Episode #25 | The Upside Down

The Bad Buddhism Podcast

Episode #26 | The Obsolete
In this episode we deal with the postmodern worldview, specifically the,  "theoretical questions about textual authority." Postmodernist make a few arguments predicated on: Claims that words have no meaning. Claims that there is no objective truth. Although the postmodern worldview is hard to articulate, I deal with this worldview in this podcast to the best of ability.  I use the book "Beyond Opinion" by Ravi Zacharias to navigate these tough questions.

Episode #24 | Exposing The Biggest Hoax On Earth
Fear. Fear is the biggest hoax on the earth. Yeah, I wasn't going to leave you in suspense with this clickbait title. lol. But yes, in this episode, we explore to what extent this hoax has ruined and is currently ruining peoples lives by pulling a veil of illusion over their face.  We also talk about how to manage our mental health in a practical way during this pandemic. Many of us in the USA are marooned. Unemployment is high but for some, morale is low. I talk about the importance of building something that is important to you. I also emphasize trying to build something that will reap you financial security. You might as well take the leap. What do you have to lose? Episode #23 | Paradigm Shifts: The Importance Of Changing Our Thinking
The other day I came across a post from a young lady educating her timeline on botany. She showed us a plant with a withered leaf. This leafs dilapidated state is due to redistribution of nutrients to a new leaf that is in the early stages of growth. This made me think of paradigm shifts. Pulling nutrients from a full grown, worn out leaf, the plant prioritizes the younger leaf for new growth. In other words, one part of the plant has to die in order for another part for it to grow. In that moment I had an epiphany. One part of us has to die in order for another part to grow. Paradigm shifts are necessary in order for us to experience growth in all aspects of our lives. Many of us hold onto old ways of doing things. Without considering a shift in paradigm, we end up stagnating as a whole. Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result. This is how we humans operate. We operate out of a force of habit that becomes stagnation and void of any growth. Taking a birds eye view of our lives helps us see where we are withered. We need to realize that this is the prime opportunity to make a paradigm shift for growth. Redistribution of the nutrients of our attention allows for growth in all areas of our lives. In this podcast, I’m going to talk extensively about paradigm shifts and why they are important. A paradigm is a “pattern.” It is a framework that may be used for many different applications. Paradigms exist in many different contexts but the context we are going to be speaking about here is the context of life, of personal development and how it relates to our growth in many facets of life. A paradigm shift is a movement away from the old models. It’s a movement away from the old frameworks. These frameworks might consist of the traditional way of doing things because they are no longer applicable to the current culture and society as a whole. Paradigm shifts are the ridding of the old and moving to a framework that may not necessarily be “new,” per se but practical for a specific context. Ryan Little - sunkissed. Episode #22 | The Lamp Of Your Body: What You Focus On Is Reflected Within
In this episode we explore Luke 11:33-36 & The Dhammapada to highlight the effect that focus has on our spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health.  This podcast mainly deals with attention. Our attention creates our reality by way of perpetuation of the things we focus on.  We live in a world where content is the main focus of our attention. I address the benefits of giving attention to wholesome content.  When we value our attention we improve the health of our being. The "lamp" of our body can be interpreted as the five senses which is the same as the content we give our attention to. In other words, our attention mirrors the content therefore showing up within our beings.  The attention we give to whatever we are focusing on colors the perception of our past, present and future. This is important to understand because our past experiences can be looked at in a healing light or a further damaging, traumatic perspective. Therapists know the value of attention and they use it to reshape and recolor the narrative of the dialogue or the "lamp" within. We also explore what attraction is within the context of dating. Many of us betray ourselves by not using our attention to attract the the success and people that we want. We use our attention unknowingly to draw experiences that we don't want to live. In this segment, we define attraction and apply it to the context of not only dating but for personal success as well. Episode #21 | The Uncanny Valley
In this episode we explore "The Uncanny," specifically as it relates to A.I. and Robotics. The Uncanny Valley is the chasm which we approach and enter into as robots become increasingly reminiscent of human beings in their likeness.  We start off by exploring the background of the uncanny as it relates it its pioneers. Pop culture references such as The Twilight Zone and Black Mirror were explored in this podcast as well. “What is the uncanny? For Freud, the uncanny locates the strangeness in the ordinary and can also be repressed material from childhood. The uncanny, as psychoanalytic theorist Jacques Lacan states is "in the field where we do not know how to distinguish bad and good, pleasure from displeasure", resulting in an irreducible anxiety that gestures to the Real.” The uncanny is that part of us that sees something that triggers the repressed material from our subconscious causing it to jump to the surface at a moments notice. The Uncanny is a strange place. It presents itself to us in many different contexts. But contrary to what many believe about the uncanny, we don’t have to fear it. The uncanny can be used to stimulate many of our creative pursuits. Episode #19| The Shadow Of God: A Jungian Interpretation Of The Book Of Job
In yet another challenging podcast, I present my enthusiasm for a fresh perspective on the shadow archetype within the God of the book of Job via the controversial work, "Answer To Job" by Carl Jung. The Shadow Archetype is the repressed version of ourselves. Many of us leave the Shadow Archetype in the dark to fester. When this Shadow Archetype isn’t given room to express itself, it can cause much of the problems we see in our day to day lives. In Answer To Job, we see the Shadow Archetype play out in the book of Job through Carl Jungs Analytical Psychology. If you want to learn more about the Shadow Archetype, be sure to check our episode 12.5 where we discuss Carl Jungs 4 major archetypes including the Shadow Archetype.

Episode #18| The Echo Chamber: Mechanisms Of The Decline Of Civil Discourse
This was a very challenging episode for me to do because it is such a broad topic despite how specific the title appears. In this episode we attempt to tackle the problem of the decline of civil discourse through the reasoning of a psychological lens. First we approach it with a potential solution, then we work backwards toward the origin of the issue.  Most importantly, we talk about what happens to the individual throughout all of this and how they are effected.
