MODES OF THOUGHT IN ANTERRAN LITERATURE: INTRO FROM ALEX AND WINNIE

KEMP OF WOLF AT THE DOOR STUDIOS

Alex: Hi, everybody. I’m Alex Kemp.

Winnie: And I’m Winnie Kemp and together we run Wolf at the Door Studios.

Alex: And we’re the creators of the show Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature.

Winnie: Modes of Thought is a spy thriller and paranormal horror show wrapped in the guide of history lectures.

Alex: I play the professor, a classics historian who is teaching a class on what he claims is a newly discovered ancient civilization that is 60 thousand years older than anything we’ve previously known about.

Winnie: And it was found after a Chinese submarine accidentally went down in the Pacific Ocean- so the Chinese government cordoned off the area, and scrubbed the internet.

Alex: And that's why you guys can't find any information on Anterra out there.

Winnie: But that doesn't stop the professor and his students from trying to dig deeper into the mysteries of Anterra.

Alex: The episode you're about to hear is from Season 2, and it involved the mysterious ritual that every citizen in this ancient city performed.

Winnie: At least, that’s what we think. Evidence from Anterra is pretty unclear. Was this a rite of passage? A religious ceremony? Or are we waking up ancient magic?

Alex: We really hope you enjoy the show, and please join us on reddit or instagram or wherever if you want to share your theories on Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature.

Winnie: Thanks so much, and enjoy the listen!

2023 Showcase: Murder in HR

2023 Showcase: Murder in HR

Hi, I'm Ian Faison, creator and executive producer of Murder in HR, a podcast produced by Caspian Studios.

Murder in HR is a murder mystery podcast starring Kate Mara and Brett Gelman. It's Jemma’s first day as an employee experience manager at Peace of Ship, an AI-powered tech startup. When her colleague Larry is electrocuted during the company all-hands, she uncovers a terrible secret. It was murder!

Now, Jemma and her chief people officer, Nicholas, are tasked with finding the killer. She must use her HR skills to investigate her toxic colleagues without becoming the next victim.

For the showcase, we're submitting Episode 1, “The Drunken Sailor.” Now, this is a murder mystery after all, so we can't spoil anything, but we introduced the killer and all the rest of the characters in episode one.

Everyone at Caspian has put a ton of work into this and we wouldn't be here without all of our listeners. Thank you so much for considering us. Thank you for listening. We hope this adds a little bit of fun to your day. And if you want to listen to more, you can look up Murder in HR wherever you get your podcasts.

Thank you!

2023 Showcase: Nero's Class

2023 Showcase: Nero's Class

Hi, this is Bobby Aherne. I’m the writer and producer of ‘Nero’s Class’. ‘Nero’s Class’ is almost like a satire of the “inspiring teacher” genre of old movies like ‘Conrack’ and ‘Ciao Professore!’ and movies like that… ‘Up the Down Staircase’. While also being a children’s adventure series in the vein of ‘Gravity Falls’, ‘Around the Twist’, and ‘The Three Investigators’, ‘Over the Garden Wall, ‘Eerie, Indiana’… things like that. Then things on, y’know, Cartoon Swim and Adult… Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. The first series came out last autumn. There were six episodes, and the episode you’re about to hear is episode three, which is entitled ‘History 101’. In the first couple of episodes, Professor Nero… he’s like a fuddy-duddy Mainlander, and he arrives over to Mrunglody, which is a weird mythical island. And there’s three… there’s only three children on the island and they’re 12, 9 and 6. And he has to teach them, even though they’ve never been to school before and they don’t know anything about Mainlander ways and stuff like that. And rather than them having to adjust to HIS world, he finds himself having to adjust to THEIR world. So in the first couple of episodes, it turns out that the treehouse that he’s teaching them in has magical powers like the gift of flight, and can take them on these magical school tours across the world. And he gets very frustrated, because all he wants to do is teach his curriculum and teach his class. Yet they end up going on all these different adventures, which obviously the kids love. This is the third episode and, as well as Hugh Cooney (who plays Professor Nero) and our three amazing child actors (Penny O’Dwyer, Elsie Akinduko and Rian Sheridan), this episode also features a cameo from John Hodgman… which is very exciting. Please enjoy and thank you for listening!

