Business BLAB - Managing Your Mental Health
We are shifting gears a little this week to talk about something that really does play a big part in our businesses, and sometimes we may not necessarily realize it. Mental health. Being an entrepreneur comes with all kinds of highs and some really low lows, and keeping our mental health in shape is really crucial for our success. Now, it is no secret that I’m an open book, and mental health is something I feel strongly about being open about. I suffer pretty bad anxiety, occasional depression, and have quite a few OCD tendencies. And there are times where my business directly impacts my mental health, and of course times that mental health impacts my business. So I want to share some ways that I manage my mental health to keep my mind and my business as strong as possible. I’m obviously not a dr, or even an expert on mental health, but this is what works for me! Routines Planning Your Schedule Organization Limiting Screen Time Supportive Community Vulnerability If you are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone! I'd love to support you! Business BLAB - SOPs
This month we are focusing on cleaning up our businesses… or as I like to call it Spring Cleaning Your Business! One of the biggest thing that has helped me clean up my business is getting some solid SOPs in place. You’ve heard me talk about these before, but you may still be wondering “what even is an SOP”... don’t worry, I’m about to break it down for you. SOPs stands for Standard Operating Procedures. So this is basically creating (and sometimes, really just writing down) anything that you do in your business on a regular basis… anything you do on repeat. Your SOP breaks down each step, expectation, and outcome of your every day business tasks. Why do you need these? Because the more plans you have laid out in your business, the easier it is to make sure you don’t miss a step! SOPs lead to ultimate organization! Here are my favorite tips on how to create SOPs for your business, today! Review Your Business Operations Get Detailed On The Steps Of TheProcess Decided Where To Store Your SOP That's it! Quarterly plan
Last week we talked about how to do a little mini audit on your business to see how the last quarter went. This sets you up to plan your next quarter! Knowing your business inside and out is pretty important, and when you take the time to do these quarterly audits, you save time when it comes to the (sometime overwhelming) quarterly plan. But, you may be wondering… how do I actually plan for a whole quarter?! Mom life, entrepreneurship, it is all so unpredictable and 3 months seems like a really long time, right? Of course it is! BUT, like with everything I teach the key is creating a flexible plan. So, today we are going to talk about the process I use to plan my quarters: How To Create Your Plan Start With Your Priorities Choose 1-3 Big Goals Map Out Promos Choose Monthly Focus Create Content Plan And that’s it! Following these simple steps, paired with the quarterly reviews we covered last week, will get your set up to crush it quarter after quarter! Do you have a quarterly plan? Business BLAB - How To Beat Imposter Syndrome
So we have been talking about self love all month on the show, but no matter how much we love ourselves, that pesky imposter syndrome can find a way to sneak in. This usually happens to me when I’m feeling a little overwhelmed or on the road to burnout, when I’m trying something new and I feel out of my league, when I spend too much time scrolling, or for reasons that I don’t even understand. Unfortunately imposter syndrome is something that affects many people (specifically women) and can really derail your boss lady mode, and quickly. Part of being a Boss Lady is believing in yourself… Even if you feel others don't believe in you. There is room for everyone at the table, and you may not see it now, but your unique experience makes what you have to offer different than anything that's been done before! … hear that again that again… It is time to stop  comparing yourself to others and start realizing that as long as you stay authentic and true to who you are, no one can provide what YOU have to give! No one is a great as you! And you have something special to share with the world… whether you believe it all the time or not! Here are some tips I’ve found to help me when I’m facing the imposter in the mirror: Visualize Your Success Get Out Of Your Head Ditch The Idea Of Perfection  Keep Learning Surround Yourself With Women You Can Relate To  Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone Accept That You Will Fail Luck didn’t get you there, YOU did. You’ve gotten as far as you have because you’ve bossed up, worked hard, and didn’t take no for an answer. You did this, not an imposter, you! If you are battling with imposter syndrome please send me a message at megan@bossladiesandbabies.com.  I  would love to talk you through it and offer more tips on how i battle the annoying feelings myself. Business BLAB - How To Practice Affirmations Like A Boss
