Today we are announcing the 2021 Spring Suite of Autoptic Presents. On Friday of this week, May 21st, we’ll be releasing a great series of conversations that will spotlight the sorts of artist, cartoonists, and educators you're likely to find at the Autoptic Festival.

We will be releasing Autoptic presents in an audio format on our Autoptic Podcast feed and in a video format on our YouTube channel.

Shira Spector is a Jewish Canadian lesbian cartoonist whose work has been widely anthologized and exhibited in the Toronto area, where she resides. She has a BFA in Fibres (with Distinction) from Concordia University in Montreal. Her debut graphic memoir, Red Rock Baby Candy, paints a vivid portrait of the most eventful 10 years of her life, encompassing her tenacious struggle to get pregnant, the emotional turmoil of her father’s cancer diagnosis and eventual death, and her recollections of past relationships with her parents and her partner.

Leomi Sadler is a member of the Famicon artist group alongside Stef Sadler, GHXYK2 and Kitty Clark, with uncle Jon Chandler. A cult figure in the alternative comics scene for over a decade, with her brother Stef, she runs the critically acclaimed publisher Famicon Express and is co-editor of the Mould Map anthology series alongside Hugh Frost of Landfill Editions.

With a core practice of drawing and comics, her artistic tendrils continue to extend into the worlds of fashion and contemporary art. She has exhibited her sculptural works internationally, and has recently collaborated with brands such as Braindead, Gasius, Heresy and Givenchy.

Her biggest book so far, Tummy Bugs, was recently published by Breakdown Press, the first in a library series, each one packaging up a unique module of her multifaceted approach to story and image-making.

Keiler Roberts makes autobiographical comics. She is the recipient of the Slate Cartoonist Studio Prize for Chlorine Gardens and is the author of Powdered Milk, Happy Happy Baby Baby, Miseryland, Rat Time, and Sunburning which was translated into Spanish as Isolada. Also the winner of the Ignatz Award, she teaches comics at The School of The Art Institute in Chicago.

Joshua W. Cotter’s debut graphic novel, Skyscrapers of the Midwest, was nominated for an Ignatz award in 2005. He is currently at work on a multi-volume science fiction epic, Nod Away, which takes place in a near-future alternate reality, that moves back and forth between physical and psychological worlds. The second volume is due out September of 2021. He lives in rural northwest Missouri with his family and cats with an acute sense of impending mortality. They keep him making comics.

Trung Le Nguyen, also known as Trungles, is a Vietnamese-American comic book artist and storyteller from Minnesota. He was born in a refugee camp somewhere in the Philippine province of Palawan.

Trung has contributed work for Oni Press, Boom! Studios, and Image Comics, largely in the romance genre. His first original graphic novel, The Magic Fish, is due out October 13, 2020 through Random House Graphic, an imprint of Penguin Random House.

Trung currently lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raises three very spoiled hens. He is particularly fond of fairy tales, kids’ cartoons, and rom-coms of all stripes.

Pixin (or Pix for short) was born and raised in sunny Singapore. She loves to draw, sew, make comics, tell stories, paint, create and construct using found objects. Pixin grew up listening to stories from her father, who was curious about the way the world works. In turn, when it comes to her art, Pixin loves to create semi-autobiographical comics that reflect her curious nature too.

Pascal Girard was born in Jonquière, QC, in 1981. He began filling his notebook with drawings on his very first day of school and never stopped. Since he was unable to rid himself of this habit, he naturally decided to make it his career. Girard is the award-winning author of Nicolas, Bigfoot, Reunion, and Petty Theft. He lives in Montreal.

Blue Delliquanti is a comic artist and writer based in Minneapolis, MN. From 2012 to 2020 Blue drew and serialized the Prism Award-winning science fiction comic O Human Star at ohumanstar.com. Blue is also the co-creator of the graphic novel Meal (with Soleil Ho), published through Iron Circus Comics, and The ‘Stan (with David Axe and Kevin Knodell), published through Dead Reckoning. They teach comics courses at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

Together with his brothers Gilbert and Mario, co-created the award-winning comic book series Love and Rockets.  He is best known for his Locas stories, which follow the exploits (romantic and platonic) of his original characters, Maggie and Hopey. Love and Rockets has evolved into one of the great bodies of American literary fiction, spanning four decades and countless high-water marks in the medium’s history. In 2017, Jaime was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame, has won innumerable comics awards, and was the 2014 winner of The Los Angeles Times Book Prize. His upcoming 2021 book is Queen of the Ring, a collection of his original women’s wrestling drawings created over the past 40 years.