2023 Showcase: The Hacker Chronicles

2023 Showcase: The Hacker Chronicles

This is Rex New. I’m the showrunner of The Hacker Chronicles, a podcast from Tenable and Caspian Studios that stars Michael C. Hall and Chloe Taylor. The Hacker Chronicles is about Alice, a barista who turns to hacking in order to pay off her debts. At the end of Season 1, Alice pulls off a devastating hack on one of the world’s biggest food conglomerates, bringing its East Coast operations to a halt for a few days.

Alice almost gets away with it – only to be caught by another hacker, a man she knows only as John Doe. John Doe offers Alice a deal: she can work for him, or he’ll doxx her to the FBI. Alice takes the deal.

And as we pick up in Season 2, blackmail doesn’t seem so bad. Alice is in Europe doing some mysterious operations for John. And she’s trying to balance her roles as a friend and sister with her secret life.

For the Nominee Showcase, we’re submitting Episode 1 of Season 2, which is called “Friends with Benefits.” I think it’s a great introduction to the show, even if you haven’t listened to Season 1. It has almost all the members of our incredible cast, who I can’t say enough positive things about.

You’ll also get to see just how we approach hacking in the show as well. We make this show with the cyber-security firm Tenable, and everything you see in the show has either happened or actually could. We do a ton of research, and we’re committed to making an entertaining story that you can learn a lot from. I know I have.

On behalf of our team, thanks for listening. If you like what you hear, check out our podcast feed, where you can binge both seasons. And make sure you take a listen to some of the other nominees. There are some incredible shows out there and so much creativity.

Thanks again!

2023 Showcase: Shadows at the Door

2023 Showcase: Shadows at the Door

1. Hello there, this is David Ault. With Mark Nixon, we make up the team behind Shadows at the Door: The Podcast, a proudly queer northern anthology podcast celebrating the quiet horror stories where atmosphere and crescendo are everything. Every month we release and discuss a full-cast story, whether it be an adaptation of a classic tale of MR James or Charles Dickens, or a modern 'pleasing terror' from the pen of Mark Nixon, or guest writers such as Laurel Hightower, Gemma Amor, or this showcase episode from special guest writer Jamie Flanagan. It's called 'Bruiser', and is the story of a care home where life slips away as gradually as the tide, where souls outlive the body and something waits outside their door. Tisha Page, an overworked carer, is about to discover there's a purpose for people like her. Featuring special guest stars Rahul Kohli and Dave Fennoy, along with a cast that includes Jazzy Frizzle, David Ault, Steve Hendrickson, Harlan Guthrie, Nikolas Yuen and Rissa Montañez. The music is by Nico Vittesse and production is by Mark Nixon.

cw: Story: slow death, memory loss, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, moderate self inflicted bodily harm, aging, implied fat phobia, eye injury, loss of eyesight, mild jump scare. Discussion: brief discussion of age related death and dementia related decline, discussion of persecution by religious figures.

2023 Showcase: Superhuman Public Radio

2023 Showcase: Superhuman Public Radio

This is John Dorsey, Co-Executive Producer on Superhuman Public Radio. The show is what the news would be in a world full of superheroes. The place you tune into to get the latest about that giant robot attacking the city, interviews with reformed supervillains, and advice on how to fix your animal-themed supercar. It’s a parody of podcasting and a love letter to comic books all in one. These are the stories between the panels. What happens after the punching is done and the hero flies away.

We’re presenting the second episode of season two titled: “Whatever Happened to the Kid.” To give you some context for where we are in the story. Congress has just passed the Super Act requiring all Superhumans in the United States to publicly register their abilities. Outside the offices of SPR, you can hear people taking to the streets to defend their rights. With America’s greatest hero Cosmos, deported for being an illegal alien, the Heroic Legion struggles to lead it’s membership in these trying times. To make matters worse, President Norris has taken up his predecessors' hard right stance, aligning himself with anti-superhuman groups…

Things are changing for Supers in America, and there’s only one place they get the news…

This is Superhuman Public Radio.

Thank you for listening and enjoy the show.

