How Much Ram Do You Need for Photo and Video Editing?

How Much Ram Do You Need for Photo and Video Editing?

How Much Ram Do You Need for Photo and Video Editing?

This video will help you decide how much RAM you need for photo and video editing. ►⏩►⏩ Check RAM recommendations and prices in the links below…

►► Kingston 16GB of RAM - https://amzn.to/2ni6Y8S

►► Kingston 32GB of RAM - https://amzn.to/2nXNozj

Selecting the correct amount of RAM for your video or photo editing laptop is a very important decision. If you have the budget you should never be afraid of purchasing more RAM than you think you may actually need. More RAM will equal a faster laptop.

What does RAM memory do inside of your computer?

Every time you open up a program (Photoshop Premiere Pro, Indesign, Google Chrome, etc…) you are using RAM memory. The more programs you have open at one time the more RAM memory you will use. If you use up your RAM memory your laptop will run slow and laggy.

With Chrome using 1.5 - 2GB of RAM, Premiere Pro using 4GB of RAM, and Photoshop taking up 1GB or more at idle you can see how you can quickly use up your RAM memory.

Alright, that gave you a little preview about what to expect in this week's video. Enjoy! Happy RAM shopping!

Why Did I Buy a Used 2015 Macbook Pro in 2019?

Why Did I Buy a Used 2015 Macbook Pro in 2019?

Should you buy a used MacBook Pro in 2015? I get a lot of questions about buying used MacBook Pros considering the steep cost of a brand new one. ►►► Check prices and specs below...►►►

⏩ 2015 Macbook Pro

► ► Amazon - https://amzn.to/2LIgeOD

The MacBook Pro has been considered the premier creator machine for well over 15 years. Student, veterans and self-taught gurus have flocked to the MacBook Pro for its design aesthetic, performance, and innovation. However, over the years, we have seen substantial price increases within the Macbook Pro 15 in and 13 in line-up.

Due to these price increases, I have designers and video editors reaching out to me on the daily asking what they can do to get their hands on a MacBook Pro (or MacBook Pro alternative). Many designers have asked me if an older generation MacBook Pro will still stand the test of time. With all of the developments in software calling for more and more power will how will an older model handle these demands?

Video #2  Graphic Designers Guide to Value Based Pricing ( https://youtu.be/CfwSuxj-mFk )

In this video, I want to talk to you about how to transition from graphic designer to graphic design strategist. This is the kick-off to a series of videos I am going to be posting on my channel. Throughout my career, I have tried to fight against the “Creative Guy” stigma. I have always wanted to have business partnerships and develop strategies with my freelance clients. I wanted to increase my client's ROI every single month I worked with them.

Books:

On Writing Well - https://amzn.to/2NbkdEg

Building a StoryBrand - https://amzn.to/31dqJxj

These goals have become realities and I want to walk you through how to get these results in your graphic design business. When it comes to getting more clients and building a more sustainable business you have to offer something more valuable than the other guy. That value is your ability to prove your results to your clients. A graphic design strategist is a data-driven person. He/she focuses more on what type of design converts rather than his/her preferences.

So I am launching this series to take you through my journey as I went from print designer to full-time marketing manager (but I like to refer to myself as a graphic design strategist because my root run deep in graphic design.

So whether you are just starting your graphic design business, or you have been at it a few years I want to help you start to bring even more value for your clients and win more proposals.

Don't Learn Graphic Design the Wrong Way!

Don't Learn Graphic Design the Wrong Way!

If you want to become a graphic designer don’t get stuck learning graphic design the wrong way. Wait a sec! There are a right and a wrong way to learn graphic design? ► If you are interested in learning graphic design 100% online then join the Facebook Group

► If 25 people join I will start the Online Graphic Design University

► or Text "DESIGN-ONLINE-FB" to 44222

When I was first training to become a graphic designer I was placed in front of the Adobe CS2. Yeah, this is back when you had to order the Adobe creative suite and install it on your machine with CDs… did you say CD? Oh yeah, I did.

Anyway, I was set in front of a computer and given a tutorial book on how to use the Adobe creative suite. I learned Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. I am so glad I learned all three. The first program I ever learned was InDesign. I think this was extremely important because it didn't allow me to form any healthy addictions to Photoshop, which I see a lot of designers struggling with today.

Anyway, I am slightly digressing. I need to talk about the wrong way and the right way to learn to become a graphic designer. I am going to break down 4 ways to make sure you are doing it right to equip yourself to learn the skills and land a job.

How to Get More Freelance Clients - Laser Focus

How to Get More Freelance Clients - Laser Focus

So you want to know how to get more freelance clients as a graphic designer. It’s all about laser focus and exposure. But how is that played out? Let’s talk about getting more clients...

► ► ► Get the Design Business Kit ---   https://bengkaiser.com/design-business-kit

► Click here to download the Design Business Checklist!

What’s going on everybody. I am on a freelance kick right now as I have been getting a lot of question on how to start a graphic design freelance business, make the transition, and (everyone’s biggest desire) get more clients.

Getting more freelance clients that is what we are talking about in this video.

Niche

Now, before we get more clients we need to decide what type of clients you want depending on what type of work you specialize in. That’s right, you need to pick a niche.

For instance, my last agency job was working for a digital marketing agency that focused on digital marketing for orthodontists. Talk about niche! Not only did they focus on marketing, social media, medical, and teeth, but they took it a step further to orthodontics.

They were rewarded graciously for their focus and are on their way to reaching a multiple 7 figure income by the end of this year. So focus, that is the key.

Because it helps you to develop a reputation for a specific specialty. Then the people and companies in that niche will spread the word and you become the go-to guy or gal.

So as a graphic designer what is going to be your niche. Are you going to take on the healthcare space? Orthopedics, orthodontics, plastic surgery? Maybe construction is more your thing: Concrete companies, builders, roofing, painters, etc…

You want to pick a niche that is turning a decent amount of profit so they have the ability to spend the money on your premium services.

Exposure

Now it is time to find some clients. If you have already been working within your niche then keep it up. If not you may have to make up some companies or offer your services for free to start to build a portfolio of work in that specific niche.

WORK FOR FREE? No way! Well, that is up to you. I worked for free during my 7 years of graphic design undergrad and grad school.

Wait a second, I didn't work for free, I paid them! I paid my teachers to critique my work.

