Ep. 157 - Access All Areas: The Paddock Club Long Lunch Live From The Van Dieman Brewing Farm.

Ep. 157 - Access All Areas: The Paddock Club Long Lunch Live From The Van Dieman Brewing Farm.

I've got something a bit different for you on this episode. Last weekend 30 odd of us went out to the White Hills just outside of Launceston to have a day out at the Van Dieman Farm and Brewery. Access all areas and a long lunch with like-minded beer lovers, as members of Van Diemans Paddock Club.

This episode is a combination of some interviews I did on the day, Will's "speeches" throughout the day, and my dulcet tones narrating it all!

Enjoy!

Ep. 156 - When Your Guest Cancels Two minutes before the show... With Local Brewing Co's Fucking Legend, Hugo

Ep. 156 - When Your Guest Cancels Two minutes before the show... With Local Brewing Co's Fucking Legend, Hugo

So I get a phone call two minutes before show time, it's Nick from Local Brewing Co. He says he can't make our chat and he is sending in the substitute, Hugo.

All of a sudden, my weeks of research about Nick were thrown out the window, not a great start, I needed to wing it a bit. Next, we start the interview and Hugo calls me Beer Head...f'n hell, this is not going well.

Then, we clicked, and I am not sure that I have laughed as much on a podcast in a while...this got loose!

This is a complex story of craft beer, creating change, giving back, gypsy brewing and unique ideas. But, it's also a lot of fun, and Hugo was a great guest!

I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did!

Ep. 155 - When Retro Vibes & Modern Lifestyles Collide. With Brick Lane CEO, Paul Bowker.

Ep. 155 - When Retro Vibes & Modern Lifestyles Collide. With Brick Lane CEO, Paul Bowker.

Have you been to the supermarket lately? Once upon a time, the displays at the ends of the aisles were filled with chocolates and coca-cola, but these days there is a new player creeping into that space, non-alcoholic beer.

And I am not talking about the stuff that you used to pick up next to the non-alc champagne that you drank at the Christmas table as a kid. Old brands in that space like Holsten or Kaliber are being challenged by a raft of newcomers, brewed by everyone from Heinken and Budweiser, to local craft breweries Upflow and Nort.

Paul Bowker is CEO of Brick Lane Brewing, and they have introduced a new 70's vibe upstart to the category, Sidewinder. When retro vibes and modern lifestyles collide, that's where you will find the new refreshment-inspired non alcoholic beer from Sidewinder.

With these new additions to the lineup, and a category that looks like it is going gangbusters, it seems there is a hell of a lot to talk about. Can Paul convince this Coke Zero and Lime Mineral Water drinker to switch to a non-alc beer...let's see!!

If you want to check out these new beers, go here

Ep. 153 - Lovely Lagers & The Tassie Lifestyle Led Me Here. With The Albert Brewery Head Brewery, JJ King.

Ep. 153 - Lovely Lagers & The Tassie Lifestyle Led Me Here. With The Albert Brewery Head Brewery, JJ King.

Tasmania has a bit of a history with lagers...both of the big guys down have battled for 100 odd years to see who is best. More recently, Tasmanian drinkers have rediscovered their love of lager, brewed by the new wave of craft breweries in this state, and they are liking what they are tasting.

I guess that's why a brewery such as The Albert can afford to model their whole business plan on them...lagers of every colour. I'm not sure if it's because I have done hazy's to death, or that I'm getting grumpy in my old age, but there is something about a lager right now that I am just loving. Add the fact that The Albert has recently pumped out another favourtie of mine, a mid strength lager, and I am, in heaven! The new Albert Blue has been my beer of choice for the last few months down here, and now it seems that you mainlanders are now going to get a taste of it.

Head Brewer, JJ King, has worked his way around a few mainland breweries, and has now settled in Tasmania to brew Lagers at The Albert...enjoy the chat!

Ep. 152 - It's A Family Affair. With Seven Mile Brewing's Head Brewer, Matt Wilson.

