CEArts @theroundtable with Crossroads Dance Indy

Community • Education • Arts (@4CEArts) @theroundtable with Crossroads Dance Indy, Parts 1 -4

Recently, dancers-choreographers Brittany Gaither, Emily Miser, and Nicole Dean from Crossroads Dance Indy joined us @theroundtable to talk about their upcoming January 28-30, 2022 original full-length show called, The Stories We Tell. Gaither, Dean, and Conti each choreographed one of the three pieces that make up the show and tell a different story, ultimately demonstrating that, because we all have different experiences and backgrounds, we all have a story to share. Performances will be held at Arts for Lawrence on January 28 and 29 at 7:00pm and January 30 at 2:00pm. Crossroads Dance Indy is also hosting a class entitled, Writing the Stories We Tell, where participants get a behind the scenes look at each piece and learn a small section of each. The class will be Monday, December 13th from 6-7pm.

CEArts @theroundtable with Thomas DeCarlo & The Encounter film project, Parts 1 & 2

CEArts @theroundtable with Thomas DeCarlo & The Encounter film project, Parts 1 & 2

Thomas DeCarlo of DeCarlo Animation recently joined us @theroundtable to talk about his upcoming full-length animated film, The Encounter, which is based on the animated short of the same name that he created in 2018. The Encounter is being made for under $1 million with an unprecedentedly small team of 12 international artists. The Encounter, while appropriate for families, is written specifically for adults, not children. DeCarlo’s goal is to provide a more intellectual, emotionally complex storyline that addresses racism, xenophobia, and anti-intellectualism while providing strong female characters and a diverse cast. Pre-production on the film began in 2019, and much of the visual design has been completed. Actors will be recorded over the coming months, allowing the voice performances to drive final animation. The film is expected to be released in 2023.

Content Note:

Written works, especially classics and books set in historical time periods, may contain problematic content. NICE Project books may possess problematic elements of prejudice, intolerance, racism, classism, violence, and abuse. We’ve recorded several episodes that discuss racism and prejudice in general, and how to address problematic elements in classics and period books. Some of the questions we asked ourselves are: what’s really there? How do we view the book today vswhen it was written/the setting? What is the value of reading books with problematic elements? For answers to those questions and more, listen to our podcast episodes available here: https://cearts.org/discussions-against-racism/

How do we view the book today vs when it was written/the setting? What is the value of reading books with problematic elements? For answers to those questions and more, listen to our podcast episodes available here: https://cearts.org/discussions-against-racism/

How do we view the book today vs when it was written/the setting? What is the value of reading books with problematic elements? For answers to those questions and more, listen to our podcast episodes available here: https://cearts.org/discussions-against-racism/
