The Bad Wilf Podcast

The Bad Wilf Podcast

By Bad Wilf

Bad Wilf launched in 2010, as a South London-based Doctor Who podcast. Over the years it has evolved into so much more. We cover movies, TV shows, audio dramas, news, reviews, interviews and general nonsense, we used to do it under the influence of alcohol. But we're old now, so we drink decaf tea.

Professor Dave tribute
Professor Dave tribute
Here in podcast land, we lost one of our own recently. David Keep from Professor Dave's Ark in Space sadly passed away last week. Dave was loved in our community, a true unsung hero of the genre.  This is a re-upload from 2010, where Dave and his future wife, Elizabeth. Joined us to discuss the Doctor Who episode Midnight.  As this episode is nearly 13 years old, the sound quality may not be up to today's standards. But this is a very important episode for us here at Bad Wilf Towers, as Martyn explains in a newly recorded intro.  Our thoughts go out to Elizabeth. We love you, Dave.

Episode 248: Sophie Aldred Interview
Martyn is joined by Sophie Aldred, they talk about the paperback release of her Doctor Who book 'At Childhood's End'. Past, present and future collide as the Thirteenth Doctor meets classic Doctor Who companion Ace – in the first epic novel from the woman who played her, Sophie Aldred. Once, a girl called Ace travelled the universe with the Doctor – until, in the wake of a terrible tragedy they parted company. Decades later, she is known as Dorothy McShane, the reclusive millionaire philanthropist who heads global organisation A Charitable Earth. And Dorothy is haunted by terrible nightmares, vivid dreams that begin just as scores of young runaways are vanishing from the dark alleyways of London. Could the disappearances be linked to sightings of sinister creatures lurking in the city shadows? Why has an alien satellite entered a secret orbit around the Moon? Investigating the satellite with Ryan, Graham and Yaz, the Doctor is thrown together with Ace once more. Together they must unravel a malevolent plot that will cost thousands of lives. But can the Doctor atone for her past incarnation’s behaviour – and how much must Ace sacrifice to win victory not only for herself but for the Earth? Epsiode 229: talking comedy
Epsiode 229: talking comedy
Martyn, Chris, and Sam are back. This week, they’re talking comedy. But what exactly is comedy and, who decides what’s funny? The dictionary describes comedy as; “professional entertainment consisting of jokes and sketches, intended to make an audience laugh.” But, is that an accurate or relevant description? Your dynamic trio discusses their favourite comedians/influences, such as Lee Evans, Robin Williams, Paul Whitehouse, Shappi Khorsandi and, Dave Chappelle. They also talk about “cancel culture” and ask questions such as “should it be one rule for comedians and one rule for everyone else?” and “what role should context play when telling a joke?” The intro is taking from Dave Chappelle’s 2019 Netflix special ‘sticks & stones’. It was Produced for the Children in Need charity, following Doctor Who's hiatus in 1989 this special was the only dramatisation broadcast in celebration of the show's 30th anniversary.
