In this episode, Kim Zar Bloorian and Yaakov Zar speak to Executive Director and self-proclaimed C-PACE Guy, Adam Lipkin of Counterpointe Sustainable Real Estate. Adam discusses the intricacies of the C-PACE Space, some market updates and how to stay positive and focused. 

Adam Lipkin is an Executive Director with Counterpointe Sustainable Real Estate, a Hannon Armstrong partner. Hannon (NYSE: HASI) is the first clean energy REIT in the country and has over $6B Assets Under Management along with an annual closed transaction volume exceeding a billion dollars. Counterpointe is a leading national direct capital provider of Commercial PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) and Adam is one of the most active originators nationally with nearly $50 million closed in the last 12 months and another $50 million closing within the next 90 days.

A South Florida native, Adam has worked in the commercial real estate finance industry since 2002, mostly as a capital advisor. He got his start conducting due diligence, analysis and valuation work with Ernst & Young in the New York-based Real Estate Advisory Group and then at LNR Property based Miami Beach. Adam entered the brokerage world as a capital advisor in the Miami office of HFF. He was part of the top team there that set firm records nationally for deals closed and fees earned in 2005 and 2006. Together with the team from HFF, Adam went on to help start Olympian Capital Group, which was a boutique advisory business that did more than $2 billion in senior debt, mezzanine debt, preferred equity and joint venture equity volume. Prior to joining Counterpointe, Adam was arranging debt and structured finance with Grandbridge Real Estate Capital for several years.

Adam graduated from the University of Florida with a Master's degree in accounting. He is a former CPA. He lives with his wife and one year old baby girl in Surfside, FL.

Elliot Horowitz is the founder and managing member of H Equities LLC, a real estate investment company based in Brooklyn, New York, providing senior loans, mezzanine loans, preferred equity as well as GP and LP equity on land, multifamily, mixed-use properties and development projects. H Equities started investing in Brooklyn in 2011 and expanded to Manhattan, the Bronx, Yonkers, New Jersey, Atlanta and Miami.

During his career, Horowitz has closed and consulted on commercial real estate acquisitions and loans with an aggregate value of over $800 million with sophisticated real estate investors and partners, many of whom are close friends and family. With extensive experience sourcing debt and equity investment opportunities, Horowitz can conduct and oversee the financial analysis, due diligence and underwriting of potential principal investments.

The Baruch College graduate lives in Brooklyn with his family. In his spare time, he is active in a variety of charitable organizations.

In this episode, Kim Zar Bloorian and Yaakov Zar speak to Ran Eliasaf, the founder and Managing Partner of the Northwind Group about Northwind's resilience during this time, their recent fund and how to progress your career. 

Ran founded Northwind, a real estate private equity firm in 2008. Ran oversees all company activities including deal originations, acquisitions, development, construction, asset management, loan servicing, property management, leasing, financing, and disposition. Since Northwind’s inception, Ran has been involved in  the development, acquisition, and financing of over $2.5 billion worth of real estate.

From 2010 to 2016, under Ran’s leadership, Northwind concentrated on the acquisition and development of income producing assets held by long-term owners, predominantly in Manhattan. During this time, Northwind acquired 1.75mm SF of real estate. In 2017, recognizing a peak in the Manhattan market, Ran developed Northwind’s lending platform. Through the lending platform, Northwind originates and acquires first and second position debt instruments secured by real estate assets in the form of acquisition, bridge, condo-inventory, distress, rescue, NPL, and other special situation financing. Additionally, in 2016 Northwind developed a strategy of investing in and providing financing for healthcare and senior living opportunities. Northwind’s current senior living and healthcare portfolio includes 14 properties totaling around 2,500 beds, and is valued at ~$500 million.

Prior to founding Northwind, Ran co-founded and served as CEO of EXRE, the real estate investment platform of one of Israel's largest family offices. Ran is a retired Captain in the Israeli Navy and sits on the Board of American Friends of Natal, a non-profit aiding people suffering from PTSD. Ran received an LLB in International Law and BA in Finance from IDC in Israel.

Michael Ramin is the head of Business Development at Sharestates. Since taking over this position in 2014. Michael has created alliances with some of the country’s largest real estate developers and investors. To date, Michael’s team has closed over $2.5 Billion in loan volume nationwide.

Prior to Sharestates, Michael managed over 4,000 commercial and industrial properties for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York. Michael negotiated the acquisition and disposition of properties requisite to expanding and improving the transportation network for the MTA. Michael’s extensive knowledge and experience in sales and marketing have helped Shatestates become one of the nation’s largest private lenders in the real estate industry.

Daniel Nadri is the co-founder, co-owner and managing member of Hakimian Capital (“Hakimian”), a direct private real estate lender in the New York metropolitan area. Since launching Hakimian Capital in May of 2018, Mr. Nadri has helped Hakimian originate over $100 Million in bridge loans. Mr. Nadri oversees all aspects of the business including loan originations, loan servicing, balance sheet management, investor relations, and property management of real estate owned.

Prior to launching Hakimian Capital, Mr. Nadri began his real estate lending career at Titan Capital in 2014 and was responsible for debt structuring, loan origination, and credit analysis. He worked closely with Titan’s senior partners in the underwriting and analysis of all new investment opportunities, including loan origination, distressed debt acquisitions and equity participations. Additionally, Mr. Nadri was responsible for asset management, dispositions, and development oversight of properties the firm owns in addition to the management of multiple municipal tax lien portfolios throughout New York and Connecticut. Over the course of his career at Titan Capital, Mr. Nadri was involved in originating and underwriting over $1 billion in debt transactions.

Prior to joining Titan Capital, Mr. Nadri worked as a Real Estate Salesperson at Greiner Maltz, focusing on investment property sales throughout the northern region of Brooklyn. Mr. Nadri is a graduate of Baruch College where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the Zicklin School of Business.

Prior to joining Arbor, Mr. Short worked as a real estate broker at First Choice Realty in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Short graduated from Boston University’s School of Management with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Business Administration.
