Hairy Ideas Salon is making Change in New Brunswick

Hairy Ideas Salon is making Change in New Brunswick

👸🏿 Black Hair 💇🏾‍♀️ Q: So where does a Black girl get her hair done in New Brunswick? A: It's 2023 - a salon, right? Not so fast - curly hair knowledge is not, and has never been a requirement on a NB hair exam, and the schools don't teach it 😱. It's BlackLantic's opinion is that associations continue to make it more and more difficult for those interested in Black hair styles to earn a living by regulating services that schools don't even teach.

Born and raised in New Brunswick Lucinda Butland has practiced hair in this province for 32 years and is on a mission to make Black hair accessible to all. Sit down with two salon owners, Lucina Butland (@hairyideassalon) and Co-Host Clinton Davis (@lesalondieppe) as they talk Black Hair, Lucinda's journey in New Brunswick, and more!

Be sure to follow @blacklantic anywhere you listen to podcasts, on socials, and of course YouTube - and follow @hairyideassalon and @lesalondieppe on Instagram 💖
