song of Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato from the Flash title, Flash Zero Year. Does this Zero Year tie-in to the team justice? Well in the end of everything Chris gained the title of C.T.B., want to know what that stands for? Up last is Dave bringing us another swan song to the DC writers pool. Geoff Johns' run in Aquaman comes to a climactic end in Aquaman #25. Did Johns fulfill his goal of bringing another low level superhero up a notch? Or did Dave find some holes in the ship that was Aquaman? Rounding up the last half of the show, it's Chris' 2nd chance of redemption at claiming the industry news segment of the show. The boys discuss what's been missed the last three weeks and finish up with thoughts on the latest casting choices for the next round of Superheroes and Super heroines. It's ATOMIC FALLOUT SOCIETY TIME, DID JA MISS US? (On a side note, Atomic Fallout Society is lookin' for a new theme song. What's this? It's Atomic Fallout Time! The show starts off with David talking bout history's Lewis and Clark... Hold your snooze alarms. Image Comics brings us Manifest Destiny #1 from writer Chris Dingess and artist Matthew Roberts. It's an Image Comic #1 tale about the secret mission of Lewis and Clark. Brian follows up with a look at Batman 25 from the all-star team of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. Zero Year continues on track as the story talks 'bout Batsy, Alfred, and Gordon before they ruled Gotham. What's Captain Talent's thoughts? Fluffer, aka Chris, finishes us off proper with Superman/Wonder Woman #2. Charles Soule and Tony S. Daniel continue the story of Supes and Diana's relationship as Clark meets his future in-laws. But is this a "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner" take on Superhero relations saved by the return of an old Superman villain? You will all kneel! Speaking of villains, the boys decide to continue the segment left to them by the former Captain. It's time to ask "What Have We Learned?" This time, the boys tackle the beginning of DC's Villains Month and finish it up by asking questions of Marvel's Battle of the Atom. It's ATOMIC FALLOUT SOCIETY KNEEL BEFORE ZOD! Nine out of ten geeks agree, IT'S ATOMIC FALLOUT TIME! The guys get off to a fast start as Chris brings us CATACLYSM: THE ULTIMATES' LAST STAND #1. Ultimates forefathers Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley bring us the final chapter to the Marvel Ultimates Universe. Has Galactus come, or is this just another Age of Ultron? Chris scores well, and finally upgrades to a higher lvl of Fluffer... and in other news, David brings us the return of the fan favorite X-man, Nightcrawler in Amazing X-Men #1. Does death continue to be mocked in comics, or did the team of Jason Aaron an Ed Mcguinness pay there respects to the dearly revived? Brian rounds up the reviews with and Image #1 in Alex + Ada, a futuristic take on human society with a special twist. Did it please the Beard of Steel, or does this Image title fall flat? It's a reboot of an old Atomic Fallout segment, Speculator's Corner. With the absent Captain, it's up to the Beard of Steel as he brings us his "Collector's Corner". Brian takes a look at the rising prices of certain Image number ones, and of course, he has to throw in a couple Superman titles as well as a quick look at a story arc that might see a resurgence soon thanks to the upcoming Thor movie. It's Halloween, and The Atomic Fallout Society has got some treats for the masses. Or is it a trick? Brian kicks things off with the much anticipated Sandman Overture by Neil Gaiman and J.H. Williams III. Fans have been waiting for the return of Dream of the Endless. Does the title score as one of the tops or does it fall flat? Diaper, aka Chris Lilagan, brings us a tale from Hellraiser courtesy of Boom Studios. Hellraiser 2013 Annual #01 from Clive Barker, Mark Miller and artists Janusz Ordon, Jesus Hervas. The creative teams bring us two separate tales of terror from the forgotten horror franchise. David finishes it off with the title that made him sick for the first time in Atomic Fallout history; Crossed Badlands #40 from Avatar Press. The team of David Hine and German Erramouspe continue the mayhem of Crossed in Crossed Badlands. Did it go too far, or was it just the story that pushed David over the edge? The boys finish up the Halloween Special with a look at the Horror genre in comics and discuss what does make a Horror comic and what makes a