68: Stephanie Webb - ISR - Infant Swim Resource
Join your hosts Lea and Sophia as they interview Stephanie in safety swim. They discuss the safety protocols and the float, swim, breath holding rhythm.
Stephanie became aware of the ISR program after having almost lost her three year old daughter in a non-fatal drowning accident in her parent's pool. Up until that time, her daughter had taken eight months of private and semi-private lessons at the local community center. After her daughter's accident, Stephanie realized she had learned no actual safety skills or swimming techniques. Her daughter learned that water could be fun, but not that it could be dangerous. Play-based swim lessons only gave her a false sense of security in the water. Three months later, Stephanie enrolled her in the ISR program, along with her one and a half year old baby brother. She was worried about her daughter experiencing trauma getting her back in the water so soon after her accident, but after a couple weeks of tears and a bit of resistance her daughter started enjoying the water again as she learned how to float and swim independently. Her young son also learned how to independently find his float and maintain that float by the end of the session. It was an incredibly emotional process for the family, but so rewarding seeing her children master these incredible skills!
Stephanie wanted to make sure no parent ever had to reckon with a life or death drowning situation again in her community, so she became a Certified ISR Instructor in 2020. Her favorite part of lessons is when parents get to swim with their children at the end of the session. It all comes together for each family, and the children are so excited to show off their skills to their parents!

59: Suzzie Vehrs - She Births Bravely
Suzzie Vehrs, doula, childbirth educator and your biggest fan. I believe one thing: that you deserve a beautiful, powerful, unforgettable birth. The truth is, I wasn’t always a fan of the idea of giving birth. When I had my first child, I was busily building my career at an investment bank and knew nothing about birth. I didn’t know what I wanted, was pulled in a million different directions and ultimately learned many lessons the hard way. By my second child, I learned to define my vision and go after it to really create a memorable day. This sparked a passion in me supporting moms through the humbling and beautiful experience of birth. After years of practicing as a doula and attending over 100 births, I decided to create a childbirth course that would help moms be totally ready for birth by giving actionable tools to use to move through anxiety, proper nutrition and exercises to support your body through the demands of pregnancy and give you real tools to reduce and cope with pain. My passion is bringing confidence and skills to moms preparing for births of all types.