The Northern NSW region has a deep brewing history...it's the birthplace of a little brewery called Stone and Wood, you might have heard it? But a few minutes south of that brewery, in Balina, is another one that has now been kicking around for about 4 or 5 years, Seven Mile Brewing...have you heard of that one? Started by a father and son duo in 2017, this is a truly family-run brewery, which sounds totally awesome, buuuut may have also been a bit tricky at times...we get to that! This is a great chat with Matt, where he opens up about how Stone & Wood came to his rescue one time, what he learned from his time with Dave Padden, how 4 Pines helped him understand the business, and some of the personal challenges he has faced along the way. A ripper of a chat! Ep. 151 - 3rd Time (re-branding) is the Charm! With All-Inn Brewing Chief Operating Officer, Luke Phillips.

Ep. 151 - 3rd Time (re-branding) is the Charm! With All-Inn Brewing Chief Operating Officer, Luke Phillips.

One thing I know for sure is that this craft beer industry we love so much doesn't stand still for long. Venues that start off small, blow up, styles that were once a must-have on the tap list have been replaced with the next big thing. And, as breweries mature, they tweak their business models and plans, often resulting in a re-brand.

All-Inn Brewing has been around since 2012, a little suburban brewery that started out as a labour of love for its founder, Harley Goodacre. He has a modest budget and had to do whatever it took to make his dream a reality, repurposing old milk vats and turning a humble shed into a much-loved brewery.

These days, those milk vats have been replaced by shiny stainless, and just in the past few weeks, the beer on shelves has also had a bit of a facelift, which is one of the topics covered in this chat with All-Inn Brewing's COO and Head of Sales, Luke Phillips.

Ep. 150 - What Do You Do When Your Reality Exceeds Your Dreams? With Margaret River Brewhouse Co-Founder, Aaron Brown.

150 Episodes...Whaaat? How did that happen?

When I finished the episode with Aaron, I thanked him for his open and honest chat, and for shedding a light on the other side of starting a brewhouse...the food. Often on these podcasts, we focus on the beer, because that is what we all love. But we also love food, and for brewpubs, you aren't going to be too successful if you can't serve both.

So anyway, that's a long way of saying this chat was really interesting to me and a bit of a breath of fresh air. This is the story of the Margaret River Brewhouse, a little place 3 hours south of Perth in the middle of some of the most breathtaking scenery in this country. It's a story of 3 guys and their partners who had a dream and how they navigated their way through the tough times, the successes, and the decision of what to do once they had achieved the goal the 3 of them set out when they started.

Ep. 149 - From the Great White North to the Red Hot West...a Beer Journey. With Froth Craft Brewery Head Brewer, Tyler Little

Thanks to the wonders of the interwebs, two dudes who love beer, but were 4000km from each other, we able to catch up and talk about their love of...well a lot of different things, and then we got on to the beer!

Tyler Little from Froth Craft Brewery is an all-around great dude, and I thoroughly enjoyed finding out about his journey from British Columbia, Canada to Exmouth, Western Australia...a lazy 13-hour drive North of Perth. The Western Australian Craft Beer scene is spread far and wide, and this is just another example of one of the gems you will find in it if you have the time to go looking.

By the time you listen to this, Tyler will have begun the 13+ hour drive South to Bunbury to begin working on Froth 2.0. Such exciting plans, such an interesting dude...enjoy the chat.

Ep. 148 - Grab a Chair, Mead School Is In Session. With Erosion Meadery Founder, Sean Johnson.

Ep. 148 - Grab a Chair, Mead School Is In Session. With Erosion Meadery Founder, Sean Johnson.

An old mate of mine used to say, "every day is a school day", and this episode proved it to me once again.

On this episode, I have invited Sean Johnson, mead maker at Erosion Meadery and Brewery in Western Australia, to give us a crash course in Mead, Mead 101 if you like

Until I did this interview, I had absolutely no clue about Mead. How about you? To be honest I thought it was just something the Knights of the Round Table drank, because beer hadn't been invented. But then I think I saw them drinking it in that documentary about dragons, Game of Thrones, so thought it must be real! And you know what, it bloody is!!!

But don't listen to me, I am obviously an idiot! But this idiot learned a lot in this episode, and got to taste a few a-grade meads!

Enjoy!!

Ep. 147 - Craft Beer's "Will Smith" introduces us to Rodney the AI2PA. With Barossa Valley Brewing's Co-Founder, Denham D'Silva.

