Lucasfilm continued to release TROS tv spots and promo videos this week, so we share our favorite moments as well as debate the merits of nostalgia in these recent marketing efforts. We then discuss the recently streamed Star Wars kabuki performance (with help from friend of the show Dave Hackerson) before wrapping up the show with our reactions to The Mandalorian Chapter 4.

This week's show is basically just two big segments covering The Mandalorian chapter two and Jedi: Fallen Order. We start the show by discussing favorite moments from The Mandalorian as well as some potential symbolism in the episode and the cruelty of the post-Empire galaxy. The bulk of this week's show is focused on discussing what Benioff & Weiss's leaving Star Wars could mean for the franchise's future as well as what might've led to their departure. This week's show is all about comics and cartoons! For the comics side of things, we run down the Marvel Star Wars news coming out of NYCC 2019, take a look at some recently announced Star Wars manga, and share our thoughts on the first two Return to Vader's Castle issues from IDW as well as Star Wars: Allegiances #1 from Marvel. The second half of the show is devoted to discussing the first two episodes of Star Wars Resistance's final season before we wrap with a few minutes on Freddie Prinze Jr.'s recent (brilliant) viral monologue.

This episode features the first portion of a lengthy discussion we recorded this week that got a little bit away from us in terms of length, so we're splitting it into two episodes. This first one features our Triple Force Friday recap including our experiences going out looking for product, our impression of the merchandise we found, and some of the problems we see with quality, promotion, and distribution.
We'll be back later in the week with the rest of our chat covering #Where'sRose, Kevin Feige's announced Star Warsmovie, and the Star Wars book announcements from NYCC 2019.

Also, John's score on the Force Awakens table on Star Wars Pinball is higher than Ryan's. Just sayin'.
This week's episode is all about Star Wars video games. We kick off the episode by disucssing the recently announced Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy console ports before devoting the rest of the show to taking a look at the recently released and completely excellent Star Wars Pinball package for Switch. We originally planned on discussing the many Rise of Skywalker toy leaks that have been happening lately, but there was just too much pinball to talk this week so we're saving that discussion for episode 122.

After what has felt like a considerable draught in major Star Wars news this summer, this week's show is packed with rumors and speculation about The Rise of Skywalker, Rian Johnson's upcoming Star Wars film series, a possible (likely?) return to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for Ewan McGregor in a Disney + series, and our reactions to the Star Wars Resistance season two trailer. So much to cover and quite a lot to say about each topic in this extra-large episode of the Blockade Runner Podcast.
Ryan's audio this week is coming from Skype as his local recording malfunctioned, so if you notice that it sounds a little off, that's why and we're working on it and will hopefully have things back to normal next week.

News for this week's show includes the launch of Star Wars Roll Out, John's thoughts on the recently released Star Wars: Myths and Fables, Ryan's review of the Age of Resistance special, and a rumored rerelease of all 10 saga films on blu ray this fall. We discuss all of The Phantom Menace's deleted scenes for our primary topic this week in the back half of the episode.
Unfortunately we have some sound quality issues on this episode that we're not able to correct in post-production. It's listenable, but not representative of the usual sound quality level of the show. Next week should be back to normal.

This year's San Diego Comic Con didn't feature a Rise of Skywalker panel, but there still ended up being quite a few fun Star Wars panels and announcements coming out of the show. We open up the show with some discussion of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Arts panel and Kevin Smith's story about a mysterious Episode IX set before spending the remainder of the episode breaking down the Hasbro and publishing panels.
Not gonna lie, this episode ended up being a nightmare to finish and publish due to some unfortunate technology mishaps and as a result the sound had to be pulled straight from the Skype recording. The quality if noticeably lower than usual, but also still fine (in my opinion). Next week's episode should be back to our normal sound quality. Oh, and video is back too if you prefer to watch/listen through YouTube.

We kick this week's show off with some follow up on our Galaxy's Edge episode via some comments from our friend Jake and a look at Abigail Disney's criticism of the company's treatment of its park employees. The rest of the show is all about the recently-unveiled Sith troopers! We discuss the look, but more importantly, the name of these crimson villains and speculate about how they might fit into The Rise of Skywalker and exactly which Sith they may be working for...
For those who watch the show on YouTube, we're experimenting with Google Hangouts alternatives (because Google is killing that platform at the end of this month) and unfortunately our first try didn't work out. We'll still post the audio to YouTube, but it'll just be a static image for this week. Hopefully we'll get the video side of things worked out for episode 114.

This week we kick off our Power of the 90s shows covering 1999 (weirdly before we've done 1997 and 1998...whoops) by taking a look back at the incredible Phantom Menace documentary The Beginning. Join us for Jar Jar puppets in the back of Toyota pickups, Rick McCallum's charismatic cursing, heavy Jake Lloyd and George Lucas appreciation, and a whole lot of discussion of the podrace sequence.

We start this week's show off with some chat about recent tweets signaling an end to Episode IX's filming, a discussion of the just-announced Galaxy's Edge books coming later this year, and a voicemail from The Rural Farmboy (@aRuralFarmboy). The rest of the show is devoted to an in-depth look at Electronic Arts's exclusive deal for publishing Star Wars games. We run through the history of EA's Star Wars releases (and cancellations) and lament the unreleased games and missed opportunities (seriously, no Nintendo Switch games?) that are part of the EA-era.

