S4 Ep 10 - Why hypnobirthing works with psychologist Dr Jenna Brough
In this episode I talk to qualified clinical psychologist Dr Jenna Brough about fear and the effects it has on birth. We discuss our own birth experiences, and how the effect of fear and lack of knowledge may have affected our decision making processes in birth, and why sometimes a certain level of fear can be beneficial. If you'd like to speak to Jenna, you can find her at https://www.instagram.com/tribepsychology/. The Better Birth podcast is hosted by hypnobirthing and antenatal teacher Erin Fung. S4 Ep 09 - Birth rights with Emma Ashworth
In this important episode I speak to Doula, Author, AIMS trustee and birth rights activist Emma Ashworth about the importance of knowing your rights in pregnancy and birth. Emma is a passionate and knowledgable speaker and author on this topic, having written the AIMS UK book on your rights in pregnancy and birth, and who also runs classes for both expectant parents and birth workers alike on this topic. We discuss why knowing your rights is so important, the kind of situations you will come across during pregnancy and birth which will require you to understand your rights, what consent is, how to feel confident in advocating for yourself, and tips on how to work with your care providers. If you'd like to book on to one of Emma's courses, you can find details here: https://developingdoulas.co.uk/product/consent-rights-in-childbirth/ You can find Emma on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/emma_ashworth_birth_rights/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/emmaashworthdoula You can also buy a copy of Emma's book the AIMS guide to your rights in pregnancy and birth here: https://www.aims.org.uk/shop/item/aims-guide-to-your-rights-in-pregnancy-birth The Better Birth podcast is hosted by hypnobirthing and antenatal teacher Erin Fung. S4 Ep 08 - Angharad's positive birth story
In this episode I hear all about Angharad's home birth. Although she planned to have her baby at home, she hadn't anticipated the birth to progress so quickly, and she ended up free birthing with no medical assistance other than the 999 call handler. We discuss how the preparation she'd put in beforehand gave her the knowledge and power to trust her body, stay calm, and ignore the well intentioned but potentially unhelpful advice of the 999 call handler, meaning she helped herself and her baby in the final stages of labour. The Better Birth podcast is hosted by hypnobirthing and antenatal teacher Erin Fung. You can find out more about Erin at www.better-birth.co.uk as well as on instagram and Facebook @betterbirthuk.

S4 Ep 07 - Leanne’s positive birth stories
Trigger warning: third stage labour manual removal and haemorrhage. In this episode I chat to fellow hypnobirthing instructor Leanne about her two positive births. Leanne talks about how positive and memorable her births were, and how important hypnobirthing was in achieving this. However her third stage of labour with both births did not go as planned, and whilst the experience post birth was difficult, she still feels positive about the experience and chats to me about why. While the post birth did not go to plan, her stories are powerful examples of why birth prep and having tools to stay calm and in control is so important. The Better Birth podcast is hosted by hypnobirthing and antenatal teacher Erin Fung. You can find out more about Erin at www.better-birth.co.uk as well as on instagram and Facebook @betterbirthuk.

S4 Ep 06 - What is physiological birth - with Kemi Johnson
What is physiological birth, and why does it matter so much? In this episode, I chat to independent midwife, hypnobirthing teacher, birth worker and activist Kemi Johnson, about physiological birth, what it is, and why it's becoming so rare. With ever increasing rates of medicalisation of birth, from induction to c-section birth, a physiological or natural birth is becoming rarer and rarer, and the impact this has long term physically and mentally on both parents and their babies is potentially massive. We discuss why it's so important parents are informed and empowered, and why Kemi and I are so passionate about facilitating the birth process through education. If you'd like to follow Kemi and find out about her many groups and chats she hosts, go to https://www.instagram.com/kemibirthjoyjohnson/ The Better Birth podcast is hosted by hypnobirthing and antenatal teacher Erin Fung. She hit a few speed bumps along the way which we discussed and she made informed decisions about, and went on to have a very speedy but unexpected and empowering birth in the hospital car park! This is a birth story you do not want to miss out on! She is a total badass, her partner Frankie was THE model birth partner, and she utterly bossed her birth! What she didn't realise was how much what she learnt on her course would empower her to advocate for herself and her baby when induction was suggested, which she declined.
