This story gives us a Get Out-type exploration of gentrification and it's destruction of a community and its people. People are going missing as their businesses and residences are snatched up as the changes being thrust upon forces some of them to rise up against the coming tide of yuppies and the affluent class.

An homage to your mama's daily addictions satiated from your television sets, the story of Carmen Aguilar is filled with telenovela tropes! Once Upon a Quinceañera by Monica Gomez-Hira was a wonderful read and take on the "happily ever after story". We had a blast reading this novel!