I have worked for non-profits, agencies, as an in-house designer, as well as freelance over my career as a graphic designer and I want to help you build a road map to transition from your full-time job to your freelancing gig dreams.

The reason for making this video? This is a question I get A LOT in my facebook group, the design brief.

Ben, I want to start my own freelance gig, but I don’t know where to start. I don’t know how to get clients. Should I just launch off right now---sink or swim?

Well, Depending on your current circumstances I want to dive into these questions and help you build your road map.

The most common situation I come across is graphic designers working full-time design jobs at agencies, in-house, consulting, publishers, marketers, etc… The main design gigs.

They get some work on the side here and there from friends, family, and a few friends recommending their friends. But this never quite takes off because they only do the work when it comes in, charges a few bucks to buy the new Supremes (as Gary Vee would say).

So, they think, yeah freelancing is cool, but not sustainable. Then they get to a point where they are tired of designing for someone else. They start to get wind of how much their boss is charging for the projects that they are doing, but they are only getting paid $XXXXX.

This is where the gears start to turn and they want a piece of that bigger pie.

What most designers know, but don’t actively consider is this…

The reason the agency can charge so much comes down to three things:

Experience

Exposure

Reputation

Whenever someone joins The Design Brief facebook group I always ask a series of questions. "What are your goals as a graphic designer?" is one of those questions.

Without a doubt, 60% - 75% of people coming into the group say,  "I want to start freelancing". They have been working in an agency job, they are just finishing up college, or they have picked up a few clients and they want to make freelancing their full-time thing!

I then go on to ask them if they have a niche or focus that they want to promote and double down on to start their graphic design business.

Next, I ask them if they have a solid/organized business structure for their freelance business. I am not talking about an LLC, a sole proprietorship, or some killer tax structure.

I am specifically talking about the bones of their business. Having a good project management system, knowing how to make contracts and agreements, or having an automated email system.

Most of the time when I ask these questions people say, "No, I don't".

It was very interesting to me because this is something I had been working on for the past 5+ years was developing a system for my business.

Many people have terrible relationships (communication wise) with their clients. It wastes a lot of time and money. So why do they continue to live in the waste of time?

Because it is the only way they know how to run their growing "Business".

My solution? The graphic design business kit!

Check it out if you want to get a jump start are structuring your business the correct way and save yourself 1000s of hours.

Starting and Structuring Your Graphic Design Business - Design Business Kit

There are so many things I found when I was getting my business started that I wasn't prepared for...

Client communications can be a real struggle when starting a graphic design business, and as an example, I want to tell you a quick story.

When I was first started working with clients I felt very disorganized and truly out of sorts.

One day I picked up a call from a client who was asking about some revisions he sent over. I ignorantly told him I saw his message and the changes would be made asap, thinking I would find his message, but I never did.

So I had to call the client back, tell him I lost his message and that I needed him to resend. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!

Needless to say, client communication within a graphic design business is extremely time consuming and can be frustrating. That is why I think it is crucial when starting and structuring your graphic design business to make sure you have a system in place to handle client revisions and communications.

So I went on a pursuit to make a change in my business.

I needed to fine tune my graphic design business in order to become systemized, organized, and efficient with my time and money.

There are a lot of great tools out there for project management, but what I found (personally as a graphic designer) is that these tools were either too robust and cumbersome or to simple and unhelpful.

I needed a system that was tailored to my work as a designer.

If you are a graphic designer, motion designer, or video editor than you are looking in the right place for a new graphic design laptop. It is important to select a laptop with the correct specs, build, and usability to ensure you have a machine that will serve you well in your workday.

While reviewing the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 2 I looked at 4 specific areas that will help you decide if the Strix II is a good laptop for you. The 4 areas I always observe are experience, usability, performance, and build quality. If these 4 areas match your needs then you are ready to pull the trigger and invest in the Strix 2.

My name is Ben Kaiser I have been in the graphic design industry for barely under a decade now and I love the tech side of design as much as the creative side. It is my goal with my blog and YouTube channel to help equip other graphic designers with the tools, tech, and tips to get started or maximize the success in the graphic design industry.

This laptop totes the same processor as the original Strix. This setup is fantastic for graphic design as it allows great workflow. The processor, RAM, SSD, and Hard Drive will empower your efficiency.

Processor: Intel Core i7-8750H

RAM: 16GB DDR4

Hard Drive: 512GB SSD (boot & storage)

Graphics Processing Unit: NVIDIA RTX 2070

The processor and the RAM combination are perfect for graphic design. Plenty of power to run multiple programs at the same time and have fantastic load and save times in the standard graphic design Adobe software: Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator.

With the Strix II you have the entire machine run off of the SSD and the storage on the SSD. This will give you a far more powerful reliable machine!

Now I will quickly address the GPU If you are a graphic designer interested in getting into motion design, multi-media design, or video editing with 4k footage then the Strix II is a fantastic buy. Simply put, it has far faster rending time and far better playback than previous generations of GPUs like the GTX 1050 and the GTX 1070. These two things will save you time and frustration. On a few tests, I ran there was a substantial amount of time saved. Nearly 2 hours was saved by choosing the Strix II with the RTX 2070 over one of the prior generation GPUs.

I hope this review has been helful in your buying decision!

There is a ton of content out there for gamers and laptops that are best for gaming, but when it comes to video editing and benchmark testing there is not A LOT. There is some, no doubt, but not the mass quantity you find within the gaming niche.

When I jump around the internet there is quite a bit to be said about the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 and the RTX 2070 as it relates to gaming, but very little about the performance states for video editing.

So that is why I am here. Let’s jump in getting down to the details on the things that we as creatives are or should be concerned about when it comes to the Graphics Processing Units within our machines.

First of all my main area of expertise is graphic design with complementary skills in video production so if I miss any details that you want/need to know about the battle between these two GPUs please don’t hesitate to reach out in the comments below!

Second, I will be using the ASUS ROG Strix and the Strix II as the computers featuring the GTX 1070 and the RTX 2070. If you are interested in these models you can snag a link in the description below to get two-day shipping on Amazon, or head on over to Computer Upgrades Kings with the discount code “ben3” to get a discount on any computer over on Computer Upgrade Kings including the two I am featuring in this video!

Let’s dive into the content. Deciding if the GTX 1070 of the RTX 2070 is right for you.

First off there is a substantial difference in pricing when it comes to purchasing the GPU outright, but when we look at the laptop comparison (Click Here…. And Here) there is not a large difference in pricing so you may think, well, then why not just go for the RTX?!

