#21 - Tara Thomas Couples Therapist on how the Patriarchy lives within your Relationship, Gendered Relationship Roles and how She Challenges these

Charging up the show on this episode of A Woman Charged Podcast...

Anna speaks with Neurodiverse Couples Therapist Tara Thomas who offers couples therapy online or face-to-face for "misfits, rebels and weirdos" and those who take a non-conservative approach to love & life.

She’s been coaching, writing, and speaking about relationships for almost a decade. She’s a fortnightly guest on ABC Newcastle Mornings with Kia Handley where they’ve been talking about all things love & relationships since 2019.

Not only does Tara work to improve the lives of couples around Australia, but also acknowledges the Patriarchy within those dynamics, because why not?! It's part of our lives, whether we want it there or not. And gendered roles?! Don't even get us started!

Listen in as Tara offers tips for all different types of couples, explains her methods to live an authentic life, not a life which has been conventionally laid out for us since birth.

Her ethos is to learn how to live and thrive within Patriarchy - it's here but we don't have to be defined by it, and neither do our relationships. Never heard of an Anti-Capitalist Coach before? This is therapy on a new level to help us live within Capitalism whilst also pushing back on Capitalism...

#18 - Zoe Simmons on Invisible Disabilities, Using Mobility Aids as a Young Person, and Her Upcoming Book on the Black Summer Bushfires of 2019/2020

Charging up the show on this episode of A Woman Charged Podcast... Anna interviews Writer and Disability Advocate Zoe Simmons, who wants to raise awareness about the realities of being disabled and living with an invisible illness and all the barriers that come with these conditions.

She wants to tell listeners that… invisible illness exists! And to encourage change, and to help others going through the same thing, to know that they aren’t alone. And that life can still be beautiful, even when you’re in pain. And although she doesn’t want to appear like and I quote “inspiration porn” she does want to show other disabled people that they can still kick butt – it might just look a little different, and take a little longer.

To get these messages across, Zoe works as a writer both in the traditional sense of the word and as an experienced journalist who’s been published hundreds of times across media outlets including news.com.au, the Daily Mail, Kidspot, Popsugar, Mamamia, the Sydney Morning Herald, the New York Post and That’s Life and New Idea magazines and the list goes on — Zoe certainly knows how to captivate audiences through the raw power of storytelling.

Mobility aids are not a tragedy! And some young people have to use them. So consider your everyday ableism, next time you see someone who is in a wheelchair and you wonder why, or when you discover someone you know is in chronic pain, but you have never realised and you fail to see how they have been suffering all this time... And Zoe is here to tell us why.

#12 - Audrey Aura on Making a Living From OnlyFans, Plus Size Body Positivity and her OnlyFans Academy

#12 - Audrey Aura on Making a Living From OnlyFans, Plus Size Body Positivity and her OnlyFans Academy

Audrey Aura is a Plus-Size OnlyFans content creator, making over $38,000 AUD per month.

23 year old Audrey Aura from Adelaide talks about her work as an empowering job that needs to be destigmatised and she now helps other OnlyFans creators, new and experienced, break through the uncertainty and self-doubt when it comes to being adult content creator with her new OnlyFans coaching course - The Audrey Aura Academy.

The aim: so more women can become successful, financially independent, and grow to be their best boss bitch selves, with her new ultimate masterclass from the Audrey Aura Academy.

Gen Zers like Audrey, don’t understand why using your body to make money is so stigmatised. For the most part they have grown up in a world where they have had a range of sizes, shapes, ethnicities, abilities available to them as role models.

So for her, stepping into the world of OnlyFans might just have felt as natural as going from A to B and the only way she realised that millennials and Gen X’ers don’t feel like that, has come from all the media attention that she has had recently had over her success and huge earnings.

And let me tell you, some of those interviews have been awkward! See her Studio 10 interview here which she and Anna discussed during the pod.

So listen in to hear what she thinks about OnlyFans, online confidence, safety for women and what it’s like to have a beautiful fat bank balance at the end of the month…

#11 - Khadija Gbla on White Saviourism, The Husband Stitch, The Rise of Labio Plasty, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and What You Can Do To Stop It In Australia

Charging up the show this week... Anna welcomes the sensational Khadija Gbla on to the show, to discuss her experience as a victim of and her activism for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Listen in as Khadija explains how this terrible form of child abuse and gender-based violence is actually taking place on Australian shores

Khadija explains her own journey towards pleasure as a woman who had had her clitoris cut from her as an innocent nine year old girl, and comments on society's default position, not only on race, religion and gender, but also on clitoric-centric assumptions.

