EP25 - Making money from podcasting
In this episode, I’m covering the ways in which you can monetise your podcast efforts for a potential financial return on investment. I’m yet to see a meaningful return on investment from my podcasts, nor have I expected it, in terms of financial return. Because I personally see podcasting as a long-term brand building touchpoint to connect with listeners for you as a personal brand or as part of a business. But in this episode, I cover 7 ways you can monetise your podcast that includes: Have a sponsor or place ads in your episodes Be an affiliate partner for commissions on sales Create a course based on your podcast content Paid/premium subscription model Listener donations/tips Hold events for listeners Sell your own products/services But what I will say is that if you do a great job in nurturing the community you’re building as a result of putting your show out there with a great amount of effort and love in return for their listenership, you may just be rewarded for that genuine effort to help others. EP24 - Creating content for your podcast
In this episode, it’s time to talk CONTENT CREATION for your podcast. Now full disclosure, the content I now put out there about podcasting and this podcast has dwindled a little. Because A) it takes a lot of effort to create it consistently B) I already create a heap of content as it is So for you, my dear listener, if your goal is to increase your listenership due to more and more people discovering your show. Building a show and hoping people will come is 1/3 - 2/3 of the battle. To get your show out there, we need to promote it in all the available places we can and obviously with the capacity we’re able to do so. Be it on social media, YouTube, your website, articles on Medium and more. I also reference Gary Vee for the second time in two straight episodes - but I reference a resource him and his team put out a little while back. If you want to check it out his article, the link is below: How to create 64 pieces of content in a day: https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/how-to-create-64-pieces-of-content-in-a-day/ To find more information about this podcast or connect with Frank, head to: brandmypodcast.com Instagram.com/gdayfrank

EP23 - How can a podcast help your business?
In this episode, I’m diving into the topic of creating a podcast for your business - either directly or indirectly. Because as a business or as an owner, a podcast can be a great additional platform to promote the business, elevate the standing of you as the owner in your industry (maybe you want to be a thought leader) or as a way to build your brand or launch a new product or service. Throughout the episode I take you through 5 key questions: Does your podcast need to be about what it is you do? How do you connect with clients via a podcast? Why would you want an existing client on your show? Why would you want to have a potential client on your show? How can you make a podcast achievable for a business? For me personally, podcasting as a business owner has opened the doors to meeting new people from all around the world and creating much better relationships with those people. AND It’s even lead to creative work for my business. But the biggest payoff for me has been the confidence in speaking which has translated not only into creating video content, but also helped the way I communicate with my clients and new connections. EP22 - Removing the umm’s and ahh’s
In this episode, I’m talking about how I’m taking the initiative to remove the umm’s and ahh’s when I talk. Along with ‘Sort of’, ‘Kind of’, ‘Like’ and ‘uhhh’. It’s tricky to do when you’re as sloppy as me with my speech. Especially as an Aussie when we use so much slang in our English dialect. So I did a little digging on YouTube as I’m on there for most of my working days and found a few good tips from these three people below: Allison Shapira https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QJVoZffELo Vinh Giang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7rgokSZ5eg David Bunney https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sv6Fi70Aug Do check them out as I cover them in this episode and they are going to be the tips I hope to implement as I level up this podcast over time. Which I hope will also prove to be useful for you if you have the same niggling habit of using filler words that get in the way of getting to the point and coming across as more knowledgable or a least more thoughtful. Because at the end of the day, podcasting is all about how you communicate verbally in most instances. The more eloquent we can be, the better. EP21 - When should you level up your podcast gear?