Well, perhaps your money could be, or could not be spent somewhere else. That is what we are about to find out.

So enjoy the video and dive into the comment section if you have any questions!

Best Laptop Under 1000 For Graphic Designers

Best Laptop Under 1000 For Graphic Designers

This video has been a long time coming! I will be presenting the best laptops under 1000 dollars for graphic designers.

►►► Full List of Laptops Below - Don't Miss It!

I have had a lot of you asking questions about the laptops on a budget. I have found that the "budget" for most designers is under $1000.

► HP Pavilion X360 ( https://amzn.to/2BBfe8a )

► Acer Aspire 5 ( https://amzn.to/2X19LAM )

► ASUS VivoBook S 15 ( https://amzn.to/2E7HP6U )

► Lenovo Yogo 710 ( https://amzn.to/2Swosxf )

► Dell G3 17in ( https://amzn.to/2E8TeDm )

► ► ► Best Laptops for Graphic Designers

Now, I must say this is a VERY difficult thing to come by because there are certain performance specs you need to be satisfied with your laptop as a designer. So I recommend these laptops with a certain degree of caution. I often will steer people towards slightly more expensive laptops because I know they will be far more satisfied with their purchase in the long run.

However, I have received numerous questions about specific laptops and peoples interest with finding a laptop under $1000, so I thought it was due time to create this post. I appreciate these questions because this helps me understand what you are looking for and how I can better help you on your journey in graphic design or other design fields.

Disclaimer: these are NOT my absolute top favorite most fantastic picks just so you know.  These are laptops that I think are well enough equipped to handle the ins and outs of graphic design, but are not my top-rated machines. "Then why would I recommend them", you may ask. Well, because not everyone has the budget to get the best of the best, so I wanted to give a guide to those people on a budget but still ready to jump into graphic design.

If you are curious about my Best Laptops for Graphic Design then you can check out the video at this link...

► Best Laptops for Graphic Designers ( https://youtu.be/mBP_JliTReE )

Alright without further stagnation, let's jump into the content! What is a great computer made of from the inside out?

Your Laptop should have at least 8GB of RAM in order to run multiple applications at the same time. I would not recommend ANYTHING LESS than 8GB. Most laptops have the option to upgrade the RAM. If you are going to be investing in a new machine for your graphic design career you should definitely start with at least 8GB and consider moving up to 16GB when your budget allows.

The Intel i7 processor is still my benchmark processor inside of laptops for graphic design. But most budget laptops come with an Intel i5 processor. The i5 will run the Adobe Creative Cloud applications well, but be careful not to have too many tasks open at one time as this will cause your computer to slow down. There are budget computers that come with even smaller processors. Avoid these. You will be very dissatisfied with the performance. This is NOT a sales ploy, just the facts from a graphic designer with 10+ years at the craft.

I would highly recommend trying to purchase a laptop with an SSD (Solid State Drive). The reason being? It adds speed and readability to your computer. When you own a solid state hard drive there are ZERO moving parts. This means that there are far fewer opportunities to malfunction. Trust me you don't want your computer to crash in the middle of

How to Create a Graphic Design Portfolio Website (Part 1)

How to Create a Graphic Design Portfolio Website (Part 1)

In this video, I want to walk you through how to create a graphic design portfolio website. As well as, should you create a graphic design portfolio website. ⏩ Hostgator Discount code and Design Checklist below!

► Host Gator Discount Code - http://bit.ly/bengkaiserhostgator

In this video, I want to answer a few questions that I run into a lot with design students and professional designers alike:

- Why create a graphic design portfolio website

- Should I create a graphic design portfolio website?

- How to create a graphic design portfolio website.

- Do I need a graphic design portfolio website?

- Should I build a graphic design website?

- Is it worth it to build a website for graphic designers?

- How to build a graphic design website.

There are a many more questions and inquires, but the former help you to get the gist of what this video is all about!

Why should you be creating a graphic design portfolio website?

Whether you are still in school, looking for a job, in a job, or wanting to go out on your own full time as a freelancer an online portfolio is crucial!

What is the purpose of a Graphic Design Portfolio Website

You need to show people your portfolio and you have far more control over your site.

IF you are talking with potential clients you can easily drop a link to your website and they can review your work.

Professionalism: Having your own website speaks as a level of professionalism like owning a storefront rather than a hot dog stand.

What kind of website can you build

1. FULLY Coded website

2. Wordpress (Semi Involved Design and URL

3. Square Space, Wix, and Weebly

Custom Domain Name/URL - I use Hostgator

I like there product a lot. I have had great experiences with their live chat online support. They are very responsive to my questions and I have always had my websites live online (No downed sites - I have 6 websites on a “Baby” account).

You need to try and get .com (I know other URLs are becoming more popular, but most people assume a website is a .com. If you are unable to secure .com with your name or preferred business name then go for something that makes sense.

Why should you have a domain name when EVERYONE is telling you to promote your work on social media. It is important to show up with a booth at a convention, but that convention could be here and gone. If you have your own website, no matter what platform you are using to do your promotions and networking you will always have an online presence.

START A BLOG. When it comes to graphic design clients these days they are looking for something more than a good looking logo cheap logo. They can go to Fiverr for that. The reason they are looking for a professional designer is about know how to tell a story with your work and you should have a SOLID understanding of the philosophy and practice of design.

With that in mind, writing a SOLID About Me page, AND/OR having a blog, which it is the route I chose to pursue, allows people to really get to know what you believe and the work you produce as a designer.

What Does it Take to Become a Graphic Designer?

What Does it Take to Become a Graphic Designer?

What does it take to become a graphic designer and sustain a long-term career in the graphic design industry? If you are looking to become a graphic designer I want to fill you in on a few key elements to achieve long-term success.
⏩ Links for the Resources Mentioned in this video and show notes below!

► So Good They Can't Ignore You by Cal Newport (
amzn.to/2Pa2OIA )
► Deep Work by Cal Newport ( amzn.to/2SmGwFA )

► Join The Design Brief Facebook Group to be a part of a community of designers looking to grow their careers and businesses! ( bit.ly/thedesignbrief )

It is crucial to consider long-term sustainability if you are looking to become a graphic designer. You need to daily get up and work to improve your skillset and mindset to be oriented around the work you are producing and want to be producing as a graphic designer. It is not enough to show up once a week, once every other week, or even once a month and expect to become a great graphic designer.