Listen in to her comments after Anna sent her a clitoral air-pulsing vibrator and question your own able-bodied assumptions about sex. Hear what she has to say about Labioplasty in Australia - not just for consenting women, but also for unconsenting children.

Be confronted by the truths she conveys over White Saviourism and why she wants to move away from the stereotypical view of FGM victims as being non-white, non-Christian, non-Anglo Australian.

Mentioned in the podcast:

Khadija Gbla now advocates for change in these areas through her work as Director for Ending Female Genital Mutilation Australia with Plan International and teaches workshops and seminars for professionals in order to educate them on prevention, care and treatment of FGM.

Be brave and listen to the episode and reach out to Khadija for training requests or advice. You may safe a little girl from a lifetime of shame and health complications...

#10 - Sally Branson Dalwood on The Suite Set, Women's Personal Vs Privates Selves, and Why Ego Has Everything To Do With It

Charging up the show this week... Anna interviews Sally Branson Dalwood. Sally is an entrepreneur and founder of The Suite Set, a set of signature hospital bag organisers that are mindfully made to pack everything parents will need to take into the hospital to give birth.

She is a also a PR and crisis management consultant, ex-parliament and government consultant and now, after 5 years, is still settling into life as a mum… and deciding what motherhood means to her. A far cry from the male-dominated environments she was used to in her former career.

Essentially this episode is about women's identities, and how we metamorphosise from individual women to either embracing, or rejecting conventional stereotypes of what a mother is... or should be. It's a constant juggle between professional and private selves.

For mums, it can often feel like we are two very different people in the home and then busting a gut at work and being the badass biz babe we have always dreamed of. Sally has some tips on how to be both, or neither - how to be yourself!

Ego appears to be the word of the episode, and was discussed frequently when trying to assess and analyse big decisions women make in life. Have you ever considered your own ego before when reviewing decisions? Does ego get in the way and add to the challenge of swapping our push-up bras for nursing boulder-holders?

So listen as we discuss our metamorphosis into motherhood, Sally describing her descent from helicopters on to moving war vessels (yes that is actually what she used to fucking do - compare that to folding laundry in the spare room?), how much we came to rely on our mothers groups, despite being pretty opposed to joining one.

Please enjoy.

#9 - Demi Lynch on The Nasty Woman Club, Body Positivity, Social Media and the Effects of its Long-Term Use on Her Generation

Charging up the show this week... Legendary Intersectional Feminist Media Outlet Founder Demi Lynch joins Anna in the studio. Demi is the Founder, Podcaster, Writer, Editor, Producer, Content Creator (and more) of The Nasty Woman Club - a podcasting and media service offering up-to-date news on current affairs from Australia and around the world through a feminist lens.

Yes Demi single handedly created an inclusive, intersectionally-feminist and positive platform for people to use whilst also serving them accurate, well-researched and current news.

She has battled and documented her own struggles with burnout, depression, body confidence in order to affirm those who follow her with the same struggles and girl has she smashed it!

We would love her to comment on most things in the public eye today, including our own personal lives - we trust her opinion that much - but today we are asking her about social media and its effects on her and her peers as Gen Z’ers and how we generally think about body image, body positivity and how we teach this appropriately to our children.

We assumed Demi was going to talk about Gen Z as having an epidemic of body confidence, and body shaming issues, but actually, news flash: it’s millennial women who have that body-related shame ingrained into us. And Demi is here to tell us that we are seemingly the last generation of women in the Developed World who experienced that.

So take a listen and see if you agree, let us know how these generational differences affect your own life and start following her platform because it really is redefining the way we consume news.

#8 - Stacey June on Millennial Women, Generational Pressure, Burnout, High Expectations and why we CANNOT have it all

#8 - Stacey June on Millennial Women, Generational Pressure, Burnout, High Expectations and why we CANNOT have it all

Charging up the show for the final time this year... Stacey June joins Anna in the studio to discuss her book Single Pringle, her past trauma and how she reframed the word failure in order to turn experiences into her strengths. And why, as she explains, Millennial Women are constantly left feeling burnt out, like they have completely failed - and guess what, it's not our fault!

We’re constantly being told by our mothers' generation, we're whingers, we ask for too much, we’re moody, we’re privileged, we have it all, asking why are we complaining? And when we try to fall asleep at night and pick apart our 'failures' of a day, we wonder what WE did wrong...? Does this resonate with you?

