Ep 69: Why We Need More Confident Women in Leadership

Ep 69: Why We Need More Confident Women in Leadership

Not only do we need more confident women with a seat at the table in politics and in board rooms but we need more with a seat at the table in Mosques, other Religious Organizations and spaces where economic, social and community decisions are being made on our behalf.
We need women who are confident in their femininity who understand their value and are able to articulate themselves in spaces where the voices of women often go unheard.
This episode is to spark that conversation and to give more women the green light to speak up in boardrooms and at mosques etc so we can begin to make more changes that benefit ALL of the members of society.
This episode was brought to you by the Not Without My Hijab book Women often appear to suffer from the misconception that to be successful in business or accepted in society they have to diminish or denounce their faith or beliefs.
In "Not Without My Hijab", I walk you through my personal journey to self-discovery while navigating college, corporate america and relationships. I guides you through 11 steps to reclaiming your faith.
In my travels as a business coach I have encountered women cross culturally who face the same internal conflict regarding their religious identity as I did and I wrote this book to help guide you back to being your most authentic self so you can live your absolute best life.

Ep 63: Beyond the Single Muslim Story w/ Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow

What does it mean to “Go Beyond the Single Muslim Story?” The answer to this question is simple yet complex. We are not a monolith. Not as black people. Not as muslims. Not as women. Tune in as my guest Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow works to help us dissect the answer to this question, the importance of telling "our" stories and more.

Jamilah is a Philadelphia-based educator and children’s book author with a Masters in Education. A curriculum writer and former English teacher, she has educated children and teens in traditional and alternative learning settings for 15 years. As an inaugural AMAL fellow with the Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative (MuslimARC), she developed foundational curricular frameworks for youth and adult anti-racist programming. Ep 62: Letting Go of the Perfectionist Syndrome that Keeps You Stuck

Ep 62: Letting Go of the Perfectionist Syndrome that Keeps You Stuck

Where does Perfectionism come from in the first place? Generally speaking Perfectionism comes from an internal pressure of not wanting to fail or face harsh judgement from others.

In today’s episode my goal is to get you unstuck! One of the things I strongly suggest is that you seek out therapy to help you with this. This People pleasing behavior is rooted in something deeper and will likely resurface if its not addressed. Trust me I’m telling you from experience. I’m a recovering perfectionist! Tune in and share with someone who can benefit.

Ep 59: Inspiring Gen Z to Keep the Faith through Fashion w/Asma Bibi Hijabi Pop

Ep 59: Inspiring Gen Z to Keep the Faith through Fashion w/Asma Bibi Hijabi Pop

How does the work we do in our day to day work impact others today and for generations to come? Join the conversation with Asma Bibi CEO of Hijabi Pop. Asma Bibi found her passion for fashion at a young age. While Asma was growing up in Philadelphia, a city largely populated with American Muslims, her parents operated a clothing business and her mother taught her the basics of garment making. From there Asma taught herself more advanced skills aided by online tutorials and YouTube. Asma’s motivation for designing a fashion line stemmed from the gap she noticed in the fashion market for modern and modest clothing that appealed to young Muslim women. In 2017, Asma launched her brand Hijabi Pop with the mission of creating modest yet trendy outfits for millennial Muslim females. In 2018, the designer showed her collection at the Fall 2018 Hijab Fest, the CLF Conference in Atlanta, and New York Fashion Week. In the future, Asma’s mission is to take her modest-wear line mainstream as a modest luxury brand. She takes pride in her determination and identity as an African-American Muslim woman.

We sit down this week to talk to Lina Mohammed who’s passions for activism and the justice system have grown exponentially in the last two years. Her focus is on mainstream media and its generally prejudiced portrayal of minority groups such as African-Americans, women, and Muslims. Her goal is to deconstruct stereotypes of Muslims through interfaith work with Christians and Jews. It is important for folks to raise their voices and amplify others’.

Lina interned at MPAC, Arab American Association, ACCESS, and CAIR to realize her goal and create interfaith programs by bringing in Faith leaders from all 3 abrahamic faiths. Last year Lina attended her first ever Guild of America banquet and spoke about the importance of learning from each other and creating safe spaces. Episode 30 Yasmin Elhady To Give or Not to Give The importance of Charity in Islam

Episode 30 Yasmin Elhady To Give or Not to Give The importance of Charity in Islam

For the month of Dhul Hijjah we wanted to bring you episodes to help you inside and outside of the month in the first 10 days so we released the last 2 episodes early. In this weeks Episode our guest Yasmin Elhady talks to us about how giving charity paid her way into Law School, the Joy of Motherhood and the scary transition into meaningful and fulfilling work. This a "Don't Miss" episode.

Yasmin Elhady is the daughter of Libyan and Egyptian immigrants, otherwise known as a North African Unicorn.  She was born in Egypt and came to the United States at age 4, growing up in the deep South. Yasmin is an attorney, comedian, philanthropist, and relationship expert.  She’s basically confused, or multi-talented—you choose. She received her undergraduate degrees from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in Neuroscience and Middle Eastern Studies.  After completing a graduate fellowship at the American University in Cairo focusing on Arabic, she attended law school at the UCLA School of Law.  There, Yasmin was the President of her law class, as well as President of the Muslim Law Students Association.

She wrote onto the UCLA Law Review where she was a Comments Editor, and also served as the Chief Articles Editor for the UCLA Journal of Islamic & Near Eastern Law.  Upon graduation, Yasmin was selected for the U.S. Department of Justice's Attorney General's Honors Program. She later attended Princeton's Woodrow Wilson School, was named a John L. Weinberg '47 Mid-Career Fellow in Public & International Affairs, and served as her Public Policy class's student government representative. She then returned to federal service & is currently an attorney. She’s also the Chairwoman of the Board if PennyAppealUSA—a charity focused on ending cyclical poverty domestically & internationally.

Her roles as mother, daughter, wife, and sister help inform her perspective and relate to other people's joy and pain with humor.  Her alter ego is "Yasguru," a hyper active relationship advisor with silly videos on Instagram & YouTube and a “#MarryMondays” relationship series.

Be sure to check her out on IG @yasguru or catch her comedy on Youtube @YasGuru.