Today, in theme with the month of love, we are going to be talking about Boss Affirmations! Boss Affirmations aren’t much different than your normal run of the mill affirmations, except you’re a BOSS so I’m giving them this cool name because why not? Now, the thing with affirmations is that they can feel kind of silly at first. Especially if you want to go the route of standing in the mirror and telling yourself how amazing you are. It might not feel natural, and that’s ok! Just remember, the more time you give yourself to let this work, the more natural it will become, and the better you will feel! Times of overwhelm in business will feel more focused as you're setting your intentions for the day and remembering that you’ve got this. Business BLAB - Reframing Mindset Around Productivity
The theme for this month seems to be clear, we don’t need to put so much pressure on ourselves. The world is hard right now. Being a mom is hard right now. Owning a business is hard right now. And one of the things that we tend to use to measure our success in both business and motherhood is productivity. Raise your hand if your productivity has determined if you had a good or bad day based off of how many tasks were checked off your to-do list? It’s what we have been groomed to do. The more productive you are, the better partner, mom, entrepreneur you are. So, this week I want to talk about how we can reframe and redefine what productivity means to us. It is time to ditch the toxic ways of our past and move forward with those healthy expectations I keep talking about!  Remove Productivity From The Success Equation   Turn Your "To-Do List" Into A "Top 3 List"  Celebrate At The End Of Each Day  Rework Your Time Block  Stop Watching What "She" Is Doing   How does productivity effect your life? What makes you feel like you've had the most productive day?  Let me know at megan@bossladiesandbabies.com  What if you had a place to go where you felt seen, heard, and supported in your business and motherhood with a community of women who GET YOU? Lately, I’ve been very open about the struggles of momprenuership and how it can feel really alone, really isolating, and really hard. Not to mention in the middle of a global pandemic that takes away so much of our village and our social interactions. But, you shouldn't have to do the alone! A big reason why it is so hard to be a working mom is that so many people in your life will not understand. And, no fault to them, it can be tricky to find the type of connection you need when people just don’t get it… get you. I felt this hard when I was pregnant with my daughter, and so I created a community around what I needed! If you’re feeling alone, isolated, and like no one understands you, you just haven’t found your community yet. If you’re feeling like you have to choose between business and motherhood, and your dreams have to be put on hold because you’re a mom… .you just haven’t found the right resources and support yet. The power of the right community can change your life! In the episode we talked about the things I knew I needed from a community: Vulnerability Support Like-Minded Women Education/Resources  Have you found your community yet? So, in honor of this special moment, I brought on my co-authors - Mikki Flaherty and Whitnee Hawthorne - to give you the inside scoop on what this book is all about! We talk about some behind the scenes, what it was like to co-author from different states and as complete strangers, and how we found inspiration for writing this book! We share how we were approached, how different the publishing process was then we thought it would be, and what is next for each of us! The Millennials' Guide For Working Parents is incredible because it was written by 3 women from different walks of life, sharing their secrets to crushing their careers and motherhood!  Millennials have been raised in a career focused culture. As we start to become parents and navigate through our parenting journey, there is often worry that we will no longer be seen as the professional, and that we will lose the high level thinking, respected, side of ourselves to parenthood. Millennial parents are learning that they can have both! It is possible to build your career, care for your family, and not lose yourself along the way! Are you ready to make it happen? This practical guide includes: Advice on overcoming the loss of your professional identity Strategies on how to become seen as the "professional parent" Tips for managing your time and working towards “balance” A unique take on self care and mental health Writing this book has been a dream come true, and I'm so honored to have created something that will help working parents everywhere! Business BLAB - How To Recognize Signs Of Burnout