good one. Brian educates us on a little background of the old comics code, and the boys give a last minute treat by plugging their choice for best comic based on Halloween. What is it? Find out? Dave brings in another nostalgia piece in the new Samurai Jack comic from IDW and Cartoon Network. Samurai Jack and the Threads of Time #1 from Jim Zub and Andy Suriano. Atomic Fallout Society RISE UP! Episode 103 kicks off with David reviewing/spoiling a book from Boom Studios in IMAGINE AGENTS #1 from creator Brian Joines and artist Bachan. In over 100 episodes, he still hasn't figured out how to review properly... Brian rebounds the reviewing with LETTER 44 #1 from Oni Press and writer Charles Soule. Chris gets downgraded from Nozzle Lvl to Funnel Lvl by decree of Professor Smith. He makes up for it by bringing to the table Rogues' Rebellion #1 from Flash writer/artist Brian Buccellato and artist Patrick Zircher. And in the main event, Brian takes on the biggest task given to Educating the Masses... Neil Gaiman's Sandman. This week, we welcome back David Sabal... and find Tony Sabal missing. Actually, he's off prepping for the big 100th episode, so we have Dave, Brian Smith and returning guest Chris Liligan back to review a very big week for comic books. Dave reviews the first issue of Marvel's latest storyline, Battle of the Atom, and they do a "retake" of Days of Future Past. You think the X-Men learned for time travel and the crap it brings? Chris reviews one of the Villain titles from DC, Justice League with Darkseid. We get a backstory showing the rise of Darkseid, which may lead to something bigger in the future for this Dark New God. Finally, Brian reviews the big one from DC, Forever Evil and the return of the Crime Syndicate of America. Lots of questions will start to be answered beginning with this one. With the return of Dave, we have industry news which will be interesting, since Tony's not around to make sure the show doesn't go to hell. The guys also go into a very important discussion of a very special indie project that's coming up... The Atomic Fallout Society... two more episodes to 100, so hang on for your dear life. First of all, this is Episode 96. Despite what you may hear in this episode, we had a serious brain fart, and this IS episode 96. Dave is out this week and may be out for some time, because he apparently lost the ability to walk in step... stay tuned on that front. In his place, we replaced him this week with another Filipino in order to maintain the majority, and that Filipino is Chris Lilagan! Chris starts his indoctrination by reviewing the 2nd issue of Batman '66. It's not bad for the first review, but according to Brian, it's not his first attempt at an AFS review. Tony reviews... or tries to review that latest Daredevil issue from Mark Waid. Just pick up this title... period. Brian reviews the 1st issue of Batman Beyond Universe which also includes the Justice League Beyond team. Very solid book. This week also brings us the latest Educating The Masses, and this week, Brian introduces us to "Flash: Rebirth". He's more than just a really, really fast guy as there's more to the Flash than meets the eye. The Atomic Fallout Society... fighting the man by making sure Filipinos dominate this show. It's a brand new day for The Atomic Fallout Society. Off they are going... as the former Captain would say. With no voice of reason to steer the ship, will the new Atomic Fallout Society crew be able to lead the way? David brings us Shaolin Cowboy #1 from Dark Horse Comics and sees a series that has potential. The new Filipino Chris brings us the shortest review in Atomic history in Rocket Girl, but don't worry, he has a VERY special hazing review by the end. Brian again tackles a Superman title, but this one was highly anticipated, Superman/Wonder Woman #1. Does the Beard of Steel like this romance comic for the man of steel, or will it spell doomsday for Superman and Wonder Woman's relationship? The boys round it off with a birds and bees talk in comics and ask the multi-million dollar question... is sex in comics a good thing? It's THE Atomic Fallout Society... still two Filipino strong, but with that new podcast smell... To listen, click here. To download, right click and "Save As..." A new era begins for The Atomic Fallout Society with episode 101 as Tony Sabal announces his temporary departure from the show to tend to other business and personal matters. But let's face it, 100 shows will do that to you. But