Quick story: Each work day I take some time at lunch to head up to our local park and use the outdoor "Cross-Fit" work out equipment to get a quick 15 - 20 minute workout. There are pull up bars, push up bars, boxes, benches, etc... I don't do anything crazy, like a 2 hour INTENSITY work out. I just get out, get my blood flowing and seek to build strength in my body. Now, the key is that I do this each and every day.

Almost on the daily I will see people randomly stop by the outdoor equipment to bet their buddy they can do 20, 30, 50 pull-ups. can they accomplish this feat? Sure, and most do, but at the end of the year let me ask you, who do you think will be strong? Me or the guy who shows up once a month and does 50 pull-ups.

ME! Why? Consistency!

Consistency will always outweigh a BURST of effort or a spark of creative genius. If you do not put in the daily work and effort to become a graphic designer you will NOT become the graphic designer you desire to become.

Now the question I will pose to you is this... What can you do each day to build your skills to become a graphic designer? Do you need to be learning the philosophy of design, following design trends, but more importantly foundational design principles? Are you reviewing and practicing with the latest products that Adobe is putting out to get an edge on the competition? All of these tools and activities will help you to establish yourself as a graphic designer and set you up for long-term success.

Another very important piece of learning is to set up specific times each day to work on those skills and grow in the areas you want to improve. If you are not intentional about your time it is so easy to get thrown off by texts, emails, phone calls, and invitations from friends to go hang out on the town. Be intentional and protect your time to learn.

New 2018 Mac Mini Graphic Designers Review

New 2018 Mac Mini Graphic Designers Review

You're interested in the New 2018 Mac Mini and you want to know if this is a good computer for graphic design. Well, you came to the right place. I am going to review the 2018 Mac Mini for Graphic Designers.

⏩ Link to the 2018 Mac Mini and Show Notes below!

► New 2018 Mac Mini (
amzn.to/2KKrZRu )
- 16GB RAM, i7 Processor, 1TB SSD

Alternatives to the Mac Mini
► Alienware R7 ( amzn.to/2DRwyIg )
► CUK Continuum ( amzn.to/2DSTqXU )
► HP Pavilion - Small Desktop ( amzn.to/2E6gZNu )
► MSI Trident - Slim Desktop ( amzn.to/2Qp4ceN )

Currently I work as a graphic designer and digital marketing manager where I use the Mac Mini on a daily basis. I am going to walk you through some of my frustrations with the current Mac Mini that I use and why I think this the New 2018 Mac Mini could be a solution to the problems that I have on the daily.

What does my workload and software use look like each day while using the Mac Mini? I am normally working out of multiple Chrome browser windows with multiple tabs open on those windows. I am an avid user of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. I would like to use all of those programs at the same time, but unfortunately, due to the lack of power in the current Mac Mini, I am using I can usually only open when Adobe software at a time while also using Chrome with the open browser windows.

The reason is two-fold. The i5 Processor combined with a meager 8GB of RAM. The RAM memory is what is used to deliver the ability to use multiple programs at the same time. For instance, when I open Photoshop and begin to use the program I am usually pulling anywhere from 3 - 6 gigabytes of RAM memory. IF my computer only has 8 and the Chrome browser is 1 - 2 then that only leaves my computer with 1 maybe to gigabytes to use. You can now see where the issue lies. The Mac Mini becomes quickly overloaded and I get the spinning rainbow of DEATH.

Now, how is this overcome with the NEW and improved 2018 Mac Minis? Well, I am glad you asked! The new generation comes with a few options for you. You can get either 8, 16, 32, or 64gb of RAM. An i3, i5, or i7 processor. As well as 128, 256, 512GB, 1, or 2TB of Solid State hard drive.

So immediately we see the increase in power and opportunity for much better performance. I would not recommend getting this computer with anything less than 16GB of RAM and the i7 processor, and 512GB of solid state Hard Drive.

I think this is a great machine, but for the cost, I find that there are equally powerful computers that will do the job for graphic designers at a fraction of the cost.

The Mac Mini is an interesting computer. Its size is its leading benefit. For those how are not able to purchase a BIG tower due to spacing limitations, the Mac Mini is a fabulous solution. The only issue comes when you consider the build and its relation to how it performs because of that build. The Mac Mini has no vents on the side of the computer. Because of this it does not allow the fan to pull a great deal of air across the processor to cool the processor and retain peak performance. So rather than running the fan faster and trying to cool the computer, the Mac Mini throttles back the performance to control the temperature.

When you look at a standard tower from other companies you will find a large vent with a large fan along with plenty of space inside the computer housing. This allows a lot of airflow over the key components to cool them and keep your computer running FAST.

So those are my basic/introductory thoughts on the 2018 Mac Mini if you want to listen to get my full review you can listen/watch on YouTube or via the Podcast!

How to Start a Freelance Graphic Design Business

How to Start a Freelance Graphic Design Business

How to Start a Freelance Graphic Design Business is a video I created as a comprehensive walkthrough on all the important steps to consider when starting a freelance graphic design business.

If you are considering starting a graphic design business there are a handful of details you are going to want to consider that affect not only the design details of your business but also the administrative parts too!

There are a lot of tips that can be shared when starting a graphic design agency, but I think one of the most important things to consider right off the bat is the service you will offer. If you are a graphic design firm that is known for doing any type of design for any type of client you will have an unscalable business. You will not develop a clear marketing strategy for your services, nor will you have the ability to hedge yourself as the go-to graphic design business when people are searching for a specific graphic design need.

Have you set goals? Are you prepared to grow your design skills and business knowledge to build a successful business? One of my favorite sayings is, "If you always do what you always did you will always get what you always got". This is so true and needs to be addressed when you are starting your graphic design graphic design business. Set some goals, write them down, and strive after them.

If you want to become a freelance graphic designer then you need to get specific with your goals and write down how many clients you want to have in your business, how much money you want to make and what new skills you want to learn. Get practical. Get down to the details!

I am going to walk you through the best specs and aspects for a graphic design laptop so that you can make an informed decision on Cyber Monday this year! Make sure when buying a laptop for graphic design that it is powerful enough to perform the tasks you are performing. You can get the best Cyber Monday deal in the word, but if it lacks performance it was no deal at all.