As I was going to write this episode, I was feeling pretty meh about it. We all know what burnout is, we all have a general idea of how it feels, but what are the signs that happen to lead up to burnout and how do we know if we are about to head into the dark territory. If I’m being transparent, as I’m writing this episode, I realized I’m currently living in burn out zone.. And I need to get out! I knew I was tired, overwhelmed, and feeling a little down, but I wish I would have noticed some of the other signs before I got to where I am. Because now, like so many of you listening, I have to dig my way out, clear my head, recharge, adjust, and get back to a healthy place. So, since I’m clearly no expert in this- I took to my bff google and found some very helpful information on the topic! Some of what I read I already knew, but many signs I’ve noticed and didn’t attribute to burnout. So, I’m going to share what I found with you and give some of my insights. Check out this article for more! https://www.helpguide.org/articles/stress/burnout-prevention-and-recovery.htm# Ok, what are some of the things we may notice if we are on the road to burnout out? Every day is a bad day. Caring about your work or home life seems like a total waste of energy. You’re exhausted all the time. The majority of your day is spent on tasks you find either mind-numbingly dull or overwhelming. You feel like nothing you do makes a difference or is appreciated. Ring a bell? Yikes…. ALL OF THESE THINGS have been happening over here! I thought I was depressed or being dramatic, but it turns out I’m on my way to burn out and I need to stop it! Luckily you don’t just wake up one morning and feel burned out. It happens gradually over time, but if you aren’t paying attention it can hit you like a ton of bricks. Burnout manifests itself in a few different ways, physically, mentally, and emotionally, and not all of them are super obvious. This episode covers the most useful list I found on the internet that I’ve experienced, and I think will be helpful for anyone who may be on the same path. I’m going to go through these and see which I’m experiencing/have experienced and I want you to do the same. Burnout as a whole can be experienced by anyone who feels overworked and undervalued (aka motherhood hahah), but doesn’t have to be a normal part of our lives! I’m hoping that we can use these signs to help us stop the burnout before it happens! Also being vocal about our priorities, wants and needs, and drawing some clear boundaries for ourselves and our families will help us stay in a healthy mindset. I’ll keep you posted on how I get out of burnout mode, and will do a future episode on how to get back on track! How do you stop burnout from happening? Are you experiencing it now? Are You Ready To Ditch Everything You Know About Social Media? Exclusive Sneak Peek Into How!
AN EXCLUSIVE SNEEK PEAK INTO MY NEW SOCIAL MEDIA PROGRAM. FIRST TO KNOW INFO AND DISCOUNT CODE INCLUDED!  Everywhere we turn we hear how important social media is to our businesses. The “gurus” are screaming from the roof tops about what we SHOULD be doing, how many times a day we need to post, new strategies that are “the only way”, and setting the standard of what makes you a “success” on social media. … is this ringing a bell? How many times have you showed up to use social media for your business and just felt a complete wave of overwhelm? It literally takes over your body, and all the shoulds and strategies are screaming louder than the next until YOU JUST CAN’T EVEN!!! Sound familiar? You start to question yourself, maybe you even lose yourself in the shuffle, as you are doing everything you can to “keep up”... and probably not seeing the results you’ve been promised. Can you feel that in your gut? The regret? The loss of identity? The false authenticity, in a time where people are craving REAL human connection more than ever? I’ve been there… not too long ago even. And if you’re still listening, I could bet you have to. We get so consumed with trying to be like everyone else in order to grow, that we end up doing the exact opposite. It is time to start making social media work FOR YOU! There is no one size fits all..  at least, not when you are ready to ditch the BSing and commit to being real. People are tired of seeing the cookie cutter, curated, could have came from anyone, no personality, showing up only because of the posting quota type of posts. They are ready to see YOU! To relate with you, to connect with you, and to buy what YOU are selling. The type of you that;s been clawing to get out, but because you are trying to keep up, keeps getting pushed to the side and talked down to. The side of you that has a fresh take, a new idea, or a REAL HUMAN moment that needs to be shared with the world. Imagine the pressure you can take off of yourself when you decide to stop doing what everyone tells you and start using social media in a way that works for YOUR LIFE! Imagine social media being fun and social again. Imagine creating a strategy that blends in with your day to day tasks, and become something you’re excited to work on! Imagine leaving your scroll time feeling positive, inspired, and comfortable with your presence and who you are. These things are all possible! And, the best part, totally within your reach.Sure, there are proven strategies that work on social media, but they aren’t the only way. And if you continue to force yourself to show up when you can’t, or overcommit, these proven strategies will never work for you. You have to create a strategy that fits into your life. A strategy that you can comfortably commit to, and build upon. Your family, your audience, and most of all YOU, will be so happy when you check your ego and start listening to what’s really important. So, are you ready to ditch your social media struggles and have some fun? My upcoming 5 week social media course will walk you through just how to do this! In just over a month, you can have your life back, inspire those around you, make an impact  and start growing real connections on your social platforms! It is time to make social media fun again! Business BLAB - How To Track The ROI For Your Time
