Over-reliance on online relationships including social media: Part of the My World podcast series

Over-reliance on online relationships including social media: Part of the My World podcast series

Hi everyone, Welcome to another BHCS My World Podcast.

In this episode we get to  hear from Mrs Moore - our IT specialist in the school and she gets to discuss the dangers of  our over reliance on online relationships including social media

Some of the topics it gets us to think about are : What are the potential benefits and risks associated with internet use, in particular social networking sites?; Why might someone act out of character to increase their online popularity? What are the consequences of making online comments/posts/posting photos rather than sharing things in an off-line way?

I hope it gets you thinking a bit more about the world around you and the part you play in it

Enjoy listening.

Human Happiness & Stable Relationships: Part of the MY WORLD podcast series

Hi everyone, Welcome to another BHCS My World Podcast.

In this episode we get to talk to Mr Beeching,  who has a wealth of experience in supporting young people to  overcome challenges and be the very best version of themselves.

This episode is a conversation about  different types of committed, stable relationships and how they contribute to human happiness and the importance for bringing up children. Some of the things it will get you think about are

What do we mean by human happiness?; What does a stable and healthy relationship look like?; What are the benefits of a stable long-term relationship when bringing up children? and What are the potential consequences of an unplanned pregnancy?

Enjoy listening

Volunteering: part of the MY WORLD podcast series

Volunteering: part of the MY WORLD podcast series

Hello BHCS students

I hope you are safe and well.

It is time for another MY WORLD Podcast to listen and reflect on . This week it is all about Volunteering. Did you know that during Covid 19, Within 24 hours of a governmental call for citizens to join the NHS ‘volunteer army’, 500,000 people had signed up? By early April, over 750,000 were enlisted and started undertaking tasks such as delivering medication from pharmacies, driving patients to appointments, or making regular phone calls to isolated individuals. These are ways the adults volunteered but there are also ways you as a student can volunteer.

Volunteers often claim that they get as much back from their efforts as the individuals they are supporting. Evidence also shows that volunteering also allows  people to build confidence and self-esteem and to learn new skills.

Here is a pre-recorded podcast which I have pulled out of the archives because I think its very relevant in these strange times.  Enjoy listening to year 9 Rachel and Meghan interviewing the one and only Mr Du-Heaume on the importance of volunteering

Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing: part of the MY WORLD podcast series

Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing: part of the MY WORLD podcast series

Hello everyone and welcome to another My World podcast
This week’s topic is talking about mental health; emotional wellbeing and body image.
We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health. Being mentally healthy means that: we feel good about ourselves and we can make and keep positive relationships with others
Some things that might harm our mental health are: having friendship difficulties such as lots of arguments; feeling worried about the health of a friend or family member or being bullied
It is important to remember that just as our mental health can suffer during difficult times in our life, it can also recover. You could try writing down how you feel; reach out to others who are struggling; be kind to yourself; speak to someone you trust and ask for help
As it is Mental Health Awareness Week from 18-24 May, I thought it was time to share with you this fantastic pre-recorded podcast with a year 9 Student interviewing Mr Penney
It is wonderfully uplifting.
Take care and Stay safe

Loss, Grief and Bereavement: Part of the MY WORLD Podcast Series

Hello everyone and welcome to another My World podcast.

I hope you are all keeping well and safe.

Being cut off from family, friends and communities because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is difficult for everyone, but especially for families who are grieving for a loved one. Losing someone important to you is one of the hardest things to experience in life. But we want you to know support and advice are available to help you get through it, here at your school there are people trained and ready to listen and outside in the community This is why I thought this pre-recorded podcast - recorded earlier this year would be very relevant for us all to listen to now.

Sit back and listen to the excellent advice being shared.

Take care