As the creator and co-host of the successful podcast and radio show The Thinkergirls, Stacey wanted to use her role as a broadcaster and TV presenter to dedicate helping people access their intuition and feel good about their authentic selves. So she now directs all of her energy into her coaching business and membership program built for women to find practical ways to get in touch with their intuition, their truth and lead lives that are fulfilling, honest and courageous.

Listen in as Anna picks apart the Millennial psyche, wedged in between a Gen Z world, apparently abundant career opportunities and the expectations of the Boomers who raised us, but who still seek to critique us and categorise us by gender - because that is exactly what happened to them.

Send Anna and Stacey a voice note if you have ever felt like this... It's a constant uphill battle!

And for the last time in 2021, as always, stay charged!

#7 - Lucy Wood on Eating Disorders, Our Cycles, Women's Intuition and the Importance of Taking a Step Back

Charging up the show this week, Lucy Wood joins me in the studio to talk body confidence, body image and eating disorders.

Lucy describes herself as an avid communicator and loves delving into deep conversations that attempt to deconstruct some of the intricate social constructs and restraints that we feel within society.

Our bodies are sending us messages all the time! But we aren't always equipped with the tools to be able to pick these up, or know exactly what they mean. Lucy gives advice and tips to people looking to connect on a deeper level with themselves, their identities and their psyches, in order to live happier and healthier! #6 - Lucy Lube Co-Founder Claire Colclough on Sex Positivity For Women, Her Slippery Wet Personal Lubricant Start-Up and the Dreaded Vaginal Dryness

#6 - Lucy Lube Co-Founder Claire Colclough on Sex Positivity For Women, Her Slippery Wet Personal Lubricant Start-Up and the Dreaded Vaginal Dryness

Charging up the show this week, Claire Colclough, co-founder of Australia’s newest personal lubricant brand Lucy Lube, joins Anna in the studio to discuss all things that slip’n’slide and to find out the inspiration behind this amazing feminist start-up that she runs - all the while cramming in her full-time corporate job in Melbourne and oh yeah... life!

Claire is an advocate for great sexual health and is passionate about reducing the shame and stigma felt by women in the pursuit of sexual wellness. She is presenting a virtual interactive workshop in collaboration with the Vulva Dialogues on Thursday 18th of November 2021 - see details HERE to attend.

Lubricant for women is key to excellent sexual health and fantastic sexual pleasure. With vaginal dryness such a common problem today, roughly 17% of women in Australia will experience it, and this number increases to 43% of women in the first six months postpartum and 50% of perimenopausal women. A lack of lubrication can lead to vaginal burning and irritation and, most commonly, painful sex and the dreaded thrush!

#5 - Sex Therapist Vanessa Tarfon on Renovating Your Body, Everything You Should Have Learned and Reclaiming Your Best Sex Life

Charging up this week, Anna talks to Vanessa Tarfon, a Qualified Sex Therapist and Founder of Authentic Awareness, who helps busy, tired mums who feel anxious, guilty and embarrassed by their missing sexual identity and desire.

But Vanessa is also a sleep-deprived mum of two young boys, who is exactly like us and is not afraid nor does she feel vulnerable to show that and to talk about that with clients and with other women.

Listen in as she talks frankly about the many personal, relatable, confusing, laughable and sad moments mothers feel before, during and after becoming a mummy. Be fascinated as Vanessa explores how something as simple as touch, can invoke such terrible and triggering feelings for women post-birth.

Was this you?

Vanessa is truly paving the way for women’s sex positivity for modern women. We didn’t get enough of this growing up, from education or from our parents. She is addressing “everything we should have learned”.

We're renovating our mother-fucking bodies... Literally!

Vanessa offers so many nuggets of gold and take aways for women that we know you will agree, can be put in to practice in our sex lives. #4 - Keesha Booth, Talks PreBaby Bodies, Intentional Celibacy, Single Motherhood and Life With Fabulous Pussy Power!

#4 - Keesha Booth, Talks PreBaby Bodies, Intentional Celibacy, Single Motherhood and Life With Fabulous Pussy Power!

Charging up the show this week, Sexological Educator Keesha Booth joins Anna in the Studio. Keesha helps women and young people navigate sex education and their sexual awakening through education so they can become more confident and free when forming their sense of sexual selves.