In this episode I’m talking tech & gear that will level up and enhance your podcasting experience, both for you and for your listeners. It’s a bit of a product listing type of episode so for links to all the things I talk about in these show, below are the names of each product-usb I mention: Mics: Blue Yeti Shure MV7 Rode NT-USB/USB-Mini Rode Podmic Blue Bluebird Shure SM7B Rode NT1 Audio Interfaces (XLR mics to USB/SD card): Rode AI1 Focusrite Scarlet Rode Rodcaster Pro Zoom P8 Zoom Podtrack P4 Accessories: Boom arms: Rode PSA1, Blue Compass Pop Filters: cheap foam covers/clip on panels Sound dampening: acoustic tiles Headphones (up to your personal preference) Microphone gain lifter: Cloud Lifter, Fethead, Dynamite Podcast hosts: Sounder.fm Audio Editing: Adobe Creative Cloud: Adobe Audition/Premiere Pro DaVinci Resolve Garageband Content Creation: Descript Veed.io In addition to the products and services I cover in this episode, I also cover 3 simple indicators for the time to level up your podcast experience. So if you’re in two minds about what to get and when - I hope this episode will help. EP20 - Co-hosting a podcast
In this episode, we’re digging into the question of whether you should start a co-hosted podcast with one or multiple people. This comes off the back of making a co-hosted season of 20 episodes in one of my other podcast shows, Branding Banter. Along with some observations of how other podcasters produce a co-hosted show. And of course, a heap of tips in this episode to keep in mind for your own co-hosted episodes: Make a set time each week to record an episode or multiple episodes in a batch Record your shows well in advance to avoid scheduling problems and not having an episode for each week Don’t be afraid to have solo episodes of just yourselves talking Short of recording in-person, having a video feed can help you when knowing when your co-host or a guest is going to speak so you don’t talk over one another. Have an episode format where each of you knows when the other is going to be talking, especially for introducing talking points or guest questions. Record in seasons to give yourself a break too. Podcasting may be easily accessible to start a show, but if you’ve not noticed already, they can become fairly complex and/or labour intensive as you go along, especially if you’re co-hosting a show. So create a system for your show that makes showing up for each of you as frictionless as possible. EP19 - Got a dreaded case of pod-fade?
In this episode, we’re diagnosing and treating your case of what podcasters call “pod-fade”. I’ve put my equivalent of a doctors stethoscope, which will be an XLR mic cable and my headphones on to mimic one of those mirror things doctors used to wear back in the day … and we’re gonna diagnose the problem of pod fade. Pod-fade is when the honeymoon period of podcasting dies and the effort to produce a show becomes tiresome or monotonous and leaves you with a feeling of wanting to take a break or stopping your show entirely. Most likely taking a break with the ambition to bring it back. Some symptoms: Organising guests or co-host timing to record Editing your episodes yourself when they are longer than 30 minutes Not keeping up with posting content to let people know about your podcast Running out of ideas to talk about A lack of motivation about a drop in numbers or a low number of listeners tuning in consistently throughout. Some tactics to avoid pod-fade: Batch record your episodes Keep your episode length to a manageable length Hire an editor to edit your show Utilise seasons Have someone create your social media content Change up the format over time Develop a system that makes it as easy as possible to produce your show. So let’s take that burden off our shoulders and work out a way to overcome that dreaded pod-fade and ensure we make it a great experience for ourselves as hosts, just as much as we strive to do for our listeners. EP18 - Bring your personality to your podcast
In this episode, we’re focused on bringing your personality to the microphone when it comes to producing a unique podcast. Because as the name of this show suggests, we want to brand your podcast and one way to do so is to make yourself that star of the show. Just like a TV comedy or drama show, there are the reoccurring lead characters. In podcast land, this is you, the host. Guest appearances on a TV show and on your show aren’t what make it unique, otherwise, you’d have them on week after week to make them part of what people tune in for. In addition to this, you have the ability to tell and share your story across your episodes that are revealed like a character’s story arc over the course of a season in that TV show. So if you bring your personality to the forefront of your show and share a bit about yourself along the way - be it the stories you tell or the knowledge you share, it adds to the content that your listeners tune in for time and time again. Which just like a business are the touchpoints a listener will remember you for, tell others about and come back for more. The best part is that you can do so bit-by-bit over time so that your listeners can also see a progression in your journey as you have this extended period of time with them to connect and engage with them. So that if you start out a little shaky to begin with (especially if this is your first time podcasting), your listeners are going to appreciate your character development and the journey you’ve taken them on to be a more confident and engaging podcast host! EP17 - ‘Legally speaking’ podcasting