Do not get deceived by price over performance. When it comes to buying a laptop on Cyber Monday I find that a lot of people get so excited about SCORING A DEAL that they don't even take the time to look at the actual product behind that deal. So don't be deceived when buying your graphic design laptop on Cyber Monday. Do your research and make a qualified buying decision. It is often worth the extra $100 dollars to get the Laptop that is suitable for your design needs.

Check Your Computer Specs Here ( notebookcheck.net/ )

I am going to talk through 3 major points as well evaluate this laptop for graphic designers: usability, performance, and build quality.

Usability:
As far as usability is concerned you want to make sure you are getting a computer that fits your lifestyle. Say you are on the go a lot. You may need a thin and light laptop that is easy to get around town with that also has great performance. This laptop will cost you a little bit more but it will suit your needs as a designer very well.

If you are someone who doesn't move around a lot then maybe a little thicker laptop with great performance may be for you. The laptop will have higher performance at a better price. There are pros and cons to each graphic design laptop, and on this Cyber Monday, you want to be sure you are making the right buying decision.

Performance:
This is a key element in purchasing the correct design laptop on Cyber Monday. If you do not get a laptop that performs well, then what good was the deal you scored anyway!

I recommend at least the following specs for a superb graphic design laptop:

- 16GB of RAM
- 256GB Solid State Hard drive (or a hybrid SSD + HDD)
- i7 Processor
- At least a GTX 960, MX 150, or Radeon 550 GPU

With these specs, you will be certain that your computer will perform well and not slow down your creative process!

Build Quality:
This is another area of focus because depending on budget and the needs you have this will vary. Because there are so many options out there for a computer you can find nearly any budget and any build quality you are looking to find. Just be sure that you take the time to do a little research before hitting the purchase button.

For example, the best-built design laptops:
► Dell XPS 15 ( amzn.to/2K5X9SU )
► VivoBook Pro ( amzn.to/2RUls8T )
► Gigabyte Aero 15 ( amzn.to/2DF1JHm )

The Best Budget laptops for Performance:
► CUK W650 ( amzn.to/2B9lLHt )
► HP Omen ( amzn.to/2K6ONKx )
► HP ProBook 450 ( amzn.to/2K4gvYn )

Better than the Dell XPS 15?

Better than the Dell XPS 15?

Is there a laptop that is better than the Dell XPS 15? Better yet is there a budget laptop that can be a worthy competitor to the Dell XPS 15? Looking for a laptop that can rival the Dell XPS 15?...

► Dell XPS 15 9570 - New Version of My Laptop
( amzn.to/2Q1J26s )

Now, before you jump in on the comments section and give me all of the various reasons why the Dell XPS is superior, I will agree that In some areas the Dell XPS 15 is Superior, BUT if you are an individual looking for the power of the Dell XPS 15 and you are on a budget, then you have found a very viable option to the Dell XPS 15.

This review is asking is this laptop better than the dell XKP 15. The reason I am asking this question is that I personally get a lot of questions about budget laptops for graphic designers and what laptop they should buy for their work. Here are a few of the questions I often am asked or come across...

- What is a good budget version of the Dell XPS 15?
- Is there a good budget alternative to the Dell XPS 15?
- Alternative to the Dell XPS 15
- Are there any laptops better than the Dell XPS 15?
- Dell XPS 15 Comparison
- Dell XPS 15 on a Budget
- What is better than the Dell XPS 15?

The list could go on for a good while longer but you get the point. Designers and laptop enthusiasts alike are trying to find a budget or affordable version to the Dell XPS 15

I have run numerous benchmark tests with this laptop and I am super impressed by the performance it puts out. Now, before you think this is just a HYPE video I will say that there are a few things I want to point out about this laptop that does indeed place it in the budget range of graphic design computers. Alright, let’s jump into the content and talk about what makes this laptop a fantastic choice for your graphic design needs.

Performance truly is key when selecting the best budget laptop for graphic design and in this video, I will talk about a few major components. Usability, performance, and build quality.

The last thing I want to talk about is the build quality. I feel that the build quality of the CUK Barebones W650 is solid in its place in the budget category. It is difficult to compare a thin sleek MacBook Pro, Dell XPS 15, or Gigabyte Aero. You truly need to compare Apples to Apples. I am impressed with the assembly and choice of materials for this computer.

One BIG feature that I find extremely suitable for graphic design from a performance standpoint is the thick profile. This allows for maximum breathing room for the fans and CPU to stay cool and run at peak performance.

Is Fiverr Worth it for Graphic Designers?

Is Fiverr Worth it for Graphic Designers?

Is Fiverr worth it for graphic designers trying to gain more clients and make more money? I know there are a lot of designers that are getting jobs and making money on Fiverrr, but is it worth it?

►►►Get the Checklist and Join the Facebook Group below.

► Click here to download the Design Business Checklist!
(
bit.ly/designbusinesschecklist )

►Join The Design Brief Facebook Group to be a part of a community of designers looking to grow their careers and businesses! ( bit.ly/thedesignbrief )

I want to talk about a few key points on getting more clients and making money as a graphic designer with and without Fiverr.com. Right now many graphic designers that are getting started in the industry are flocking to Fiverr in hopes to strike a mass amount of clients in order to make a living as a graphic designer. I have seen a lot of designers do so, with fairly meager success.

Let's clear up a few misunderstandings on what it means to work on Fiverr and more ways to gain clients and get a leg up in your graphic design career.

First off I do not think that Fiverr.com is ruining the graphic design 9industry. I think it is giving people who have always wanted an affordable option for graphic design services the opportunity to get those services without beating up professional designers one on one. They can just go to Fiverr and get the affordable services they desire.

Fiverr is not pulling any substantial business away from the graphic design community, but rather pulling away from people who are not serious about getting a tailormade solution for their businesses and organizations.

If you are a designer who wants to give a "Quick Fix" for companies that just need a one-off job than Fiverr may be for you, but if you want to develop longterm design clients Fiverr is not the place to be.

Another thing I want to make clear is the reach that Fiverr actually has to connect you with clients. If you talk with MOST business owners, local business owners especially, you will find when asking them if they have ever heard of Fiverr.com you will get crickets... What I mean is that they have NEVER heard of Fiverr.com. So, if your potential clientele have never heard of Fiverr.com and you are on Fiverr.com are you going to make them a client if you are only on Fiverr.com? NO!

So the real question is what got you to the platform? Advertising is what got you there. I have found myself tempted by the idea of using Fiverr.com because I see the Ads all over the place. It seems like the place to be if you want to get design clients!