It was gonna take a special guest to get me to put down my beer, change out of my boardies and get back into the studio...that person is Denham D'Silva from Barossa Valley Brewing.

This bloke is an energetic and charismatic craft beer lover who started his journey back in the 90's in the USA. Fast forward 30 years and he has experienced all the ups and the downs that this industry can throw at you...and he stuck with it.

In this interview, he shares his latest ideas: an app called Agora and a beer he co-designed with the amazing team at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning. They collaborated to create a neural network that developed the recipe for "Rodney" the A2IPA.

Artificial Intelligence and Craft Beer...is it the future, well let's see what Craft Beer's "Will Smith" has to say about it!

Enjoy the chat!

Ep. 146 - The Future Of The Oz Craft Beer Industry Is In Good Hands. With Eagle Bay Brewing Co's Head of Marketing, Bronte O'Donoghue.

She is one of the new breed of talented young beer lovers who are entering the craft beer industry, bringing fresh new ideas and a positive attitude that is rather infectious. The industry is getting older, and so are the people who work there. Change is coming fast for this industry, and I, for one, think that if the industry's future is in the hands of people like Bronte O'Donoghue, everything is gonna be great!

Described as an old soul or wise beyond her years, she is quickly blazing an impressive trail through the industry. She started her career at Western Australian OG Brewery, Feral, and now she is Head of Marketing for another iconic brewery, Eagle Bay Brewing Co.

She is a storyteller by trade, and a natural on the mic, two traits that make my job as an interviewer so easy!

Thank you to another outstanding Western Australian, Pia Poynton, for the heads up about this fantastic young marketer.

Enjoy the chat!

Ep. 145 - Made in Mordi! With Braeside Brewing Head Brewer, Charlie Tompson

Ep. 145 - Made in Mordi! With Braeside Brewing Head Brewer, Charlie Tompson

I love hearing beer drinkers argue about which state or region has the best craft beer in the land. Marrickville, Margaret River, Collingwood, Hobart, South Coast NSW, The Gold Coast, Adelaide Hills...every state has a craft beer mecca these days, and it gets me bloody excited!

Personally, I feel like, in recent times, Victoria has really been shouting loudly about having some of the best beer around. Names like Brick Lane, Hawkers, Fixation, Bodriggy, Deeds, Molly Rose, Hop Nation, and Kaiju...the list goes on and on. And recently, I fell across another one to add to that list, Braeside Brewing. About 50 minutes South East on the Nepean is where you will find this little brewery, situated sort of on the banks of the Mordialloc Creek. I've never been there, no idea what the creek looks like, but it sounds charming,

Celebrating their second anniversary recently, Braeside Head Brewer Charlie Thompson joined me to tell me all about the charm of that little creek...and more!

Ep. 144 - Beer From The Valley of Love. With Nigel and Eli from The Welcome Swallow Brewery.

If you have been listening for a while, you know I am a proud Tasmanian and I like to be able to tell the stories from down this way when I can. This one has been coming for a little while, the boys and I have had a bit of back and forth, trying to align our schedules. But, with a cancellation in my ultra-busy weekend social calendar, I was able to find my way to the "Valley of Love" to pay the lads from Welcome Swallow Brewery a visit.

30 odd minutes north of Hobart in the Derwent Valley, in the historic town of New Norfolk, that was the location for this chat. At 10:30 am on Sunday, I sat down and shared a "Morning tea" beer with the founders of the Welcome Swallow brewery and taproom, Nigel Graham and Elias Eichler, to find out more about them.

Short Cut: Come Along & Ride on a Fantastic Voyage, Down South! Nigel Ayling (WLCB) on behalf of the South Coast Ale Trail, NSW.

I was so happy to get a message from Nigel Ayling this week. He asked if he could jump on the podcast and record a Short Cut to tell everyone about a project he is involved with. You may know him as the founder of the Facebook Group, We Love Craft Beer, but in his working life, he is a marketer and always looking to get involved with beer-related projects.

His latest project is the South Coast Ale Trail, and it is a ripper, so I was only too happy to help him promote it!

Short Cut: Something's brewing that will tune your taste buds to MAX! OJ from HPA talks about the new Lupomax Hops & the Beer Cartel Mixed 12 pack using them.

