Ever been curious about the career paths of BIMM lecturers? They've all had and continue to have interesting and varied roles in the music industry, often taking unexpected twists and turns to get where they have. In this podcast series we find out more about the people who are the heart and soul of your BIMM experience! In this episode we talk to George Hutchison. George is course leader for Popular Music Performance at
BIMM Institute Manchester. His career began in the late eighties with Glasgow band 'Horse' who were signed to EMI then MCA, releasing two successful albums and several singles in Europe and America. Joining Liverpool band River City People provided further chart success in the nineties before he subsequently developed a career as a songwriter for EMI music publishing.
Collaborating with Grammy award winning producers and recording with some of the most renowned session musicians in the world, music written by George has featured in major American TV series' and films as well as achieving platinum sales.
Throughout his career he has toured worldwide headlining theatres and arenas as well providing tour support to Tina Turner, BB King and Cher and playing main stages on festivals like Glastonbury, V, Sonisphere with Neil Young, Metallica and Green Day.

In this podcast series we find out more about the people who are the heart and soul of your BIMM experience!

In this episode we talk to John McCready, Course Leader for Music Journalism at BIMM Manchester.

John had long associations as a music writer with NME, The Face, Mojo, Word, Radio Times and MixMag. He currently works for Electronic Sound and is writing a book about the Liverpool punk scene. He worked at BBC Television as a Producer and was Music Consultant on many programmes- among them documentaries on the Beach Boys and The Carpenters.

He was Programme Consultant on C4’s acclaimed John Lennon Night.

John also worked as a Press Officer and won  industry awards creating campaigns for Network Records- working with Detroit Techno heroes, Inner City and rave chart stars Altern 8. He is a former Hacienda DJ- having been resident for 5 years in the club’s Gay Traitor bar. John is currently working on a set of sleeve notes to accompany a major New Order rerelease campaign and research papers on Journalism in dance culture and the Situationist thread in popular music. He has led, lectured on and created music, Journalism and media based academic courses at Liverpool John Moores, Leeds College Of Music, Salford University, Edge Hill University, Staffordshire University, Leeds Trinity, Huddersfield University, News Associates and School of Sound Recording in Manchester.

They've all had and continue to have interesting and varied roles in the music industry, often taking unexpected twists and turns to get where they have.  In this podcast series we find out more about the people who are the heart and soul of your BIMM experience!  

 Kojo Osei is Deputy FE Course Leader at BIMM Manchester.  Kojo is a Mancunian born, London bred DJ, dance music producer & artist manager who has worked alongside many highly regarded artists, such as Goldie, Noisia, Pendulum, Andy C and Chase & Status.  He is most notably known for being one half of underground Drum & Bass production duo Dawn Raid, and has released music alongside some of the most revered artists in the genre, most notably on legendary DJ Randall’s imprints, MAC II and Stepback Sessions. 

Sue Quin is a principal lecturer in vocals at BIMM Manchester and has been working professionally in the music industry for 35 years and is a highly experienced session singer, performer, songwriter, arranger, music tutor and vocal coach. In 1979 she signed a recording deal with Pye Records, producing an album and two singles. Publishing deals followed with Pye, EMI and Warner/Chappell, as did songs for Sheena Easton, Sad Café, Little Foxes and Lena Zavaroni.

Outside of BIMM Damian, born and raised in Manchester, has worked in the music industry for over 20 years. He has worked as a self-employed live booking agent and manager, representing members of Happy Mondays, The Smiths, Oasis and The Specials. He currently co-owns Autonomy Tours, and manages Heavenly Recordings signees, The Orielles and Julia Bardo on Wichita Records.