But truly the advertising is geared toward digital marketers, and online business jockeys. Which is only about 10 - 20% of the worlds businesses. So that means you are missing out on 80 - 90% of businesses if you are only looking for graphic design clients on Fiverr.

"Ok, Ben if Fiverr is so unprofitable than what should I do to get design clients? Because I still need design clients!" I am glad you asked! Why not take some of the time you were going to use to set up accounts on ALLLL of these different Freelancer websites and going out to some local businesses and offer some preliminary graphic design services at a discounted rate to get them in the door. Express to them that you want to offer this discount to work with them and if they want to continue working with you after that Job it will increase to your normal rate, but you want to show them the value of your design.

Maybe they are struggling to market their business and you could collaborate with a digital marketer to start running some Facebook Ads for them. There are a lot of ways outside of Fiverr to begin to develop long term designer/client relationships. That is another side note. If you get a client on Fiverr they are not YOUR client, they are Fiverr's client. Building long term design relationships is key to a sustainable business.

Another great way to get more design clients is to hone in on a specific niche. Say, construction, or

TN Panel Vs IPS Screens for Graphic Design

TN Panel Vs IPS Screens for Graphic Design

TN Panels Vs IPS Screens for Graphic Design, which screen is better? I receive a lot of questions every day about screen quality and which screen is better so I wanted to put out a video.
⏩ Computers below with TN and IPS screens to choose from...

TN Screen Laptops
► MSI GS65 Stealth Thin (

► MSI GE63 Raider ( amzn.to/2PExztv )
► Asus TUF FX504GD ( amzn.to/2PN7hVI )

► Gigabyte Aero 15 ( amzn.to/2OsDehj )
► HP Omen ( amzn.to/2yTyblc )
► MacBook Pro ( amzn.to/2Da347M )

► Check your current Computer:

► Video Mention about Color Quality
( youtu.be/zvYXaMHzwc8 )

If you are specifically interested in WHAT IS THE BEST SCREEN FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN? Are TN Panel screens really THAT BAD? Then you are in the right place. In this post, I am going to talk about TN Panels, IPS Screens, PLS Screens, and VA Screens. I am going to talk through the practical steps to buying the right screen for you. So sit back, and enjoy some tech talk on today's video/post.

The first thing I want to say is that all screens have their intended uses. So that means that one screen is not BETTER than another, but it may, in fact, be better suited for a specific person and their use of the screen. So please pay close attention as we are going through the list of screens and screen types.

1. TN Panel
The first screen I want to talk about is the TN Panel screen which stands for Twisted Nematic. These screens are low weight, low cost to produce, and lower power consumption. These three aspects make this screen a prime choice for nearly every computer producer. They hit all of the desires of your average consumer.

2. IPS Screens
In-Plane Switching (or IPS) screens are the screens that will give you deep blacks and bright colors and you are going to get crisp colors from whatever angle you view the screen. Please note that these screens cost more to produce, they will drain more power from your computer and they are less responsive than TN Panel screens.

Now, how accurate are these IPS screens. Are they 100% color accurate. let's talk about it quickly. Color accuracy from your screen to say a website, ebook, or any other digital asset is going to be very accurate from an IPS screen that is HD or 4k. If you are looking to print a design and you are expecting 100% color accuracy you may find that you are not seeing the color accuracy you desire... Why?!

There are major differences between screen-based colors which are RGB (Red-Green-Blue) and printed colors which are CMYK (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Key).

3. PLS Screen
The PLS (Plane to Line Switching) is basically Samsung's version of the IPS screen. PLS screens are known to be a little bit brighter by about 10% and they are going to cost about 15% more to produce. So if you see your computer has a PLS screen rather than an IPS screen, you are in good hands.

4. VA Screens
The last screen type we are going to talk about is the VA (Vertical Alignment) screen. This screen is a happy medium between the TN Panels and the IPS. Basically, it will not be as bright as the IPS screen but it will save power like the TN Panel. It will not save AS MUCH power as the TN Panel, but it won't be a power drain like the IPS. This screen is a great middle of the road for someone who wants GOOD color quality and GOOD performance.

In conclusion, all of these screen choices are good, but the question is which screen is best for you! That, my friend, is your choice! it is all up to what fits your needs best.

Biggest Freelance Graphic Designer Mistakes!

Biggest Freelance Graphic Designer Mistakes!

What is the biggest graphic design freelance business mistake? If you are a graphic designer looking to start a freelance graphic design business I want you to be aware of the biggest mistake.
►►►Get the Checklist and Join the Facebook Group below.

(

►Join The Design Brief Facebook Group to be a part of a community of designers looking to grow their careers and businesses! ( bit.ly/thedesignbrief )

I see graphic designers making a similar mistake when starting design agencies or small freelance business owners. They are excited to promote their work and get their name out on social media, on their website and advertise in local publications, but they forget about a few key principles of business and that is a solid business structure.

What I see new freelance designers doing is running to Instagram and posting all of this content and then telling people to go check out their Facebook page and while they are on their facebook page make sure to watch this YouTube video I posted on YouTube about how you should follow me on Instagram. The hamster wheel just goes around and around and around.

What they are missing is making the first things first things and getting a sustainable business set up from the beginning in order to run a long-term successful business.

If you have no structure you will be unable to sustain any growth. Growth is only good if you can handle the influx of work. If you are not set up to handle the growth the success will sink your business and you will not be able to deliver what you promised on time.

So there are 4 important steps to set up your freelance design business correctly.

1. Get Organized.
That is the first tip for growing your graphic design business. Why is this so important? if you are not organized you will be unable to locate files and find the work you need to be working on and this is a huge time waster!

2. Get Automated
If you are looking to grow your freelance graphic design business than there are so many resources that help you automate all of the administrative details. The details that are consuming so much of your time. These details pull you away from working as a freelance graphic designer, and they are making you a secretary. Right now, do you get paid for your secretary skills or the graphic design work your produce?

3. Become a Project Manager
The third tip to growing your graphic design freelance business is to become a project manager. If you are thinking, well it is just me right now, why do I need to become a project manager? Well, let me ask you. If you wanted to know the status of one of your projects, how would you go about knowing this information? Would you have to go into your emails or texts to see where things are at in the process? If that is the case you are wasting massive amounts of time, where you could be designing.