Have you heard about the movement to kick hustle culture to the curb? I’m so excited about this, and more and more women are speaking out about it! We get so caught up being busy because we feel like we have to, and often we end up working too much, for too little, and feeling burnt out and horrible about ourselves. Along with the mindset shift (more on this in a later episode), it’s important that we are aware of where our time is being spent when we do “hustle” and what ROI (return on investment) we are actually getting. Now ROI can be the return on TIME investment or financial investment. Both are equally as important to pay attention to! It is basically the amount you get back vs the amount you put in. Today, we are going to talk about time!! “Knowing your returns on the investment of your time, you can make changes to your business model that allow you to earn greater revenue in less time.” So there is a standard formula for time or financial investments you can use to get started: Profit / total investment Example from thebalancsemb.com Consider your time as an investment- If you're making $3,000 per month, but working 60 hours a week on your business (240 hours a month), your ROI is 3,000/240 =  12.5. That means for every hour you're working, you're only earning $12.50. Here is how to audit your time and track your RO(time)I: Have a goal in mind and a way to measure if you’ve made a profit. Track your time-Pay attention to where you time is going Detail every single business activity What are your income producing tasks What are your tasks that don’t provide income, but encourage growth and cannot be removed What tasks can be outsourced - and when you outsource pay attention to if the amount you;re paying is actually leading to an increase in time and income. What tasks are producing leads What tasks can be removed from your business Have you payed attention to ROI on your time? Are you spending too much time doing things that don’t move the needle because “everyone else is doing it”? Get in tune with your business and your audience. What do they need? What’s working? Where are you having most success? Once you start paying attention, you’ll be able to truly make the most out of your business! Let me know at megan@bossladiesandbabies.com

Normalizing The Motherhood Driven Career Break
Have you thought about a career break? Maybe you're in the middle of one right now, or just returning. No matter if you have, are, or are thinking about taking a career break, it is time we normalize this conversation! Mothers everywhere were taking career breaks for years, but in 2020 many women had to make the difficult choice and do what was best for their families. In this episode -Janice Scholl- joins me to share her knowledge and passion about normalizing motherhood driven career breaks. We cover what a career break is, why someone may take one, what happens if it becomes more than just a break, and ways that you can maintain your identity through the changes. Career breaks tend to get a bad rap, and can leave women feeling like they've "failed". Janice shares some insightful mindset shifts and daily habits that can help ditch the feelings of negativity associated with the privilege of making the challenging choice to take a career break. The episode ends with mic drop advice on how to balance business and motherhood, and a classic Janice Scholl hot mess moment (check out her last episode on our podcast to hear another hot mess story, she has the best!) How To Not Lose Your Sh*t - Tips From A Temper Coach
You know Boss Ladies and Babies is all about adventuring through motherhood, growing our careers, and not losing out sh*t. And especially these days, parents everywhere are carrying around so much that it is getting harder and harder not to lose our sh*t… and often times our families and our children end up on the other side of it. In this episode, I am joined by author, speaker, and temper coach, Jeanette Hargreaves. Jeanette is a mom with her Master's in Divinity, and she used to lose her temper every day, but it didn't feel right, so she got help... and now she helps others. She speaks with groups and teaches private classes over Zoom, and her book "The Day I Threw Banana Bread and Almost Went to Jail: True Stories About How I Used to Lose My Temper (and How I Learned to Stop)" will make you laugh, make you cry, and give you practical tips for emotional intelligence at home.  This episode is as real as it gets!
