Melissa Ayre – CEO, Roycorp Pty Ltd
When I finished high school, I dived into a combined business and law degree. I always wanted to study business and I decided to do the law course as I got the results to do law as well. University was a hard slog and I worked in a small law firm during my university years to get experience. In fact, sometimes I worked up to three jobs to get through university. I fully intended on having a great career and then throwing it in the bin once I had children. When I was in my twenties, I couldn’t fathom how you could be successful in your career and still be a mother. In hindsight, that willingness to let my career go, was one of the best decisions that I could have ever made. The night before the podcast, my eight year old son wanted me to tell him a story before bed. I told him that I needed to prepare for a podcast that I was doing tomorrow. I had to explain what a podcast was and told him that I would talk about my career. He said “like North Korea!”? I love the minds of children! Website | LinkedIn | Facebook Talking to Melissa on this Podcast we discussed how along our career we take with us the learnings of each employer to the next position. Not just in our careers, but in life. Appreciate the small things because one day, they will become the things that matter.

Naomi Cassimatis – Qualified Carpenter
Throughout high school I did all the manual arts classes I could as I enjoyed it and was good at it, it also boosted my confidence as I didn’t do so well at Home Economics. But my first real glimpse into a future in construction, was as I grew up. My Mother worked in a quarry driving frontend loaders and soil testing showing me anything was possible. After my pre-apprenticeship course (which I aced) I still didn’t have an apprenticeship to roll into when all the guys had multiple option before finishing their pre-apprenticeship course. This was the first major hurdle I face in the industry, no one willing to hire an adult female apprentice. I made many calls, sent in many applications, and even offered a day’s free labour just to get a foot in the door, then finally was offered two apprenticeships on the same day within an hour of each other. I chose to go with Q-Build and guarantee my 4 years. Since completing my apprenticeship, I have worked in a variety of roles where I have learnt a variety of skills along the way. Cascie Kambouris, Founder of The Hope Initiative
‘I know. I have been there. I have had to make some hard choices. And with each hard choice came consequences. It is these choices that I don’t want anyone else in a vulnerable position to have to make and I know you don’t either –a mother shouldn’t have to choose to buy a loaf of bread or sanitary products for her daughter, to feed many hungry mouths or a roof over their head. This is where The Hope Initiative fits in. If you and The Hope Initiative can take one thing out of their equation so that the person in need has one less choice to make, then we have helped. Each bracelet represents humanity. It is designed to inspire you to continually do good for humanity, the very reason we are here. The quotes are powerful reminders to keep going, you can do this, we all have bad days and need a little help just like those vulnerable in our society. I have hit rock bottom, several times and never want to experience it again. The Hope Initiative is something big for me. It puts a jump in my step, and I want that for you too. I want you to feel you are making a difference by reducing the number of hard choices in the life of someone in need’. Hope Initiative is a beacon of light for those in need, and the inspiration for those that can help and make a difference. Facebook | Instagram | Website | LinkedIn Talking to Cascie on this Podcast was great as we talked about how The Hope Initiative began and how it is giving back to the local community.

An accident caused a severe brain injury, leaving Brian unable to walk or talk, and for the next 11 years he was forced to live in a long-term rehabilitation facility. “We knew this wasn’t the right place for Brian but there was no alternative. Youngcare is changing that. Brian was able to move into the Youngcare Share House which has taken a weight off the family’s shoulders, knowing he is being cared for, but is also living how he wants to in his own home. Without the generosity of the individuals who support Youngcare, Brian would not be living the young life he deserves,” Brian’s sister, Tash Sharp Facebook | LinkedIn | Instagram | Website Talking to Tash on this Podcast will make us all remember how important family is and why we need to get young people out of aged care ASAP!