4. Grow Your Team
Growing your team is an obvious and necessary move you must make in order to grow your graphic design business. But first, you must have all of the necessary tools and resources in place to structure your team in a way that saves time, money, and creativity. You must first get organized, get automated, and become a project manager. Only then will you be able to effectively grow your team.

...administrative structure to build out a successful and scalable graphic design business. What I find is that so many graphic designers dive into a freelance business or want to start a graphic design agency, but they don't take the time to build a structure for their business to stand on. When they try to scale they often experience a certain ceiling on their business that they cannot seem to overcome and this is due to a bad business structure.

So how do you overcome this problem and build out a good business structure? Well, one option is starting with the Graphic Design Business Starter Kit ( bit.ly/2OguL0M ) which I am offering to Beta Testers to help me refine the communication and clarity of the content.

SSD Vs HDD Hard Drives for Graphic Designers

SSD Vs HDD Hard Drives for Graphic Designers

So SSD Vs HDD Hard Drive for Graphic designers, what is the difference between the two and what is best for your laptop or computer. It comes down to two important details...
►►► Check out the gear discussed in the video links below...

Computer with SSD and HDD Combo
► VivoBook Pro (
amzn.to/2JrXz5I )
► HP Omen ( amzn.to/2RiTXpo )
► MSI GS63 Stealth ( amzn.to/2OfcwbZ )

External Solid State Hard Drives
► Lacie External SSD ( amzn.to/2AAgfNO )
► Samsung External SSD ( amzn.to/2OXaLW9 )

Computers with SSD Only
► Gigabyte Aero 15 ( amzn.to/2CPc0zo )
► MacBook Pro 15 ( amzn.to/2DfV6Lo )
► Dell XPS 15 ( amzn.to/2ObuCM8 )

In this video, I want to answer some questions I receive on the channel concerning solid state hard drives vs hard disk drives. A lot of people are wondering the differences between SSD and HDD. Graphic designers are wondering what is best for their laptops and computers. Which type of hard drive should they get? Should they get 256GB of Hard Drive storage or 4TB? Is SSD really more reliable than HDD? Let's jump into it!

What is the difference between a solid state hard drive and a hard disk drive?

A Solid State Hard Drive has no moving parts. Think about a small USB Drive, Thumb drive, or Memory stick (whatever you refer to them as). This is basically a miniature Solid State Hard Drive. You can add files to it, erase the files, format the drive, etc... and there are no moving parts to perform these actions.

The HDD or Hard Disk Drive, however, uses a small disk, a tiny eye (to read the disk) and an arm to move the eye across the disk as it spins round and round. This is how memory is stored, retrieved and then erased.

So on each type of drive how is this information retrieved, saved, written, erased, etc... I will give you two scenarios to visualize this process.

1. The Hard Disk Drive: Imagine that I want to know how to spell the word ambiguous, but I am unsure how to spell the word. Is it Ambigus, or Ambiguoos, perhaps it is ahmbiguos...? I look towards my bookshelf spot the Thesaurus or dictionary on the shelf, get up, walk across the room, grab the thesaurus, flip open to the A's and find the word ambiguous with its proper spelling.

2. The Solid State Hard Drive: In this same scenario I want to find out how to spell ambiguous. But rather than getting up and grabbing a thesaurus off the shelf I simply pull out my iPhone and search ambiguous definition. I was not required to get up and search for this information with moving action. I simply search for the result where I was sitting.

So let me ask you. Which search technique gave me a faster result. The SSD model. With no moving parts, the storage is not required to "Find" the piece of information. It is simply there and ready to retrieve when searched upon.

Another important factor to SSD Hard Drives vs HDD Hard Drives is that they are far more reliable. With no moving parts, the hard drives are FAR LESS likely to crash, wear out, or malfunction. This is very important to me as a graphic designer. I often am working on projects that I CANNOT afford to lose. So having the reliability of an SSD hard drive is extremely reassuring as I am working on my projects.

Graphic Design Business Challenges

Graphic Design Business Challenges

Graphic designers face unique business challenges every single day. If you are just getting your design business started or you have been working at it for a while now I want to share a few tips...

►Join The Design Brief Facebook Group to be a part of a community of designers looking to grow their careers and businesses! ( bit.ly/thedesignbrief )

As graphic designers, we have the unique problem of subjective clients. What I mean by this is that everyone has their ideas of how something should look, the process of how the creative process should work, and how to give feedback that is intuitive and helpful.

I made this video to discuss some problems I see every day as a graphic designer with nearly a decade of experience in the industry. I am now a digital marketing manager handling the brunt of client relations and I have found that there are far more administrative challenges to deal with in a design/creative oriented business than there are design challenges.

If you are thinking of starting a graphic design business, trust me when I say, the design aspect will be the least of your worries. You need to make sure you have a solid foundation that involves great client communication, a killer onboarding process, and a way to manage your projects efficiently and accurately.
When you do this right it will give you more time to do what you love. ACTUALLY DESIGN.

I want to list out 4 issues I find common for graphic designers and how to solve them.

1. My clients don’t list.
You need to listen to them first. I think a lot of times we are surprised when we have a “bad client” but chances are they were a bad client from the start, we were just so excited to have a client that we missed all of the social and verbal cues.

2. Where is that photo, design file, email address?
Disorganization is a HUGE hurdle for designers. The key to solving this problem is a proper folder structure that you commit to. If you do not commit to a rock solid folder structure than your project management will quickly get out of whack and you will be hard-pressed to recover from a disorganized mess!

3. Where is that project at?
Project Management tools, Client infosheets, calendar reminders, and assignments. (this is kind of like a high-tech version of your grammas Address Book, do you remember those?!) A Project Management suite will allow you to quickly manage your clients at a glance. This will help you increase the efficiency of your workflow which is what will ultimately allow you to scale your design business. Without scalability, your business will never grow, outside of you working 16 - 18 hours a day!

4. Are we in charge of that for the client?
Get a contract and get it signed ASAP! This is something that I find new graphic design business owners overlooking more than experienced business. You can easily be taken advantage of by a client who just wants a little bit more of this and a little bit more of that. They will say, "How about we just add this design element?" or "Can I get another quick social media asset?" This will burn through your time and energy. Leaving you underpaid and overwhelmed. It is so important to get a contract signed on the agreed-upon terms that way inf the client does want a change you can refer to the contract and offer the opportunity to "Add it to the contract". This not only keeps you from overworking yourself, but it gives you a great opportunity to upsell the client, WINNING!