Resistance is back from it's mid-season hiatus and Ryan is all caught up after taking a bit of a break from the show himself, so we've dedicated this episode to reviewing and discussing the show from episode #5 ("The High Tower") all the way through the most recent episode, #13 ("Dangerous Business"). We also chat about the mid-season trailer, "Buff Salacious Crumb," Resistance toys and our frustration with the difficulty of tracking down 3.75" figures lately, and DIY movie poster light boxes.

John does a brief solo show covering possible links between TFA's early concept art and Episode IX for our final episode of 2018. We're mostly just using Peter Sciretta's Twitter comments from a few days ago as an excuse to pull down and pour over Phil Szostak's incredible Art Of books for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Follow along if you have the books (or check out the images in the video version), and if you don't, definitely pick them up if you can - they are must have resources for sequel trilogy fans, no doubt.
Thanks for watching or listening in 2018 and here's to what will undoubtedly be an unbelievable 2019 for Star Wars fans!

This week's episode is all about Star Wars novel and comic author Chuck Wendig, his work, and Marvel's choice to fire him last week. We spend at least the first half of the episode discussing Marvel's call to remove Chuck from the Star Wars books he was working on "for having a mind of his own," and we're not happy about it. We felt it was important to address and we wanted to voice our support for Chuck who we believe is responsible not only for some excellent Star Wars stories, but for speaking up against injustice and being unafraid to take a stand on important issues regardless of the fallout. The final portion of the show features a discussion of Chuck's Star Wars work and the contributions he's made to the property.

This week's episode is all about the premiere episode(s) of Star Wars Resistance. Ryan and John discuss "The Recruit," "Triple Dark," and "Fuel for the Fire," all of which are live on the Disney Now app. Our discussion primarily focuses on the characters, visuals, and tone of the show, so the "spoilers" are minimal (though you may still want to wait to listen until you've seen all three episodes). We also talk about the show's potential, what we'd like to see from it going forward, blue snaggletooths, and why Resistance would make is the perfect property for new Star Wars video games!

Join Ryan and John as we dive into The Art of The Last Jedi and The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary books on this latest episode of The Blockade Runner. We both love reading the Art Of and Visual Dictionary releases that accompany each new Star Wars movie so much, so we're excited to dedicate an entire episode to them. The Art Of discussion leans pretty far into analysis and gleaning what we can about The Last Jedi's production process from the book while the Visual Dictionary portion of the show is more focused on fun little details and lore. Authors Phil Szostak and Pablo Hidalgo have written two incredible Last Jedi resources that we think are essential to any Star Wars fan's own library of sacred texts, so whether you join us for this discussion or not, be sure to pick up and dig in to copies of both.

Blockade Runner Chris is NOT a fan of Rogue One, and he's about the only huge Star Wars fan I know that feels that way, so we devoted this episode to digging into why he doesn't love the movie. We argue quite a bit, and listening back I realized that at times I fell into the trap of trying to convince someone to like something they just don't (not usually the best idea), but we also spend a lot of time analyzing the choices made by the Gareth Edwards and Lucasfilm and I think it's a pretty compelling discussion. Plus, Chris and I have been having arguments like this for 20 years and we're going to keep having them for a long, long time to come. Enjoy (regardless of which side of the argument you come down on)!

We gave Google Hangouts on Air a try for this episode and it was a lot of fun for us. We'll keep working on this as a possible method of recording shows; incorporating chat and scheduling recordings ahead of time so listeners can watch live are nice perks, plus we get to see each other's dumb faces while we record. Audio quality leaves a bit to be desired though, so I'll be looking to improve that going forward. Let us know what you think about the Hangouts thing using any of the social media links below!

This episode features an interview I did with Han Solo fan filmmaker Matt Mickelson back in September of 2016. Matt has been working on a Han Solo movie with his daughters and posting episodes online over the past few years, and he's preparing to release an updated, complete cut soon. We talked a bit about making Star Wars fan films, sharing Star Wars with his daughters, Han Solo in The Force Awakens, and a few other Star Wars-related topics. Unfortunately we thought the audio for the interview was lost due to a technical malfunction, but Matt recently sent me a salvaged file. I sound pretty rough (but listenable), but Matt sounds great and he's the one with interesting commentary this time around anyway. The interview isn't exactly current (we're looking forward to Rouge One, for instance), but most of the topics aren't super time-sensitive and now's a great time to check out our discussion since Matt's Han Solo film is set to release online soon.

The title for Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi was revealed today and we couldn't wait to share our thoughts here on The Blockade Runner. We wanted to record an episode as soon as possible discussing the news, so rather than wait until we could all record together, John spoke to Kevin, Ryan, Dan, and Chris individually. We'd love to hear what you think, so send us an email or use of the social media links in the show notes below to reach out!
*Disclaimer* Sound quality varies a bit in this one, but it's totally listenable; we just rushed to get this episode out and weren't always able to record under ideal conditions. We think our excitement makes up for it!

Chris joins John to discuss his recent viewing of Rebels season 2 and 3 before we chat about his skepticism regarding Rogue One and Star Wars stand-alones in general. This may not be our most evergreen podcast as Rogue One releases in less than 24 hours here in the States, but if you need something to help you pass the time before it does, give this one a listen. Most of us are SUPER EXCITED for Rogue One, but Chris's concerns are thoughtful, interesting, and also hopefully SUPER WRONG!
Fair warning, there are a few minor issues w/ sound quality on this one, but nothing major. The 2 or 3 minute intro was recorded on an iPhone and is kinda too loud (sorry) and there's a bit of echo on some of the main track. I cleaned it up a bit, but I figured this one doesn't have too long of a shelf-life, so I'd better get it out asap!
