So you want to be an influencer? Here’s how:

So you want to be an influencer? Here’s how:

According to Media Kix, “by 2020, influencer marketing is projected to become a $10 billion industry.” Okay, I know the social media platforms we tend to populate may seem oversaturated, but take TikTok for example. We’ve been accustomed to the same platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook where influencers were promoting their content. Now we have a new platform, which means new opportunities for fresh faces, content, and more money from advertisers and brands. Even if TikTok isn’t your thing, just because a platform is “over saturated” that doesn’t mean your area of expertise is.

Also, according to Influencer Marketing Hub, “28% of companies consider influencer marketing to be the fastest-growing online customer-acquisition channel, leaving organic search, paid search, and email marketing behind.” Since so many of us turn to digital platforms not only for news and entertainment, the days of traditional marketing and advertisements are dwindling away and companies want to utilize more niche and direct ways to reach their audience through the use of influencers.

I had the pleasure of surveying about 520 Black women, and more than 78% of these women said that influencers, bloggers, and social media reviews were the reason they were inspired to try a new product or service. As an influencer and consumer myself, I’d say the reason for this is because our audience typically recognizes that we are everyday people. It does seem like the “celebrity” status is a bit out of touch and can seem unreliable for most, so when your classmate, cousin, or neighbor decides to pick up a camera and start telling their opinion, we’re more likely to listen.

So here are my 10 tips for anyone inspiring to become an influencer .

Let’s get into my tips for aspiring influencers:

  1. Figure out your category focus: What will you be discussing on your platforms
  2. Try to master your niche: How are you going to do things differently than those already doing what you do?
  3. Understand your audience. Who are you talking to?
  4. What social media platform is best for you?
  5. Create, create, create
  6. Collaborate
  7. Video is king
  8. Be your authentic self
  9. Cover the latest in your industry
  10. Want to work with brands? & Tag them, show off their products

Creating Safe Spaces For Black Girls w/@MarlineFrancois

Creating Safe Spaces For Black Girls w/@MarlineFrancois

Happy Tuesday! Don't forget that whatever you want in life, you have to work for it!

In today's episode, I sat down with Marline Francois-Madden, a licensed psychotherapist, phenomenal public speaker, entrepreneur and bestselling author of The State of Black Girls: A go-to guide for creating safe spaces for Black girls.  We touched on mental health, chasing our dreams,

Here's some notes from today's episode.

  1.  Stay true to yourself. Yes, surround yourself with greatness, but don't allow your friends dreams to become your own.
  2.  Learn from all of your failures. Use them as fuel to keep going, not a reason to give up.
  3. It's not always about what you know, it's who you know. Stay connected to mentors and leaders in your industry that can further connect you with jobs, opportunities, and other individuals.
  4.  Representation is essential. If there's a gap or a lack of positive representation in your areas of interest, it's okay to take the leap and be the person to solve that problem.

Success Comes When You Work For It w/ @SherriJlovely

Success Comes When You Work For It w/ @SherriJlovely

Happy Thursday! Would you allow a slight pivot in your path to cause you to throw away all of your dreams and passion? You better not!
In today's episode I sat down with Sherri J, a teen mom turned effortless success story by living a life filled with passion, dedication, and purpose. She is an author of Success Souvenirs, a memoir that details some of her life's most defining. She is also an advocate for early childhood education, and owns several childcare facilities in the Metro Atlanta area.
Here’s a few take aways from my chat with Sherri J:

Share your story, you never know who needs to hear it.
It's ok to ask for help with your business. You don't know everything, and asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a step into the right direction of growth.
What's successful for one endeavor, might not apply to another. Approach all projects with a fresh and new mindset, and use past projects as reference, not the blueprint.
Perfect branding isn't perfectly packaged. It's not about your logo, or staged photographs, it's about your ability to use your voice to authentically connect with your supporters.

The Grind Never Stops w/ @LavishRuby

The Grind Never Stops w/ @LavishRuby

Happy Tuesday! Does being a young boss seem unattainable? In Today’s episode I sat down with Ruby, a recent graduate, entrepreneur and motivational speaker who is going hard and not going home. She is the CEO of The Lavish Life Brand, where she sells academic planners and premium hair weave. Ruby is dedicated to her brand and has no issue sharing her journey on YouTube with her 60K+ subscribers.

Here’s a few take aways from this episode:

  1. Solve a problem. When Ruby realized her subscribers were interested in learning more about how she was staying organized and managing college as an athlete and bio pre-medicine major, she began vlogging and eventually created her own planner @TheLavishLifeBrand.
  2. Stay in touch with your audience. Don’t ever become too big that you can’t simple tell your supporters thank you.
  3. Build a team. You're amazing, but so are other people. Build a great team, especially in the areas that you lack so that you're able to be the magic you are.
  4. Always see the big picture. If you always see your business or ideas as small, they'll always be just that.