Hop Products Australia and Beer Cartel have teamed up again for another mixed 12 pack of amazing beers, made with some of the best breweries in the land!

This time, instead of featuring a single hop (Eclipse last time), they are showcasing a new hop technology, LUPOMAX. LUPOMAX pellets come in a whole heap of different varieties (click below for more details) and the brewers have had a blast designing beers to showcase the individual hops characteristics that have been turned up to THE MAX with the LUPOMAX process.

I made my way to Hops HQ to catch up with OJ in the boardroom.

Ep. 143 - When Boy Band Dreams Die, Start A Brewery. With the lads from Black Flag Brewing.

Language warning, loud laughter warning, stupidity, and fun warning...geez this interview was a blast.

A few of the OG's of Black Flag, Steve, John and Simon grabbed a few tinnies and their own personal fluffer/bar man and sat down to tell their story with me. I think this was the perfect storm for me with these interviews...a few lads that don't take themselves too seriously want to tell their story, have a few beers, take the piss out of each other, and eventually get to the point.

I hope you enjoy this one, cos I certainly did!!!

Ep. 142 - Call me the King of the Mountain! With King River Brewing's, Nathan Munt.

Ep. 142 - Call me the King of the Mountain! With King River Brewing's, Nathan Munt.

This conversation started months ago at GABS festival in Melbourne. Right before I made a quick escape as the city went into its 50th lockdown, I met a bloke by the name of Nathan Munt and he was peddling some pretty cool beers at his 3x3 in Geoffs Shed. If I remember correctly, it was his Barrel Aged Belgian Tripel that I tasted that day, which was delicious, and I made a mental note that I needed to get him on the podcast.

Fast forward 6 months or so, Melbourne is finally out of that lockdown and things are racing ahead, and that mental note has come back to the surface...buried by many beers back at GABS, and clearly forgotten by me until I saw something pop up in my Insta feed to remind me. Seriously, I need a personal assistant to help me keep track of potential guests.

But anyhooo, we made it in the end and I was really keen to hear more about Nathans brewery, King River Brewing, situated in the Victorian High Country, where, the air is clean, the food is amazing, the people are welcoming and the beer is fresh.

So finally, here is our chat!

Ep. 141 - The Pro, The Protege & The Hack - Life Changing Moments & Lockdown. With Dave Padden (Akasha) & Ben Miller (From Ben).

Ladies and Gents, we're back in the studio for another episode of the Pro, The Protege & The Hack. The last time the 3 of us got together to talk about beer, was back in May as we did a follow-up to our Christmas special. So yeah, we have been kind of shit at keeping up a regular recording schedule. To be honest, Ben and I kinda blame Dave for that, he nearly died this year, but that's a poor excuse. And it's probably not gonna get much better, cos Ben's wife just had a baby, so he is going through all that kid bullshit for the first time. And by bullshit, I mean all the wonderful stuff we get to experience as first-time parents. Enough bullshit, let's get into this. 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Want to help spread the craft beer gospel? •Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube •Rate, Review and Subscribe on Apple Podcasts...click the link on your phone and scroll to the bottom •Or Follow/Subscribe on your favourite podcast player

Ep 139 - Big Blokes With Pints of Pink Beer. Celebrating 5 Years @ Carrum Downs With Dan, Todd & Mark from Dainton Brewery

When a few sample tinnies of D5 turned up from Todd at Dainton, it jogged my memory that I hadn't had the team on the podcast. I'm hopeless like that, I need an assistant to help me plan out the year - otherwise, I am like Dory from Finding Nemo..."a shiny guest over here, great let's chat"...forgetting that I had been arranging a chat for weeks with someone else. For that, I am sorry Dainton, but you made up for it by having 3 of you jump in for this chat!

Yep, on this episode, we have Founder, Dan Dainton, Head of Sales, Todd Barac, and Brewer, Mark Schipano.

Oh yeah, and back to the D5, that beer was brewed to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the brewery at Carrum Downs. In case you didn't know, Dainton has been around a few years longer than that, but I'll let you listen and find out more about it!

Short Cut: For Those of You In Lockdown, This Is For You. A "Quick Catch Up" With Mick O'Rance from Sunday Road Brewing.

