Black Butterfly Podcast… a Black Woman's Politics

By Drina O’

Welcome to the third season of Black Butterfly Podcast…a space where Black/Brown women can come to feel empowered, understood, and validated. I‘ve got something to say and I’m bringing it to the mic. I started this podcast to reach out and relate to women like me, that look like me, that had similar upbringings, similar life experiences. These similarities are how we identify, emphasize, and sympathize with one another.

Be sure to listen out for new segments and a new lineup this season including WTF Wednesdays.

And, remember to always Fly Black Butterfly Fly!

The first day of Fall officially falls (no pun intended) on September 22...but the "Sun Signs" of a new season is upon us. The kids are back in school! Hallelujah! The day temps feel a little cooler and the night air feels a little crisp. Soon the leaves will begin to change into those beautiful dark hues of red, brown, yellow and orange. In tonight's episode we talk about some of the things that reminds us that the days of Summer are gone. We give our condolences to the family of Michael Kenneth Williams, a talented actor and all around beloved brother. We also pay tribute and remember the nation's tragedy - 911. We remember loved ones lost and wish all the Virgos a Happy Birthday. Until next time, this is your host, Drina O'Neill saying, "Fly, Black Butterfly, Fly!"

ANNOUNCING BLACK GIRLS MISSING Series...| an Urgent Crisis: Black Mothers & Daughters Unheard, Unseen, and Under Siege l

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.
The coverage of U.S. Black Girls Missing in the media does not match the data. With Black women representing only 13% of the total population, yet 41% of us fall victim to assault, domestic abuse, kidnapping, rape, murder, sex trafficking, etc., the reality is there's an urgent crisis. Black mothers and daughters are going missing unheard, unseen, and under siege. Black Butterfly Podcast is stepping out as a descriptive and substantive representation of Black Girls Missing and it pledges to do its part to change the narrative by shining a light on the Black Girls Missing crisis.

Education Reinvention Bill Needed for Our Kids | EPISODE #12

Education Reinvention Bill Needed for Our Kids - Now In order to build a stronger, more self-efficient country, we must first be willing to change. To build a progressive and competitive society, our most important challenge is to change its antiquated educational system. In every political administration, education must be first and foremost. Without a strong and revitalized educational system, we (as a country) will never progress to greatness nor be able to alleviate any of our other ills.

Don’t get it confused - feminism is very different from femininity. And there's a difference between sex and sexuality.  Sex positive femininity is a crucial component of any female's identity and goes beyond just sex with their partner(s) (male or female); it is a mindset that allows them to be their most authentic self.  Yet, when it comes to Black women and their sex lives the negative impact of social and cultural beliefs, gender biases, and myths and stereotypes often leaves us feeling inadequate, insecure, and unworthy.  Let's talk about it!
