Setting Intentions for 2020 with Plants!
Episode 6 wraps up 2019 with a pod roll call saluting some great black podcasts that influenced Black in the Garden (listed below) and a quote from a contemporary negrolosopher to put it all into perspective. We talk with Wes, founder of The Salt Lounge of Long Beach and learn how we all can benefit from a few visits to his soul spa IRL and the SoulWerk online Academy to get our chakras laid like fine baby hairs. Wes discusses how he went from failed attempts at planting flowers to talking to plants as self care. He helps us prepare for the upcoming decade by sharing his tips for setting intentions with plants, how to 'program seeds'  to get our manifestation on and how to use plants to honor ancestors. Thee D.O.P.E. Episode
On episode 5 Colah B Tawkin takes us down memory lane with a tribute to collard greens and a shout out to the ancestors. We welcome some Alpha male energy with our first Botanical Brotha to guest on the show: Geoffrey from Depend on Planet Earth. It's the D.O.P.E. episode y'all! *airhorns* Geoffrey shared his inspirational origin story about losing his mother and gaining a renewed purpose that put him on the path to plantrepreneurship and community service. He literally switched from fast food to slow food; cause growing is a process that  should include a Chia Pet. We also chopped it up about keeping it real with the kids about shady produce origins to encourage the practice of organic gardening.  Geoffrey schooled us on how to save the pollinators by planting more flowers in our gardens from nature's sperm bank. We also salute our ancestors Tupac and Biggie with a reference to Pak choi and get some winter growing suggestions. In the end, we agree to disagree on one winter vegetable! . . . Plant Tea with the PlantBlerd!
On Episode 4 of Black in the Garden we take a beat to get into the origin story of the podcast as Colah B Tawkin recounts a few ways life tried to drag her during her pursuit of Black Excellence. This week we are joined by the illustrious Soil Sista: The PlantBlerd, Kamili, to get into some black nerd culture like #DemThrones and the unique ways we blackily engage on social media as Blerds. We discuss plantfluencership and why so many of us create 'Instagram duality' via an alternative page to fully indulge our houseplant stanning in the digital green 'hood. Kamili dropped several gems, such as a life lesson from a fiddle leaf fig plant and even had time to quote Alice Walker! We discussed her #MonsteraBoo and how she acquired a Pink Princess philodendron named Grace Jones. Getchu some tea and get into this planty plantTEA, boo!

Get the switch!
Black in the Garden is a podcast that resides at the intersection of Black Culture and horticulture  in a world where all the garden fairies and most of the gnomes are white. Hosted by millennial black plant enthusiast and self proclaimed Plantrepreneur, Colah B Tawkin. 'Conversations WILL be had' on a range of topics that directly influence and impact black plant keepers as we blackily impact and influence the world.   This episode/trailer is planting the seed for many conversations to come; touching on involuntary gardening and a theory on 'plant derived' black trauma that can only be healed by good old fashioned plant therapy. We have so much to unpack!  Follow @blackinthegarden in IG and Tune in weekly! Send any questions, concerns or feedback to blackinthegarden@gmail.com