2023 Showcase: Vocal Canvas

2023 Showcase: Vocal Canvas

My name is Dennis Connors. I am the writer, director, and one of the producers of Vocal Canvas. This podcast is an exploration of voice - through half vignette, half educational. Each episode centers one of the 5 aspects of voice -- volume, pace, pitch, resonance, and diction. This whole entire project was a collaboration between NextGen Acting, which is an acting school in NJ, East Brunswick Public Library, which is the local library, and Playhouse 22 which is a community theatre in East Brunswick NJ. We wanted to create this piece because the library got this awesome new recording booth and it just evolved from there. I wrote a majority of the episode/ skeleton. At the end of each episode, there is a community piece, which was written by a community theatre author. I hope everyone enjoys this experience. It's a little bit of everything. There's different vignettes. It's anthological, not necessarily serialized. So just enjoy all the different ways we can change up our voice and an exploration of the five aspects of voice. Thank you so much for listening, to our community writers, and to our voice over actors!

2023 Showcase: Archion

2023 Showcase: Archion

Hey there this is Caleb Thomas Hughes, writer, director, producer, and voice of Simeon on Archion. Archion is a story of found family and the discovery of one’s purpose. The show is about the Archion Demonic Hunting League, an organization sworn to protect the human world from the threat of the Archion, a race of mostly human-like creatures that hail from another dimension. A malicious Archion evil, the High Order, is on a constant warpath to take the human world for themselves.

The story follows one squad of League agents in particular. Indigo Squad, which is comprised of four members. Simeon Harold, a half human half archion hybrid, Melanie Reeves, a League prodigy with a haunting childhood, Poppy Dennings, an Archion attack survivor turned agent, and Victor Velasco, the goofy and lovable medic. The series follows as their lives become intertwined with the very fate of both the Human and Archion worlds.

What you are about to listen to is Episode 10, or the 5th episode of season 2. Archion is a continuous story so while I do recommend you start from the beginning, I’ll give you a quick bit of context. In the first few scenes, Hohenheim, Simeon’s father, is on the hunt for a serial killer that only targets half-humans. You’ll hear them interrogate the top suspect. After that we follow Simeon and Melanie on an adventure back in time in the Viking Age as they prepare to face the menacing beast Jormungandr.

Enjoy!

The second season picks up where the first left off, but it also a stand alone story that can be enjoyed by any listener. So we’d love to present for you … season 2 episode 1.

2023 Showcase: Where the Leaves Fall Purple

2023 Showcase: Where the Leaves Fall Purple

Hi, my name is Kimberly Billinton, and I am the showrunner and creator of Where The Leaves Fall Purple. Where The Leaves Fall Purple is about a university student who runs a failing true crime podcast. In an effort to get more listeners, he asks his best friend Janie if she'll go missing, aka. Stage her own disappearance, and he'll document finding her on the show. And things go great until Janie really does go missing. And the only clue as to where she's gone is what looks like blood writing on the wall that says Where the Leaves Fall purple. So instead of a fictional crime that Ben knew how to solve, he now has potentially a very real case on his hands that he may have inadvertently caused. For your consideration, this is season one, episode eight of Where the Leaves Fall Purple when Ben met Janie. What you should know is that this show is serialized and it is a mystery thriller. So your enjoyment of the show will be more if you do start at the top in episode one and work your way through to episode eight. Up until this point, we've had missing people, a dead body, and the police who are just a couple steps behind Ben and his friends trying to solve this case and starting to point the fingers at them. In this episode you're about to hear, Ben goes back thinking about his history with his friend Janie, how they met, their first three years of university, and their relationships with their other friends. See if you can figure out what Where The Leaves Fall Purple means and what happened to Janie before Ben can. Thank you for your consideration and your votes.

2023 Showcase: Dark Dice: Shores of the Silver Thrum

Greetings adventurers this is Travis Vengroff, the co-DM, editor, and sound designer behind Dark Dice. Dark Dice is an improvised horror fiction podcast where the outcome is decided by the role of the dice. You're about to hear chapter 3 - Lure in which our band of nautical adventurers are attacked by denizens of the deep. Our previous episode ended on a cliffhanger as one of the crew members of the ship the Willow's Wake was ripped into the air violently. Additional things worth noting are that this show contains two game masters, as opposed to one, myself and K.A. Statz, and additionally the soundtrack is 100% custom and original to our story. We have been working on it for the last two years in preparation for this adventure and hope that it brings you as much joy to hear as it did for us to create. One last point of possible confusion - every time Statz or myself voices an NPC we later re-record that with a voice actor. This show is rated R for violence and language. We hope you enjoy our story. Keep this way.