Well, this one was going to be a quick chat about the new LG IPA Sunday Road put out to say thanks for the local community support in lockdown, but it could have almost been a full episode!

After the old blokes taled through their challenges with computers and what they used in the past, the chat got on track and we covered a lot of ground, including:

•The geography of the Syndey LGA's
•Getting through lockdown with thanks to the local community support
•The shelf life of high hopped beers
•Beer affogato's
•Having no idea about song copyright laws for beer names
•Cold IPA's
•Dip Hopping
•And, Cryo Hops

I told you we covered some ground! Enjoy this!

Click here to buy the Skinny Dip, Dip Hopped IPA we talk about in the chat.

Ep. 137 - Willingly Forced Into the Magical World of Wild Ales. With Black Arts Beer's, Josh & Chelsie.

That's how Black Arts Brand Manager Chelsie Mew describes her introduction to Wild Ales with her husband, Head Brewer, Josh Murnane. That was a few years ago, and she must have loved it because now this dynamic duo throws everything into their brewing and blending operation. Well, that is, in between building a house, working in their regular jobs, and navigating yet another Melbourne lockdown.

Chelsie and Josh are such a fun couple, and in this chat, we dive in and out of a whole bunch of topics:

•Josh's technique for blending
•The power of Chelsie's "Punters Palate"
•The opportunities to tell great stories within the magical world of wild ales
•And, the power of a peer review system that doubles as an exclusive beer club!

All of this and Josh dumbs down the art of blending to help me understand some of the magic!

Ep. 136 - Wind Him Up & Let Him Go! With Hawkers Beer CEO & Founder, Mazen Hajjar.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...this one could go anywhere! And it did!

Chats with Mazen Hajjar are a lot of fun for me! He is smart, opinionated, funny, and never going to leave you to die wondering where he stands on an issue...makes for great podcasting!

In this episode, we discuss everything from how he used the Covid interruption to take a deep dive into his business and make some big changes, to his thoughts on why he doesn't feel the need to jump on board the Haze Craze, and how he wants to use storytelling (one of my passions) to help drive his business forward.

These chats are about a love of beer, going off on tangents, and just having a great chin wag! I enjoy them immensely, and I hope you do to.

Ep. 136 - We've Got Something For Everyone. With Bodriggy Brewing Co-Founder, Pete Walsh.

In case you hadn't noticed, just Northeast of the Melbourne CBD, there is a craft beer community to rival any of the other hot spots around the country. At the intersection of Abbotsford and Collingwood is no less than 6 breweries all within a 2 kilometre radius. And even better, they are all producing amazing beers!

One of those such breweries is Bodriggy Brewing Co, and I have been a fan since I got a can of the High Binder American Pale Ale in a beer swap a few years ago. Since then, anytime I saw a can with that unique branding on it, I was keen to try it.

So after a bit of pestering, I managed to snag the co-founder, Pete Walsh for a bit of a chat and this one goes in all sorts of directions...skating, food, OG status claims and of course, great beer!

Ep. 135 - Have you heard this before? Two mates start a brewery? You have? Well, this story is different! With Jetty Road Brewery Co-Founder, Blake Bowden

Tell me if you've heard this before...two mates go to Oktoberfest and dream of starting a brewery. A pretty common occurrence, but not too many take it seriously once the hangover has cleared. Blake and Grant had a dream, and a bit of a plan, but I bet neither of them had any idea of what the journey would hold for them.

Try to keep up with the pace in this one as Blake openly shares the ups and downs, twists and turns of this coming of age tale of a couple of lads from Dromana. Along the way, they add business partners, buy some stainless, face covid uncertainties, and find a couple of investors in the form of Mighty Craft who believe they could one day be a national brand.

I look forward to having a beer with Blake one day, cos drinking an IIPA with him over Zoom wasn't enough...even if he was shouting the beers!

Short Cut - Drums, Beers & Dodging Covid at GABS with Jeff Argent from Grassy Knoll.

Sometimes these conversations pre/post interviews are sparked off of the most random things. This one with Jeff came from him spying my electric drumkit sitting in the background...then he moved his chair to reveal his bigger and better one. I always love to talk music and beer, so that's where this conversation went until it veered off into Covid and GABS territory!

