188: Messi in Miami; LIV x PGA “Partnership” Not a Merger
187: Apple’s VR for All; Billion Dollar LIV x PGA Merger
LIV and PGA Tour announce a merger that includes European Tour and end legal battles. But it's only the beginning.
186: $100 million F1 Monaco Grand Prix
Monaco shares a unique relationship with Formula 1, receiving benefits such as a discounted hosting fee of just $15 million per year compared to other races that pay between $20 to $55 million. The country also retains control over TV arrangements and sponsorships. This special partnership leads to an estimated annual economic impact of $110 million for Monaco.
Despite being one of the priciest races for spectators, with ticket prices ranging from $160 for Friday’s practice to $16,000 for a 3-day luxury experience, thousands of visitors flock to the glamorous location. VIP packages, high-end accommodations such as the Hotel de Paris Monte Carlo with rooms costing up to $6,000 per night, and elite experiences cater to those ready to indulge.
The Monaco Grand Prix also features a lively yachting scene, with superyachts docking at Port Hercules and available to charter for rates between $12,000 and $140,000 per week. For instance, Faith, a lavish $200 million yacht, has a weekly rental price of $1.5 million.
Interestingly, Monaco is home to many Formula 1 drivers who are drawn to its tax advantages, privacy, and prime location. This makes the race feel like a home event for these drivers.
While there have been concerns about the future of the race due to a lack of on-track action and potential financial shortcomings, the contract between Formula 1 and Monaco has been extended until at least 2025.
As long as the Monaco Grand Prix continues to generate revenue and captivate media, it remains an essential part of the Formula 1 calendar. Nevertheless, as circumstances evolve, future changes or negotiations may reevaluate the event's unique relationship with Formula 1.
185: LIV helps the PGA, Formula 1 takes over Monaco TV production and The Soccer Tournament
Today's episode takes a look at three topics: 1. LIV Golf is taking it to the PGA, 2. F1 is taking over TV production of the Monaco GP for the first time ever; and 3. The Soccer Tournament comes to the US featuring Wrexham and other European football teams. Enjoy!

183: Disrupting the Wine Industry with Empathy Wines
The wait is over. We’re excited to unveil an exciting episode bringing to you a new way of making and selling wine.
Gary Vaynerchuk along with Nate Schroetter and Jon Troutman grew tired of wine lovers in the US being forced to pay too much for a great bottle. The traditional channels add big mark-ups to the price of wine, and too often, the farmers who pour their soul into producing great bottles are forgotten about. Empathy Wines is a result of their empathy for The Farmer, and empathy for You, the wine drinker.
They're working with quality-conscious and sustainable grape growers in great regions of California, to produce incredible bottles of rosé, white, and red blends that ship direct to your doorstep.
Tor the top Club Empathy customers, they've created a personal Wine Concierge service. Need help selecting a special bottle of Cabernet to gift your father-in-law for the holidays? Planning a trip to wine country and want VIP access to tasting rooms? They actually give you a private number to text for any wine inquiry you have. For more details, head to empathywines.com.

Digital Marketing Tips from Taylor Swift
In this episode, Vincenzo dives into digital marketing tips from Taylor Swift, including:
Use FOMO for good
Take the time to appreciate your consumers
Create special experiences.
We also take a look at nine intriguing digital marketing stats from this past week. Here they are in quick format:
Social video continues to explode. Facebook reports over 100 million video views daily!
Apartments.com finds success early on with their Super Bowl ad and, so far, their teaser ad has generated 370,000 YouTube views.
The 2016 election is the mobile election. 67% of Hispanics and 60% of black voters visit political sites on their mobile devices, per a report from the Interactive Advertising Bureau.
Millennials unlock their phones 200 times a day! Now, lock-screen advertising company, Unlockd, is attracting brands like Levi's, Starbucks and Hulu.
Smartphone and tablet search dominated Q4. Mobile accounted for 52% of Google clicks.
OTA said that 91% of data breaches in the first part of 2015 could have been avoided if the companies had done their technical due diligence.
Facebook goes native, and native ad formats make up more than 80% of impressions.
Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders battle it out on social. Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has more than 2.5 million Facebook fans, besting rival Hillary Clinton's 2.2 million. But Clinton has 5.24 million Twitter followers, easily beating Sanders (1.24 million) on the microblogging site. Meanwhile, they are generally even on Instagram—Hillary has 762,000 followers, edging Bernie, who has 635,000.
Trump and Cruz continue to battle it out on live streaming video platforms. Donald Trump and Ted Cruz using Facebook's new live streaming feature. The moves seem wise considering Trump has almost 5.5 million fans on the site, and Cruz has 1.8 million fans. Trump, meanwhile, has 198,000 followers on Periscope to Cruz's 25,000 on the livestreaming app.

167: Are Brands Allowed an Opinion?
Are brands allowed an opinion in the modern media landscape? In the news recently, Under Armour CEO has been in the crosshairs over his comments that alluded to President Trump being "good for business."
However, did the media tell the entire story? And more to the point, are brands allowed to have an opinion, or must they be responsible to their shareholders in a way that creates no waves?

