Hope Through the Fire

This episode will make you ruin your New Year's resolution because Bob and Kelly spend a good part of the opener talking about tasty foods they ate over Christmas. But, after the intro is played, it is all truth bombs that they share from Paul David Tripp's book Suffering: Gospel Hope When Life Doesn’t Make Sense. So, join Bob and Kelly as they talk about suffering and the need for independence and how that is the greatest spiritual battle that God's children face. Find the victory through total dependence on the sovereignty of God.

Bob and Kelly are BACK! Are several weeks of being on hiatus, they are back with their 13th Episode! It is titled "Facing the Lions because Bob and Kelly give commentary on a sermon from Daniel 6 that was preached by Tommy Staggs, the Campus Pastor at First Christian Church. Learn valuable lessons about Daniel's fire as he literally faced the lions!

Bob and Kelly interview their pastor, Scott Wakefield of First Christian Church (FCC), who share an in-depth look at his experience with depression. Their conversation begins with a fun banter of Scott's personal info and then moves into a serious discussion on the topic of depression. Learn what depression is, gain perspective on how to deal with depression, and hear how to help others affected by depression. Towards the end of the episode, Scott speaks of a valuable tool that FCC uses to help those with depression or other difficulties in their lives. This episode will hit you hard with the truth of depression, but it will also encourage you to see hope through depression!  

Episode 11 was recorded just an hour and a half after Bob was discharged from the hospital because of COVID difficulties. This emotional and very transparent episode tells of Bob and Kelly's lessons during their ordeal with COVID. They share how they learned once again who they saw God through the fire as they experienced another "Even If Moment". Bob shares his thoughts from a sermon he listened to in the hospital, which was preached by their pastor, Scott Wakefield (First Christian Church). The text that was used in the sermon was Lamentations 3:16-24. 

Both Bob and Kelly also share songs that helped them through their COVID fire ("Praise You in the Storm, by Casting Crowns; "Bring the Rain" by Mercy Me). Episode 7 is Part 2 of an interview with Bob's parents. Their story involves three different lives - The short life of their first son, William, who passed away shortly after his birth; then the difficulty of being advised to go through with an abortion with Bob, but experiencing the blessing of his life; and then eternal life that was found through tragedy.

After hearing in Episode 5 from Bob's mom about her story of abuse as a child, Bob and Kelly continue the theme of abuse with two stories in this episode. First, they share the biblical story of Hagar who faced family abuse, but realized that God saw her and provided for her needs. Segwaying from that story, Bob and Kelly interview their friend Heather, who also faced abuse from her husband while they were on the mission field in Japan, but experienced God's protection and provision.

In this second Bonus Episode, Bob talks candidly about his thoughts from Episode 5, when he and Kelly interviewed Bob's mom, Rose. Bob openly shares his feelings towards his grandfather who abused his mom when she was a girl, but Bob also shares the truth of God's forgiveness which is for anyone, no matter how great the sin is. It is all possible because God's mercy is greater! 

On this episode, Bob and Kelly interview Bob's mom, Rose Radank, who experienced abuse from her father, but learned to forgive him. This is an episode that is very emotional, but the love of God and His goodness is displayed! James Bell is back with us to tell the 2nd part of his story.  James and his wife have gone through several years of various trials, from sicknesses to rejection from family, friends and ministry partners, all while following Jesus with their whole life.  James shares how he learned that trials reveal Jesus to us, as we draw closer to him. He describes how suffering also reveals our own faith to us.  Just like Abraham, James learned that his faith was revealed through suffering.

Life is full of difficulties, but God is always there through the "fire". And even if our situation does not change, God never changes. It is through the fire that we can find hope and see God take the ashes and turn them into something beautiful for His glory!