Ep. 134 - Straight 8's, Heartbreaks & New Beginnings. With Grassy Knoll Brewing Co-Founder, Jeff Argent.

Way back in 2018, when times were a little simpler, a couple of musicians from Bondi decided they would do that little Aussie thing we call "having a crack" and decided they would start their own brewing company. Wanting to acknowledge their ties to their local community and capture the vibe of one of the most iconic beaches in not just Australia, but the world, the lads decided to name their new venture after the old Grassy Knoll at the North end of Bondi Beach.

That's the first part of the story, but as I dived into this chat with co-founder, and head brewer, Jeff Argent, I just kept uncovering more and more. I won't spoil it for you, but this one goes pretty deep.

Ep. 133 - The Best Beard In The South. With Deep South Brewing Co-Founder, Dave MacGill.

The Beer Healer is Live and on the road for this episode, which is great fun but provides a few little challenges, as you will hear!

There is a new venue in Tasmania, and it is getting people a little bit excited. Why? Well, it's been a while in the making, and as the building took shape, it has piqued peoples interest. I have even heard the words, Destination Venue being thrown around...okay, that was actually me using that term! Anyway, I've been to a few breweries in my life, and I have to say that Deep South Brewing, a few minutes walk from Hobart's CBD, is right up there.

For the most part, the trend in recent years has been to keep it pretty simple with taprooms at new breweries...concentrate on producing great beer, get creative in building a bar to save some cash, and feed the patrons with a food truck. Not Deep South Brewing, the place is schmick...12 taps of beer from the brewery, and a few friends, a serious wine list and the food...well, it's bloody delicious.

This new venue is the brainchild of a few Tassie mates, and one of them happens to be an OG of the Tassie Brewing scene, ex Moo Brew (twice) and Temple Head Brewer, Dave McGill, who joins me for this episode!

Ep. 132 - That's What Friends Are For. With Bracket Brewing Co-Founder, Mike Meletopoulo

This episode is all about relationships. Mike has worked his way around the industry and made a lot of friends. One of his friends, Krish Fotedar (@Titanstins) introduced Mike to me and we quickly realised that we knew a few of the same people from around the Sydney brewing scene.

Mike has worked for Batch Brewing, Archie Rose Distilling, Beer Cartel, and Stewart Brewing and Edinburgh Beer Factory in Scotland...he's paid his dues! Sometime before Covid smashed us, Mike and his Dad, Mark decided to jump in the deep end and start Bracket Brewing in Alexandria, just on the southern outskirts of Sydney. With many friends in and around the area, Mike has leaned on them to help him through some tough times and has come out the other side with a nice range of ever-changing beers that are starting to make people sit up and take notice.

If you haven't heard of Bracket Brewing, listen up, cos Mike is a ripping guest. And if you haven't tried their beers, you can order them here...they are also awesome.

Short Cut - A Journey To Zero. Rose Kentish from Sparkke Beverages shares their journey to Carbon Zero, and how they are helping others in the industry with theirs.

Let's call this one a medium-cut, because there is a lot of information in this one with Rose from Sparkke.

She shares how they have created their first Carbon Zero beer, and goes into detail as to how they achieved it. Sharing their methods is all part of the plan so that others can follow in their footsteps.

Such an informative 15 minutes, I didn't want to interrupt her as she shared her knowledge, hence the longer run time for a short-cut! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Thanks for the lesson, Rose. Every day is a school day!

Short Cut - What is a Table Beer? Alex from Slow Lane Brewing answers this listener question.

I recently shared this picture of a Slow Lane Brewing Table Beer called, Little One. It was a very tasty beer, but long-time follower, Mike Colley wanted to know exactly what a Table Beer was. I gave him a quick answer with the knowledge I had of the style, which turned out to be pretty close, but also told him I would ask the brewer, Alex from Slow Lane, to explain it for the podcast.

So here it is!!

Ep. 131 - From Accounting & Risk Management to an Old-World Family Brewery with a Twist. With Slow Lane Brewing's Alex & Yvonne Jarman.