163: Yes, and?
When Kathy Klotz-Guest approached me about doing a co-created piece of content, I wasn’t sure what to think. A co-written piece of content, like a blog? I know it’s been done before, but wasn’t sure what we’d have in common enough to get two trains of thought down into one post.
Of course, you must try everything at least once in life, so I decided to roll with this. Besides, how painful could it be? Kathy is a rockstar, hilarious and super smart. Plus, she just wrote a book, so I knew she could help with the whole writing thing. Oh yea, go get her book here.
The SetupKathy Klotz-Guest and I chatted a few weeks back on the Brand Boost Podcast. In fact, that episode is so good, here it is for you to listen to:
We chatted about improv and marketing, Happy Days, how “human” – yes, still an important word – has also ironically jumped the marketing shark in many ways, and why all marketers should think like improvisers whose central tenet is “yes and.” That is how improvisers build scenes together. This means you accept a statement made to you and add onto that idea so you are co-creating in a purposeful way.
I’m a great improviser. Kathy is the improv queen. This was a match made in content heaven.
Of course, we also talked about all of this in the context of Kathy’s new book: “Stop Boring Me! How to Create Kick-Ass Marketing Content, Products and Ideas Through the Power of Improv.”
Kathy believes this, and I couldn’t agree more: every marketer and businessperson, for that matter, should take an improv class.
So, we chatted, it was a great conversation and when we were almost done chatting, we talked excitedly about how improv is fundamentally about being collaborative. The recording stopped, and there we were, talking for another 30 minutes about this stuff. Naturally, we were both uber-excited about this new-found friendship and realized that this is how content creation can be better.
What’s ironic is that this flies in the face of a very specific barrier to being more open and more collaborative with other parts of the organization and with customers for creating great content – control. In short, companies that think they control the brand are not only misguided (there is no such thing); they are getting in their own way when it comes to creating better content with others.
Here we were, Kathy and I, ‘yes-and-ing’ each other on an idea that needed to be written. And that conversation inspired the list below. And, in true “improv” fashion, we wanted this article to be a collaborative effort as well. Kathy started some of the ideas, I added and we polished it up for our audiences.
Without further adieu…

This is the time of year when everybody creates “prediction posts.” Here’s the number one marketing prediction seen everywhere: “This is the year of Facebook Live. Companies will move their content production to live video.”
Mark W. Schaefer doesn’t agree. What’s the reason a company would NOT do live video?
- Legal constraints
- Cultural constraints
- Talent constraints
Those obstacles don’t go away in a year, or even two years. Will there be an increase in live video? Of course. That seems like a pretty safe prediction. Will there be a transformation in 2017? No. It’s a couple of years away.
Here is Mark's original article: https://www.businessesgrow.com/2016/12/19/facebook-live/

150: Your Press Release is Breaking My Heart
Whether you’re looking to attract more customers, raise cash – or just make more people aware of what you do – being featured in places like the Guardian, Huffington Post or Psychologies magazine, or landing a spot on BBC Breakfast or Sky News, will help you get there quicker.
Janet Murray loves to teach how to do this – without writing endless press releases or hiring a PR firm.
Janet Murray knows what she's talking about
Janet has spent the last fifteen years writing and editing for UK newspapers, magazines including the Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, Times, Sun and Daily Mail.
Janet has pitched (and successfully placed) countless stories in the national media and also commissioned hundreds of stories (and turned down many more).
You could say, Janet knows a thing or two about what journalists are looking for in a story (and, crucially, what they’re not).
In fact, she recently wrote a book about it: Your Press Release Is Breaking My Heart: A Totally Unconventional Guide To Selling Your Story In The Media.
5 ways Janet can help you for free (or next-to-nothing)

149: Is Video an Afterthought?
Amy Schmittauer joins me to discuss why video is right now and discusses the new show, by Aftermarq, "Afterthoughts".
What is Savvy Sexy Social? The mission of Savvy Sexy Social is to empower brands to embrace their amazing personality and share it with the world. By sharing desired content of your target market and becoming the go-to resource for customer, you’ll discover how to build brand advocacy and engaging relationships introduced and nurtured by social media in turn building your business.
I’ve always loved the process of finding the perfect name for my creations (and pets). But I just got plain lucky with this one. When I wanted to create a resource that helps brands design a plan to effectively and relatably reach an activated and loyal audience, the words ‘savvy’, ‘sexy’, and ‘social’ truly described everything I knew I wanted to share.
SAVVY — Understanding the purpose, context and optimal techniques of building brand awareness no matter if the tools are online or off.
SEXY — Learning how to appeal to your audience online in a way that connects you to real people and makes happen or fits into relatable conversations.
SOCIAL — Discovering amazing opportunities at your disposal that you have to connect with people by finding where they’re hanging out and how to best work your brand name into the conversation.
All in all, this is a place where you can learn executable steps to discover your brand’s personality and market it across platforms in a fashion that works with the current trends of inviting conversations and telling stories.

