Episode 121: I didn't make room for doubts; they made their own room, w/ Sara Fisk
Sara Bybee Fisk is a Master Certified Coach and Instructor who teaches women how to tame the rampant people pleasing, perfectionism and codependency that is causing them so much frustration and resentment.
She is an anxious optimist and born again feminist who listens to more books than she actually sits down to read. She loves a good hike, good dark chocolate and good conversations.
Her big dreams include learning to sail and to sing and dance like JLo and helping thousands of women create the big, juicy lives they want to be living. She is a wife and mom of 5 and she enjoys those roles most of the time. Connect with Sara here:

Episode 118: Turning "us vs. them" into "WE" with Michelle Peper
Michelle was raised in Southern Idaho in an active LDS family that goes back six generations in Mormonism. She and her husband, Bob, were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1985 and have raised 3 amazing children and have 2 adorable grandchildren. After actively attending and serving in the LDS church for over 4 decades, Michelle and Bob found themselves experiencing a transition in their faith and together left the church last October. Along with her husband, Michelle has found a new religious community in the First Congregational United Church of Christ and is currently in the process of redefining what religion, God, and meaning making look like in her life. During this faith transition, Michelle felt a need to document the process and share her experiences, so she created an Instagram account under the handle @edge_of_inside where she has found healing and friendship with many others deconstructing their faith. One of the meaningful ways Michelle has found to find purpose since leaving the church is through her volunteer work as a crisis counselor with The Trevor Project. She finds this work, although a bit intimidating, to be one of the most rewarding and challenging things she has ever done. Some of the things Michelle enjoys are music, dogs, soapmaking, hiking and pickleball. Connect with Michelle on Instagram: @edge_of_inside

"To empower the world to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community through visibility, education, and conversation." -Mission freemomhugs.org
Sara Cunningham is an author, activist, and founder of the non-profit organization Free Mom Hugs. Her journey is a surprising one that began in conservative Oklahoma, when her son, Parker, came out as gay. In the wake of beautiful glitter-covered hugs and heart-breaking horror stories, the mission of Free Mom Hugs began. Simple acts of love and acceptance turned into a viral sensation, and Sara knew she had the opportunity to lead impactful change.
Free Mom Hugs is now a movement across the country and the world. Sara is the embodiment of a core value of Free Mom Hugs:
At Free Mom Hugs, we affirm the LGBTQIA+ community as an important part of our society. We believe they deserve full equality and freedom of expression. The foundation of everything we do is motivated by unconditional love.

Episode 107: Jesus didn't care about offending the Pharisees, with David of @_mindful_faith
David is a critical care physician, outdoor enthusiast and amateur scenic photographer who was born into the church and was a devout member for decades until his children became teenagers and experienced harm from the church institution.
Trying to see the church through their eyes expanded his view to the diverse ways it hurts many saints. He became particularly alarmed by seeing the ways that queer saints have been harmed by evolving doctrine and policy, and in 2022 began sharing his thoughts through an anonymous Instagram account (@_mindful_faith_) on how to redirect the body of Christ toward the ideal of Zion, where all feel equally cherished and supported.
The account was discovered by family members and shared with church authorities because of its critiques of current doctrines and policies that cause harm, which resulted in excommunication for apostasy.
He decided that would not derail his efforts to help church members, former members, and those straddling the boundary in between, to process the dissonance between their own spiritual compass and the religion that has had such a profound influence on their lives.
He has chosen to keep his surname private because of the traumatic invasion of privacy he experienced in the process of his account being used to expel him from the church and estrange him from family and friends.

Quote from J. Rueben Clark mentioned in the episode:
“If we have the truth, it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed.”

Episode 105: Emmaus Ministry Devotional, Co-existing faith part 2
Today's episode is a recording of a devotional I was asked to give for the Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry on January 21, 2024. It is an extension of Episode #95 Co-existing Faith. I would love to know your thoughts after listening.
The Emmaus LGBTQ Ministry operates on these two principles:
1) It is crucial for the well being of LGBTQ individuals to be able to live in a space where their faith, spirituality and religion can co-exist with their identity as LGBTQ. Forcing a choice between one or the other creates trauma and unhealthy emotional, relational and spiritual patterns.
2) There is value in encouraging spiritual practice and connection and inclusion in a spiritual community even when individuals are not perfectly conforming with church norms.
According to board member Sytske Woodhouse, Jr, "We try to remember those two principles as we operate. We value all people’s paths and [also] everyone’s personal revelation we honor."

Episode 100: The year of discomfortable 2023
2023 has been the year of DISCOMFORTABLE. That’s the word of the year I chose for myself in January 2023.
I wrote, “Time to normalize that it’s not a problem to feel discomfort. The only time it is, is when YOU make it a problem. This year I’m leaning in hard to all things discomfort until they become ‘discomfortable.’”
As a result and true to my word, I have consciously pushed myself from my comfort zone to the zone of discomfort. Significant discomfort.
I have learned to listen to myself and be better in tune when to step back or give myself time and space AND alternatively when to push.

Episode 94: The power of "AND" with Liz & Ryan creators of @the.fourth.option
Liz and Ryan (@the.fourth.option) were both raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Neither of them realized they were gay until they accidentally fell in love as roommates at Brigham Young University, a church-sponsored school. Both returned missionaries with strong testimonies of Jesus Christ, Liz and Ryan struggled to figure out how their faith of origin intersected with their queerness. Over time, they felt guided to embrace both integral parts of themselves--and each other.
They have now been married for two and a half years, have two dogs, and are preparing to become foster parents. Liz is a certified teacher who currently runs an outdoor education program, and Ryan is an EMT and will be starting occupational therapy school this fall. In their spare time, they love playing board games, doing puzzles, watching movies, and rock climbing.
They also run an Instagram account where they share their experiences as a queer couple continuing to participate in church. We hope you follow along in their journey and join the growing community of LGBTQIA+ folks and allies who are trying to reclaim space at their church communities.

Ep 93: Personal revelation Part 2: How it lead me to my book coach/medium Keira Brinton
Learning to be in tune with God — the Divine — and receiving personal revelation is a skill that takes practice. It’s possible some believe it’s supposed to “come naturally” but this simply isn’t true. With practice of anything, we increase in our skill level. The same is true of learning and trying out steps to receive personal revelation.

I believe you cannot have one without the other. You cannot have personal revelation, inner wisdom, personal authority without first having questions and doubts.

Episode 78: Halloween Scaries: Cleaning out the skeletons in the closet
"If you resist leaning into the discomfort of whatever you’re feeling when someone shares something that you don’t agree with, don’t have a lot of experience with, don’t know much about and so on….. ask yourself am I in emotional childhood or adulthood?
Without this awareness we will not truly be able minister to one another. A person in need who is sharing their heart does not need to pay the price of your discomfort; and that 'price' can be high."
-Meagan Skidmore, Episode #78 Halloween Scaries: Cleaning the skeletons out of the closet. In October, I'm talking about some of the "scary stuff" that comes as part of a faith journey. What else do you find "scary" or uncomfortable as part of your faith journey?