Hello there! This is Christopher S. Fox, creator, producer, director, writer, editor, pretty much a one-man band (for now) of THE ADVENTURES OF THE FOX IN THE FEDORA. I also voice the main character,Fox,in the show. The term “multiverse” is a bit of an overused buzzword these days, with so many films and TV shows utilizing this concept over and over again. We wanted to make a show that features such a concept that is simple to follow and fun to listen to.THE ADVENTURES OF THE FOX IN THE FEDORA is a series inspired by the Saturday morning cartoons and series of yesterday. Filled with everything from cartoony antics to more serious drama, this series follows the many adventures of Fox from an Earth much like our own, but populated by anthropomorphic animals. That’s a fancy term for animals that act like humans and have human-like qualities, such as hands and feet. Thanks to three wishes from a genie trapped in his hat, Fox and his ragtag group of friends are able to travel to different Earths in different universes, filled with unique species and cultures, in search of dangerous magical artifacts. Fox’s mission in life is to continue his late grandmother’s calling, to scour all worlds for these artifacts and safeguard them from those with greedy intentions and nefarious purposes. We, the cast and crew, hope you enjoy this first episode and that you’ll wish us luck at the Audio Verse Awards.

2023 Showcase: Three Christmas Trees

2023 Showcase: Three Christmas Trees

This is Jason Markiewitz, owner, director, writer, voice actor, etc. of Markiewitz Audioworks, our production of Three Christmas Trees follows the life of a young boy from his early youth, where he receives a card that has this beautiful Christmas tree on it, and some of the things that transpire around this time where he ultimately doesn’t get to see that tree but longs after it, all the way through his adulthood where once again he brings his new bride to see the tree of his youth, and then as he gets older and nearing his deathbed where he recollects the Christmas trees of his youth. It’s a heartwarming story that follows this young boy's life, where the major moments are captured by the beauty and the majesty of Christmas trees. The entire production includes sounds and music to help the listener follow along with what’s going on, but the blending style of narrative along with the vignettes give it a unique style to this particular production and one that I think really helps tell this story in a very unique way. I certainly hope you enjoy it.

2023 Showcase: Under the Electric Stars

2023 Showcase: Under the Electric Stars

Hi, this is Eli Ramos, creator of Under the Electric Stars. Under the Electric Stars is a cyberpunk adventure about Metropolis West, one of the last cities standing after a nuclear war. Caine Reyes, the fastest driver in the Metropolis, has been trying to pay back the debt their family fell into years ago. After their bot gets broken, Caine runs into the rebel group Zero Zero and joins the rising revolution. This episode is S2E10: Recall, which is pretty far into our second season--I chose it because it dives into the backstory of Caine and their bot, Jet, and it answers some questions about what their lives were like before the events of the show. It also highlights a lot of themes that I think are really significant to the series, so I hope you enjoy. Before you listen, just wanted to give the trigger warnings, which are dehumanization, abuse (physical, emotional manipulation/gaslighting, discussion of withholding food), memory loss, and extensive discussion on death and its impact. There's also extensive medical discussion including discussions of memory loss and ableism. I hope that informs your choice on whether or not you feel prepare to listen to this episode. Thanks.

Looking at issues such as the future of warfare, the increasingly powerful role of corporations in our society and the ethics of scientific advances and the practice of business , the show features a fully professional cast and after a very successful Kickstarter campaign our second series has been recorded and will be released from late October.

You're about to listen to our special edition ""The International Confederation"" which is one of a couple of stand-alone stories we've released between our first and second series. Here you'll hear great performances from lead actors Alex White and Tiffany Clare as well as an amazing soundtrack by our composer Doctor Allen Stroud. Enjoy and thank you for listening to the Dex Legacy."

