This Ride Had it All

This Ride Had it All

The trip from Murnau to Plansee and back to Füssen was one of extremes, both the riding and the nature around us. If you want an exciting day on the trail, this is the ride for you. This was an instant favorite for us!

Cycling Nourishment

Cycling Nourishment

Our first ride in 2024 was a banger! 56 km of forest, fields, and farms — with a view of some castles and plenty of mountains. Füssen to Murnau should be on everyone’s cycling short list.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 14: Neumarkt to Brombachsee

Today we decided to call off the tour, though only a day early. The European heatwave we are experiencing this last week just became too unhealthy to continue riding all day. Seeing 48C on our Wahoo GPS was a novelty for a while, until it was clear the heat was too much.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 13: Regensburg to Neumarkt

Years ago, we rode a local route to train a bit for longer tours. It was a 30 km loop with about 300 m climbing. At the time, we figured that was enough for our untrained, unfit bodies. Today's route, 76 km and 780 m of hills felt the same as those past training rides, but we made it and survived rather tired but alright. It seems we are improving.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 12: Deggendorf to Regensburg

Sometimes a tour day is just weird, or a bit crazy, and that’s what we got today. The day had two long detours from the Donauradweg, the cycle path we are taking these few days. We were routed far away from the river into lonely farms and forests villages. It added about 15 km to our tour, pushing our ride to 97 km - and we had some other surprises, too.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 11: Passau to Deggendorf

Cyclists list rain and wind as their least favorite weather while on the road. Today we got a large dose of in-your-face wind the entire trip. The landscape was flat and mainly featureless, with the wind relentlessly whipping at our ears. Arriving in Deggendorf was more a surrender than a triumph.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 10: Salzburg to Passau

Our longest day so far at 188 km proved to be a thrilling ride, with a stronger pace despite the 800 m of climbing. It was a beautiful landscape the entire way. Seeing Passau in the distance just before the last descent is right out of a movie.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 9: Bischofshofen to Salzburg

Riding through a mountain pass, even one that’s not so high in elevation, is always a bit thrilling. The clouds come closer and the cold air washes over you. The descent is exciting. Alas, there are no more passes in our tour, so a steep farm road will have to fulfill our thrill-seeking descents.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 8: Spittal an der Drau to Bischofshofen

Bad Gastein is an incredible site to see. The city is perched on a semicircular gorge with a roaring waterfall plunging through the center. The upper falls are right at the street, the lower falls are a torrent of water crashing into a lagoon pool before swiftly heading downstream. It’s a unique place.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 7: Lienz to Spittal an der Drau

Gravel madness! 30 km of awesome gravel tracks, up and down, plus nice smooth bike lanes deep in the forest. We had it all today on an energetic ride with exciting hills and beautiful vistas.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 6: Bruneck to Lienz

Big nature. That’s today's theme. We rode through forests, in tunnels, along rivers, over hills (a lot), and screamed down a 40 km valley to Lienz. Oh, and we found a pro mountain bike race, too. Fun times.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 5: Sterzing to Bruneck

Sometimes you just know that something is special while you're doing it. That was the feeling on the tour today. The route to Bruneck winds up and down the hills along the Rienz River, sometimes steeply, other times flat and peaceful. Not a single kilometer disappoints.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 4: Innsbruck to Sterzing

Our first cycle crossing on the Brenner Pass, and it was amazing. Huge landscape views, lots of small villages and farms, and hills - lots of hills. Plus a coffee just when we needed one.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 3: Garmisch to Innsbruck

Now I know why I’ve never seen a review of a bike tour from Garmisch to Innsbruck. Despite the never ending views of the mountains in every direction, and how nice Seefeld is, this route is not for the average cyclist on a summer ride.

Summer Tour 2022 Day 2: Ammersee to Partenkirchen

Garmisch is a great place to visit, it has a wonderful downtown, many historic buildings, and lots of restaurants and bars and almost every kind of food you can imagine that you’d like to eat. The buildings are historic and many have painted walls with large murals.

The Perfect Bavarian Bike Ride

The Perfect Bavarian Bike Ride

Summer Tour 2022 Day 1: Augsburg to Ammersee

That was a hot day that we will long remember. The first day on the summer tour and we had the “summer” part all day. The landscape is perfectly typical Bavarian, with farms and forests, rivers and lakes.
