Does this mean that God saw them as righteous because they obeyed the law of Moses? In this teaching, Brad explains from the Scriptures that no one is righteous through observing the law, including Zechariah and Elizabeth. The reason they observed the law was because they were unrighteous, and it was through belief that they were declared righteous by God.

Hebrews #61: Nourished By The New Testament Of Grace (Hebrews 13:9-14) | Brad Robertson
Notes available at: https://www.gracereach.org/hebrews - In AD 65, the law teachers were trying to pressure the grace believers to observe the dietary laws of Moses. Yet the writer of Hebrews exhorted the grace believers to eat and drink of the new testament of grace - the altar of Jesus, the cross. Eating from the cross of Jesus, the new testament of grace, is the spiritual nourishment they needed, not the dietary laws of Moses. Additionally, the writer of Hebrews told the grace believers that the law teachers had no authority over them...no power over them...no control over them. Therefore, they were free to leave the sacrifices at the temple inside the city of Jerusalem and go outside the city to the cross of Jesus where his blood made them holy. Discipleship is one of the most widely used words in churches and ministries around the world. Unfortunately, discipleship is toxic in many of them. Toxic discipleship is a discipleship model and method focusing believers on advancing through a strategic process and adhering to a set of practices for the purpose of becoming more like Jesus. Pressure is exerted upon believers to “be discipled” and “make disciples” by committing to a discipleship group and discipleship relationships.
A believer’s freedom in Jesus is rarely taught in toxic discipleship. Toxic discipleship is not about setting people free in Christ but about setting people on a path of discipleship as defined by the discipler, pastor, church, or ministry. The words free and freedom are not common words in toxic discipleship. Common words in toxic discipleship are abiding, devotion, quiet time, solitude, stillness, journaling, commitment, devoted, follow, obedience, disciplines, prayer life, count the cost, pick up your cross, be discipled, make disciples, disciple-maker, reproduce, and multiply.

Hebrews #55: Don't Refuse Him Who Speaks (Hebrews 12:18-29) | Brad Robertson

In the past, God spoke to the Jewish people through the prophets, he is now speaking to the Jewish people, and all people, through Jesus who established the new testament of grace (full forgiveness of sins, cleansing from sins, and closeness with God) in his blood. In AD 65, the majority of Jewish people heard the truth about Jesus as the Christ (the Son) and the new testament of grace (Hebrews 2:1-4), yet were in danger of rejecting Jesus and the new testament, while continuing to follow Moses and the old testament of law. The writer of Hebrews exhorts the Jewish unbelievers to not refuse God who is speaking to them through Jesus. He then warns them of the consuming fire of judgment to come if they refuse to listen to God by rejecting Jesus.

https://www.gracereach.org/ - In AD 65, the Jewish believers were undergoing tremendous pressure, by those who opposed them, to reject Jesus and the new testament of grace and return to the Moses and the old testament of law. It would take faith for these believers to persevere through the persecution. In this teaching, Brad explains how the writer of Hebrews encouraged the believers to look to the faith of Jesus as a model of faith. Jesus, by faith, endured the persecution of his opponents and the pain of the cross. The writer of Hebrews exhorts the Jewish believers to endure by faith the persecution from their opponents just as Jesus endured by faith.

So often this verse is misquoted to motivate believers to go to church or be in a small group. Yet, sadly, most church and small group leaders have no understanding of what the new testament is and actually undo in their teachings and discussions what the new testament is all about. Consequently, believers remain in the dark about the new testament of grace and in bondage to spiritual rituals, requirements, practices, and disciplines in order to be get forgiveness from God and get close to God.
In PART ONE, Brad explains the background of the persecution the believers in AD 65 were experiencing because they embraced Jesus and the new testament of grace. Brad explains how Jesus said in John 15-16 this persecution was coming, and how the persecution began early in the life of Jesus and is on full display in Acts, leading the writer of Hebrews to exhort the Jewish believers in AD 65 to assemble together as new testament believers so they could find strength to steady them in the persecution they were undergoing. Hebrews #44: The Difference In Forgiveness Under Law And Under Grace (Hebrews 10:17-18) | Brad Robertson
https://www.gracereach.org/ In AD 65, the writer of Hebrews explained to the Jewish people who were sacrificing animals for forgiveness, that because of the full, final, and forever payment of sins by Jesus with his one sacrifice of himself for all sins, for all people, and for all time, animal sacrifices for sins was no longer necessary. For 1500 years under the old testament of law, the people of Israel were seeking forgiveness of sins by continually sacrificing animals and by continually asking God for forgiveness. Yet, with Jesus' sacrifice of himself, sacrificing animals for forgiveness and asking God for forgiveness became unnecessary. The new testament of grace had been established. God is now asking people to receive through faith in Jesus the forgiveness that Jesus secured through his death. Forgiveness is not something we ask God for, but is something we accept through faith in Jesus. We don't request God to forgive us; rather, through faith in Jesus, we possess God's forgiveness. Hebrews #39: The New Testament Is About Blood Not Books (Hebrews 9:15-22) | Brad Robertson
https://www.gracereach.org We have been taught that the Old Testament consist of 39 books, Genesis - Malachi, and the New Testament consists of 27 books, Matthew - Revelation. However, that is not biblical. It is traditional but not biblical. Biblically, the Old Testament is about the blood of animals that established the law of Moses, where one's relationship with God was conditional. In this teaching, Brad explains how Jesus' death was the full payment for our sins. The blood of a bull and goat was sprinkled on the atonement cover once a year on the Day of Atonement to temporarily cover, but not remove, the sin debt of the people of Israel. Hebrews #29-B: The Torn Curtain Points To The Removal Of Sin To Reconcile Us To God | Brad Robertson
The second curtain in the tabernacle separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place. When Jesus died on the cross, the curtain was torn. This was a literal tearing of the curtain in the tabernacle. This tearing created a new and living way for everyone to enjoy the presence of God. It symbolized that sin no longer prevented anyone from enjoying God's presence. For the Jewish person in around AD 65, the old and deadly way of the old testament of law was now obsolete. The deadly sacrificing of animals had come to an end with Jesus' final sacrifice for all sins, for all people, and for all time. Jesus' sacrifice opened a new way of relating to God...grace. We now relate to God by grace through faith each day, confident were are totally loved by God, eternally forgiven by God, and completely righteous before him.