2023 Showcase: Welcome to Reddington

2023 Showcase: Welcome to Reddington

Hi this is Meghan Griffin, the Creative Director over at Welcomed to Reddington. Reddington is a fictional town in New Hampshire where the citizens all think they've been in town for awhile, if not their entire lives. Various folks have been tasked with mandatory community service by the shadowy, secretive Town Council. Guided by the Council's mysterious spokesperson known only as "Wendy,"who I also play, the citizens start to realize their small town is not quite as normal or safe as they originally believed. Using new found coworkers, or dare I say friends?, can anyone see past the distractions to the bigger mystery, before it's too late?

Welcome to Reddington is a multi-narrative, audio improv podcast uniquely using Evil Hat's Monster of the Week's gaming system as guided improv. While we do roll dice, we edit to focus more on storytelling. In other words, you won't find dice rolls or game system talk here.

The episode you're about to listen to is Mystery 8.5, Part III, The He-Man Prophecies - Tendril, Love, and Care. Normal male human werewolf CiCi Stratos is putting together a team of fighters to go save their friend Flergie, the three eyed psychic green tiger who they've recently learned is still alive, though trapped in a laboratory. The last episode of this mystery ended with CiCi eating a magical rice krispy treat made by Nilus that's having some strange side effects. Enjoy!

2023 Showcase: The Chronicles of Wild Hollow

2023 Showcase: The Chronicles of Wild Hollow

"Hi, my name is Christian Powlesland, and alongside co-creator Harvey Badger, we make The Chronicles of Wild Hollow. It’s a musical fantasy adventure series, with epic set-piece drama, oddball comedy, a cinematic orchestral score and original songs throughout. Oh, and all of our characters are talking animals.

Our first two releases in 2021 and 2022 were trilogies beginning the main story of our show, each following a separate protagonist - Fandango Boursin, the mouse bounty hunter, and Artemis Gray, the fox smuggler. This year, however, we were excited to do something a bit different. We wrote Wild Hollow Shorts, a six-part miniseries where each episode, we focused on a different character or location from the main show, and put them centerstage. We were able to play around with different narrative devices, as well as shine additional light on some of our favourite characters.

The episode we’re submitting to the Audio Verse Awards this year is called The Stork and the King. It was our final instalment in the Wild Hollow Shorts series, released in April 2023, and focuses on a mother telling her daughter a bedtime story. We wanted to give Wild Hollow its own origin story, so we wrote this in the style of a fable, giving a mythical insight of how this epic land may have come to be.

All music you hear in this episode was composed by myself. I also did the sound design. I want to very quickly thank Eleanor Kane and Heather Gourdie for their voice work in this episode.

Hope you enjoy."

2023 Showcase: Back Again, Back Again

2023 Showcase: Back Again, Back Again

"Hello! My name is Abigail Eliza. I wear all the hats for Back Again, Back Again – if there’s something happening in the show, that’s me doing it!

Back Again, Back Again is a narrative portal fantasy about ex-prophecy children, the end of adventures, and queer girls with swords. It follows the story of Ilyaas, who, on the night of her seventeenth birthday, gets portal-magicked away to a world called Rhysea – where she is told that she is part of a prophecy to save the country. The podcast picks up at the traditional end of all ""portal fantasy"" stories: prophecy completed, Ilyaas must readjust to the ""real world"" while still remembering everything she's seen.

This is season two, episode four – Nonbeliever. In this episode, the king’s palace has just been raided by the rebels (called the fretim in the show), rescuing Ilyaas and Rhia. However, Ilyaas has spent the entirety of the first season on the side of the kings due to a lack of information and an inability to understand the common language, Rhysean, something that also comes up a lot in this episode. Ilyaas, who mostly speaks English, is having to work all of her thoughts into a language she is, objectively, pretty shit at. Callia, who speaks not only Rhysean but a few of its dialects, has very little patience for this, especially as she mostly still views Ilyaas as a traitor. Ilyaas thinks Callia is a part of the big prophecy in Rhysea. Callia doesn’t really think of Ilyaas at all, if she can help it.

The Rhysean that you hear happening in the show – especially in this episode – is a conlang that I created for the sake of the show. As someone who works in foreign language learning and teaching, the politics of language are everywhere, and it’s really cool to be able to explore them in a fantasy world.

Thank you so much for listening – or, as we say in Rhysea, gratinoc!"
