Also, with the rapid changes in customer demands it is imperative that as BAs we adopt at least an understanding of Agile and how you can be the model for adoption of the organization if they are not ready yet. Lastly, being an effective BA means understanding the BA body of knowledge or BABOK. Taken altogether you have a recipe for greatness. Now of course this is not everything that a BA needs, in all contexts to be great, to be effective, but it is a very good start!