Wacom Vs iPad For Designers

Wacom Vs iPad For Designers

The long awaited video discussing Wacom Tablet Vs iPad for graphic designers and illustrators to work on illustrations, sketches, logo design, making concepts and more.
►►► Check out the gear discussed in the video links below...

Which device or combination of devices is best for your creative process. In this video, I want to talk about the features and benefits of each device, but more than anything I want to talk about the usefulness of each device because I think this is what will ultimately help you make the right buying decision!

iPad Pro (
amzn.to/2P46D2w )
iPad ( amzn.to/2yggknF )
Apple Pencil ( amzn.to/2y5LfCR )

Wacom Intuos Pro ( amzn.to/2QlApQH )
Wacom Intuos ( amzn.to/2QqHkbw )

I don't believe there is a perfect answer to this question. There is not a one fits all solution. I think that whoever is looking for one of these devices has a specific lifestyle that would fit well with one of these choices.

A lot of people are wondering if the iPad better than Wacom Tablet or is the Wacom Tablet better than iPad? Should Let's jump into the content talking about the Wacom Tablet Vs iPads and see which device is right for you. Should you buy the iPad Pro/iPad or the Wacom Tablet?

1. iPad
The iPad paired with the Apple Pencil is a great device for anyone who finds themselves commuting by train, bus, Uber, or plane. Basically, they are on the go a lot and they have time to sketch, and brainstorm ideas. It is a small device for tight spaces making it the prime candidate for this lifestyle.

Apple has done a great job with their pen (Pencil) making it responsive to pressure sensitivity and palm recognition. From a specification standpoint, this is a very well engineered product. The way technology is today I am not concerned about any of these products being good enough to purchase. They are all excellent choices. the question is which one fits your needs.

2. Wacom Tablet
The Wacom Tablet is something I am most confident using and what I mean by confident is I like the feel and experience of using a Wacom Tablet. It is a very intuitive device. It is a device I have used for a long time and it has been very beneficial to me. There are a few big reasons that I like the Wacom over the Apple iPad / Pencil combination.

The first reason is posture. A lot of times when we are using touchscreen devices we can easily get gravitate towards bad posture. This is dangerous. Spending hours and hours at a desk and behind a screen is dangerous enough as it is, but then add in hunching over a screen and you multiply the damage. A Wacom Tablet allows you to retain appropriate posture as you work.

The second reason I like this device so much is that it has a very natural feel when you slid the Pen across the surface of the Wacom Tablet. IT resists similar to how the paper would resist it is not stick rather coarse. So it mimics that paper like feel we all adore. The Wacom Tablet is an excellent Hybrid between sketching digitally and on a piece of paper.

Balancing Fatherhood, YouTube, and a Full Time Career with Benjamin Brandon

⏩ What are YOU currently struggling with? Can I help? You can submit a question in the form and I will get back with you pronto!

Often times I struggle to balance my day and my mind on my goals with my family, my career, and my YouTube channel. I am not a good multi-thinker. I struggle with a one-track mind. If I am passionate about something it often consumes my mind, so with that in mind I have to be extremely intentional with my family in order to be a successful husband and father.

But what about balancing a full-time career and trying to grow a side business? These things are important as well in order to live a balanced and successful life. Well, I hope that Benjamin and I can offer you some sound advice through our experiences and over the past few years running our YouTube Channels, pursuing fatherhood and working full-time careers.

What are you currently struggling with in your professional, personal, or creative pursuits? Can we share any more advice that would be insightful to you? We really enjoy collaborating on these conversations and would love to do more of these collaborations if they are helpful to you.

Dell G7 Graphic Designers Review

Dell G7 Graphic Designers Review

Talking about the Dell G7 in this video, the question stands, is the Dell G7 a good laptop for graphic design? This is a graphic designers review of the Dell G7, let's talk about it...

⏩ Get the Dell G7 (
amzn.to/2QAZB5K )

Does the Dell G7 bring enough power and usability to make a great graphic design laptop, and on a medium-sized budget? This is not a cheap laptop by any means but it does fall under the budget category in my perspective?

In this review, I am going to look at four essential aspects of the Dell G7 to test it's ability to stand as a worthy graphic design laptop: Connectivity, Usability, Performance, and Durability.

1. Connectivity

Connectivity is the first aspect I am going to talk about with the Dell G7. It is important to consider the ports available on the side of the laptop when you are making a buying decision. I use the ports on the side of my Dell laptop daily, if not multiple times per day so I find it essential to have the available ports that make my day more productive.

The ports available on the sides of the Dell G7 are HDMI, USB, USB-C, Thunderbolt, SD Card, and Headphone jack. In my opinion, this graphic design laptop contender has everything you need to call itself a suitable fit for designers.

2. Usability

How important is it that you have a laptop that is usable and easy to maneuver from your home to the office, from class to class, or from airport to airport? For some graphic designers and creatives, in general, it is essential to have a lightweight machine that is easy to carry from place to place. The Dell G7 is not a thin laptop in my opinion compared to say the Dell XPS 15 or the MacBook Pro. So if you are looking for an ultra-thin laptop look elsewhere.

The Dell G7 is not a thin laptop, but this could pay off to be a substantial benefit to someone less concerned with weight and size and more concerned with performance. (Coming later in the post)

3. Performance

The Dell G7 has great connectivity, decent usability, but what about its performance. Is this laptop equipped to handle the heavy lifting of programs like Photoshop, After Effects and Premiere Pro?

The Dell G7 comes with 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, the 8th Generation i7 Processor, and a GTX 1060 Max-Q Graphic Processing Unit. This computer is not only up to par but supersedes my benchmark for a qualified graphic design laptop. Remember early when I was talking about the Thickness and weight of the Dell G7 being a possible benefit to someone looking for performance over usability. Well, because this laptop is thicker than most laptops featured to graphic designers it allows the powerful GTX 1060 Max-Q Graphics Processing Unit to receive more breathing room. This allows the fans to work with far better efficiency, allowing the laptop to run cooler and faster!

4. Durability

The Dell G7 has a build quality that is a step below the laptops I wholly stand behind. Because most of the high-end laptops offer a mix of metal-alloy or metal-alloy plus carbon fiber this laptop does not quite kick the budget category. But if it was built with Metal and Carbon than you would not have such a great buy on your hands at the price. So, in this case, you have to look at the performance of the machine more than the aesthetics. A soft and durable sleeve plus careful hands will keep this machine protected.