She is based in Townsville (North Queensland), where she is a single mother to Zion and Zan and teaches groups of tweens and teens about relationships, consent, porn, sex, gender expectations and all the in-between conversations young people are all thinking but critically - not discussing.

Her experience of sexual assault when she was 9 and 12 has been her motivating driver in using sex positive education as a prevention model to relationship abuse & violence for young people. So now she is passionate about using pleasure centric principles into her Sex Education sessions and (self-professed), has fabulous pussy power!

Ok so this will interest some of you... Keesha is now embarking on a new project to better affirm and empower single mothers. She wants to move away from the victimhood ideology that stands behind the term ‘single mother’ and to move from surviving to thriving and to empowerment. She’s starting local in Townsville but most definitely going National to keep your eyes out for this program in the future.

During the episode. we discussed that Clementine Ford book ‘Fight Like A Girl’ which has been difficult to read, for both of us, as well as many other women, but which made us reassess many aspects of our lives with a new feminist lens.

We discuss pre-baby body bounce backs and what that really means and how we really feel about them. And we discuss teenagers and how she deals with being seen as an “old 32 year old” by her students, keeping up with their Gen Z linguo to make sure she stays super “dripp”...?

We do touch on sexual assault throughout this episode for any one who experiences trauma surrounding past sexual assault, please be aware of this and do seek help from 1800 RESPECT (that’s 1800 737 732) if you are concerned over your mental health and your trauma and would like to seek help.

#3 - *Trigger Warning* The Mindful Doctor on Reporting Historical Child Sex Abuse, Sleeping Arrangements and Contraceptive Pill For Girls

#3 - *Trigger Warning* The Mindful Doctor on Reporting Historical Child Sex Abuse, Sleeping Arrangements and Contraceptive Pill For Girls

Charging up this week, Anna invites practising GP Gabrielle Staniforth, Founder of The Mindful Doctor on the show for some real perspective on Women's Health in 2021. We candidly discuss how women are presenting to her across the generations and how Gabby believes her care is important now but also "across a lifetime"

Gabby's account of life as a female GP in 2021, is a window into the psyche of women and girls in a new age: an age where talking about sexuality, gender, sexual pleasure and pain for women are acceptable. It is an age where there are medical professionals like Gabby who exist to encourage this new way of feeling, thinking, doing with regards to our bodies, our confidence, relationships and our health.

And continuing with this will only have positive consequences for society and for women and girls navigating a vastly changing landscape in the digital age.

Aside from her professional journey, her personal story is a tale of resilience, growth and success. Between nursing degrees, relocating across state boundaries, her husband's two cancer diagnoses, her medical degree and her 20 IVF cycles (no that's not a typo), Gabby shows great strength in self-acceptance and by placing realistic expectations upon herself on a daily basis.

*TRIGGER WARNING*

Now as Gabby navigates reporting historical sex abuse committed against her when she was a child, she lays bare her life, her struggles and her coping techniques for her patients to use and share as she continues her journey.

Plus we also discuss the fun stuff! Do you and your partner still sleep in the same bed? Are you happy without having any sexual activity in your relationship? Will you be supportive when your 15 year old daughter asks for the contraceptive pill? There's nothing off limits in this episode...

#2 - Arileigh Russell Fit on Bullying, The Male Gaze And Those Caravan Years - It's Project Unf*ck Yourself!

#2 - Arileigh Russell Fit on Bullying, The Male Gaze And Those Caravan Years - It's Project Unf*ck Yourself!

Anna charges up her new podcast by talking with Arileigh Russell: a Women's Lifestyle & Transformation Coach and Model who educates & empowers women by helping them transform their fitness and bodies with her course, completed by hundreds of women - Project Unf*ck Yourself.

But Ari's origins weren't always so empowering or glamorous. Growing up the only girl in a family of strict gender stereotypes, living below the poverty line in a caravan and tent for over a year, Ari grabbed success by the boobs when she started her own Lifestyle & Fitness Transformation business. She now uses those terrible times as motivation and drive in her daily life and business. Her experiences of bullying, slut-shaming and misogyny are sure to relate to any woman growing up in the 21st century and we are so thankful to her for candidly sharing her story.

Listen in as she and Anna discuss how Ari changed her personal circumstances by daring to start up her business at just 18 years old in the male-dominated fitness and strength conditioning industry. Now by monetising the male gaze, her expertise and knowledge, she complements her income with OnlyFans, runs Project Unf*ck Yourself as well as pop-up education nights for women, and advocates that platforms like this are giving women the chance to truly own their own bodies.