not to worry as our good friend Chris Lilagan steps in to join the AFS crew on a regular basis. For this show, Tony, Dave, Brian and Chris all participate in what turns out to be a more "raw" version of the AFS. Chris leads off by reviewing the latest Green Lantern that starts off the "Lights Out" storyline. Chris is a BIG Green Lantern fan... and needless to say, this issue leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Not a good way to start off your AFS run. Tony's final review for AFS (for now) is Captain America: Living Legend # 1. Solid story that even has the feel of the Captain America movie. Brian reviews Hinterkind... it's a DC Vertigo book, so it's going to be really, really trippy. Lastly, Dave reviews THE Star Wars. This isn't the Star Wars that you're used to. This one was based on George Lucas' initial rough draft of the story, so it's going to make your head explode... like Dave's. As a final sendoff, Tony asks the AFS crew, what have we learned from Marvel Now and any other items that we have learned from the new DC 52? The Atomic Fallout Society... wait until you get a load of what's in store for the next several shows. To listen, click here. To download, right click and "Save As..." No conspiracy here. The Atomic Fallout Society finally returns after a brief hiatus to deliver the 100TH episode of its "legendary" and "epic" run. Dave starts off with a review of the latest Guardians Of The Galaxy. Maybe we can get an explanation of why Angela's in the Marvel Universe. Tony reviews Sex Criminal, and it is what you expect. There's sex and there's a crime... well, eventually there's a crime, but there's sex, and you will learn some very interesting positions. Finally, Brian discusses the Joker's Daughter... yes, the Joker apparently has a daughter, and everyone on the planet has been waiting for this one. Is it worth it? Better yet, is it worth the money you'll spend for the 3D comic book? Tune in to find out what the guys think as well as a preview of what the guys learned ever since the AFS first started many, many moons ago. Don't adjust your sound settings. Your system is working as normal. Dave and Tony decide to give Brian a well-deserved week off and in their infinite wisdom, decide to go back to the very beginnings of the Atomic Fallout Society and record old-school... by the way, that opening and closing theme was indeed the original theme music that Tony used to kick off The Atomic Fallout Society. This week, Tony reviews Batman 23.2 which is dedicated to the Riddler. This version of the Riddler isn't just fun and games... he's a serious cat who's going to make Batman's life very, very miserable in a battle of wits. It's going to be worth reading in the future. Dave reviews the latest Flash and gets some insight on who exactly the Reverse Flash is. He has his own theory of where it might be going, which would make for interesting conversation. Dave also rants about the latest version of... Lobo. It's not the Lobo that you are familiar with, and Tony has his own opinion of what DC has done to the bounty hunter. That, and the boys have a very, very, very special guest sit in not only listening, but finally hearing what these two have been up to the last two years... The Atomic Fallout Society... going old-school and loving it. To listen, click here. To download, right click and "Save As..." Please support our show by clicking the links to our Sponsors.
This week, we welcome Jacob O'Neal from the Gorram Nerd Hour as he sits in for David Sabal. Jacob helps out by reviewing a Hellboy title... but this isn't your typical Hellboy title, and it doesn't end well. Brian Smith reviews Collider # 2... whoops, the Federal Bureau of Physics or whatever it's called from now on. Anyway, it doesn't affect the story overall, so you might want to pick this one up. Tony Sabal reviews Batman Inc. Special #1. Yes, Batman Inc. isn't quite over, but how can you turn your back on Bat-Cow? Is it worth reviewing even though the Trinity War is over? Tony also discusses various topics in the speculator's market like original comic art. Is it worth the investment? Maybe if you have a LOT of money? Also, does controversy and/or changing your title name affect speculation? Better yet, how about them 3D covers that DC is planning in the month of September? Tune in, but we make no guarantees that you'll make any profit listening to this show. The Atomic Fallout Society... forever evil... really evil. To listen, click here.