Slow Lane Brewing is a bit of throwback...a bit of what's old is new, old-world beers with a modern twist. If you didnt know better you would think Slow Lane's beers were brewed in a beautiful old stone brewery in the rolling hills of Europe, not in a warehouse in an inner-city industrial suburb of Sydney! But that's Slow Lane Brewing for ya, they take the old, and make it new again, and they are doing it really well. From Europe to Botany, with a modern interpretation, and not afraid to push the boundaries. Mixed fermented sours, barrel ageing, and open-top fermenters, these aren't your run of the mill beers. This is the story of a husband and wife duo teaming up to follow a dream, which makes it even more awesome. This is Alex & Yvonne Jarman from Slow Lane Brewing...and an extra special guest! Short Cut - TikTok 101 for Craft Beer. School is in with the old guys from Beer Cartel.

This shortcut came about because of a simple question after we finished the interview..."How's the new job going". I'm working in influencer marketing and have been learning a lot, so it turned into a bit of a download of all the stuff I have been learning about the little social media platform called TikTok.

If you aren't sure about why it's different to other platforms this should give you an intro to it, without being too much!

Ep. 129 - Let's Play Six Degrees of Stirling Howland. With the Balter Brewing Co-Founder & Elvis Impersonator.

If you are a craft beer fan, I reckon you would know the name Stirling Howland, or at least have seen his face. He is the co-founding Brand Director for Balter Brewing Company, a brand that continues to dominate the craft beer scene in Australia.

As a fellow marketer, I look up to this bloke, because he is one of the most talented marketers I have met in my career. As a beer lover, I am insanely jealous of what he gets to do and call it work. He does it so damn well, and it always looks like great fun. I'm sure there are serious times, but what I see in his videos makes it look like a constant good time with mates.

Forgive me if this one isn't all about beer, but there were some other things I wanted to cover with Stirl, including:

•His partner in film, Mike Calvino;
•The art of story telling and how it moves him;
•Why Balter bucked the trend in selling to CUB;
•Blue cheese, Dorito's and Purple tinnies;
•Influencer marketing; and
•Getting a bit serious, checking in on each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed this chat with Stirl, he really opened up and I just got to sit back and enjoy the show!

So, what do you know about the world of crypto currency? For me it's not much, but I also know that if someone asked me what is a natural partnership for craft beer, there would be maybe 100 things I would mention before crypto currency came out of my mouth.

But, with crypto currency hitting the mainstream in recent months, (I know this cos my taxi driver was giving me a lesson in it recently), maybe a craft beer crypto currency collaboration ain't as strange as it seems.

Enter Catchment Brewing and their Crypto Currency brewing partner Moon Pirate, with the world's first ever Crypto Currency beer.

Sound interesting? Well tune in and have a listen to Catchment Brewing CEO, Matt Newberry, explain it all, and more!

Ep. 126 - Let's begin the conversation...with Crack The Ceiling podcasters, Lindsy Greig & Tif Waldron.

This episode is all about starting the conversation about listening, respecting and treating everyone in the same manner. The craft beer industry has been shaken up recently, and with good reason. The social media posts from here and abroad, and articles published on the Crafty Pint and other sites, highlighting the way that our female colleagues in the industry have been treated now and in the past got me thinking. Can I, should I do something to help with this podcast of mine and not only celebrate the good stuff, but highlight the other issues we need to have a conversation about. The answer is yes, so here we are. As you will hear on this episode, I got off to a little bit of a rough start, but we got there in the end...we had a conversation. Thank you to Lindsy & Tif for joining me on this episode, I really hope this helps the cause. If you want to hear more from Linds & TIf, check out their new podcast, Crack The Ceiling. Ep. 125 - I can't believe it's not alcoholic. With Upflow Brewing's Chris Menichelli

This non alcoholic beer craze seems to be gaining momentum. Carlton Zero is being seen in the AFL as a major sponsor, Heineken is all over our TV screens and in Europe it seems that some soccer stadiums are going dry and punters will be watch the ball go in to the back of the auld onion bag while sipping on a beer that won't make them bash on with their opposing supporters.

As Bob Dylan once said, times they are a changing.

In Australia, the big boys are leading the charge with Non-Alc options under both Domestic and International brands. Not wanting to leave it all to the big boys, we are also starting to see craft beer lovers have options as well.