147: Can Pokemon Go Change the World?
Any 90’s kid knows this game from getting either Red, Yellow or Blue game cartridge for their Gameboy. Or maybe you played the card game and winning the epic Mewtwo in a battle with your friends at recess was your jam. Either way, Pokèmon was a game that everyone would play and talk about.
Fast forward nearly over 25 years to 2016.
Pokèmon Go is the new rage with an added twist. Rather than move your thumbs to guide a digital character across the map, you now have to physically move around to catch ’em all. Your world is your map.

146: Are Content Promotion Strategies Worth Your Time?
Ever spend 5, 10 or even 20 hours writing a high quality blog post only to watch it fall by the wayside?
Your new post fails to attract social shares, traffic or email subscribers.
It’s the ultimate reason most bloggers quit after 3 months.
So what should you do?
Spend years honing your writing skills?
Make a deal with the devil, go to sleep a nobody and wake up an Influencer?
But what if there was a way…
To drive more traffic and subscribers to every post you publish, to know with utmost certainty that every post you publish will crush it before you write it?
Well, there is:
Content promotion.
About Cody Lister:
When Cody Lister graduated, he stayed in New York to start his career in corporate finance. When Cody was 24, he caught an intense case of the startup bug and changed careers to work at two startups, one in financial research and news and another in social media reputation management. Before Cody worked at the social media reputation management company, he started managing pay per click ads for small and medium-sized businesses.
Along the way, Cody found out that he had a knack for optimizing online ads! Once he left the social media company, Cody ramped up his pay per click advertising clients to turn it into a full-time business. Along the way, he learned how to write “epic” content and guest posts by following what the other top blogs were doing. (That means he jumped from “Financial Analyst” to “Marketing Director” to “CEO” as my job title)
The issue then became scaling up. He's always had fire in my belly for helping small businesses and he love the impact paid search, content marketing and guest blogging can have on a business’ bottom line. But he knew if he wanted to grow his business and make more money, he would need to find larger corporate clients that could pay him bigger fees.
That’s when Cody decided to start the MarketDoc blog and create online courses, to help small business owners, solopreneurs and bloggers grow their businesses by combining the power of effective blogging and content promotion strategies that work. There’s too much misinformation out there and he wants to serve as your go to resource for what’s working right now.
Cody has been featured by some of the top blogs out there, like Lifehack, SEMrush, Kikolani and soon Kissmetrics, Nathalie Lussier’s AmbitionAlly blog and more! Cody writes at least 1,000 words per day because he enjoys it and enjoys teaching small businesses as much as possible.

144: The Ace Formula on How to Buy a Business
Rescuing small businesses is all the rage on television. Whether its Jon Taffer with Bar
Rescue, or Tabitha Coffey’s Salon Takeover. Despite the fact that none of them do it, these TV
shows are fueling interest in a new trend. Move over Real Estate Flippers, Ace Chapman is
building a nationwide group of business flippers.
Ace bought his first business at 19 with some savings from a summer job and caught the
business buying bug. He leveraged $3,000 he saved working the summer before college into
buying a business for $70,000. Over the last 16 years he has bought 40 businesses.
Everything ranging from a Mortgage Company to a Clothing Retailer.
And right now he is seeing an explosion in the market for businesses under $2,000,000. “There are millions of Baby Boomer business owners who will bring their business to market in the next decade so they can retire. During the recession, many baby boomers wanted to sell their company but decided to hold off until better economic times.”
At the same time many entrepreneurs are realizing the risks associated with starting from scratch are too high and are deciding to buy an existing profitable business instead.
Business sales saw a spike in 2013. While we saw a 68% increase in 2013 according to BizBuySell.com, business brokers expect 2014 to be even bigger. And while private equity firms are well positioned to take advantage of this increase in inventory, very few are paying attention to what Ace calls the Micro Private Equity Market.
Ace began working with first time business buyers of business buyers and helping them find, do due diligence, and finance small business acquisitions. “I have had a lot of people who find me and ask to invest in my deals. I’d rather show you what I am doing than take your money and have to split my returns.”
Since starting his network of business buyers he has helped members close deals all over the country. From 2 Sylvan Learning Centers in Seattle, to a Software Company in Pittsburgh and from a Fitness Gym in Huntsville to a Catholic Retailer in South Dakota were deals done in recent months by the network.
Business buyers are attracted to buying a business instead of starting one for obvious reasons.
● It’s easier to get financing to buy an existing business than to start the new
one. Bankers and investors are more comfortable in dealing with
businesses which already have a proven work results.
● Starting a new business requires investments in a period of 3 to 6 months,
and many entrepreneurs never get to the period of earning. When buying
an assisting business you have an idea of what your salary is going to be
day one.
● Business buyers do not have to go through hiring and training new
employees, developing operation systems, and marketing plans. They
start day one improving the business instead of building each department
from scratch.
Still, Mr. Chapman says buying a business is risky, especially if you do not know
what you are doing. “Whenever you are buying a business you are looking at the
past, there is no guarantee that those numbers reflect the future”, says Chapman.
“You should find a business broker or advisor who has your best interest at heart.
The more experience you and your advisors have the easier it is to find the hidden
landmines in any business.”