In this episode, I’m bringing to the table the experience I’ve had with covering my podcasting arse. And no I’m not talking about putting a pop filter over my PodMic. This week it’s adding some legal protections to your show in the form of 1) a podcast guest release form, and 2) having a privacy policy and terms & conditions page on your website if you have a standalone website tied to your podcast (not including the site given to you by your hosting provider). It will help set the tone for the level of professionalism you are bringing to the table for your podcast and from experience, it shows your commitment to producing a great show. EP16 - A unique approach to podcast PT.2 - w/ James Bishop
This is part 2/2 of a chat I had with James Bishop from One Fine Play in the UK. Now if you haven’t listened to Part 1, go back and have a listen to that one first as these 2 eps are two of the most value-packed eps about podcasting that you could ask for and learn from. In this particular episode though, we talk about this analogy James uses for podcasting to say that if we look at podcasting like a Netflix series we can maintain consistency. Rather than trying to be a news program and burn out after 20 episodes. There’s also a wider lens to look at as well in this same context of the Netflix analogy in that our podcast purpose needs a higher vision for what our content focus could turn into. Once again I get totally schooled and I ain’t crying about it either because I know it will help me make a better show for you AND help you make a better show just the same. EP15 - A unique approach to podcasting PT.1 - w/ James Bishop
This is part 1 of 2 from a chat I had with James Bishop from One Fine Play in the UK. Typically, you’re gonna find the same bits of info about podcasting across the internet. I know I’ve seen the same kinds of blog posts/articles and videos that go through the same tips and tricks. But I’m also the first to admit spitting out the same kinda information you’d probably find anywhere. However, using the quote “when 1 teaches, 2 learn” by Robert Heinlein, day by day I’m sharing what I learn when it comes to the world of podcast. Now, this same sameness is also typically because of the old guard of podcasting royalty and that the perception of podcasting hasn’t shifted all that much in the last 15 years since it came about. However I saw a post on LinkedIn from my guest of this episode and it changed my perception of what podcasting should or at least how it can be treated. James by his own admission is quite forthright in his delivery of what he believes is a new way of producing podcasts. Which I tend to agree with after our conversation after completely schooling me and you’ll get where I’m coming from once you listen to this episode and the subsequent Part 2 of our conversation in EP16. EP14 - Audio branding will turn your podcast up to 11 - w/Drop Music Branding
One part of branding your podcast that we’ve totally danced around until now is audio branding. It’s often the forgotten part of a branded experience, either for businesses, personal brands and even podcasts. But for podcasts, the medium we’re working with is inherently audio only to communicate with our listeners. So for this episode, I’ve brought in Gabo and Mauro from Drop Music Branding, based in Argentina. The guys share their process and perspective of how audio can influence the experience of your audience in amazing ways that consciously go unnoticed. But when audio branding is doing it’s job well in something like your podcast, it serves as a unique touchpoint that can set your listeners expectations, capture their attention or even influence their mood and decisions. When you’re starting a podcast, especially as a creative - designing your cover art for the show can either be the fun part - or may even be a tedious process of knowing what to focus on to make eye-catching and memorable cover art. In this episode, I’m covering 3 key things to consider when designing your podcast cover art and also how you can create your podcast cover art yourself or with the help of a designer like me. EP9 - Give your podcast a clear structure
This is the episode where we double down into properly producing our podcast show, episode after episode with a clear structure. After all, we want to be taken seriously, so why not give our listeners a show that means business. Now to give you a prime example of where this episode heads. You know when you watch a major news bulletin at night, they follow a clear structure. It typically goes like this - intro, top stories, more in-depth content, finance, sport, weather, feel-good story and then an outro. THIS is how we want to produce our podcasts and draw those parallels to the news, in a structure that our audience becomes custom to. Because our listeners are going to have an expectation to hear the same great stuff, time and time again. Especially in a format that feels familiar, recognisable and consistent during their listening experience. EP8 - Quality microphone or quality content?
If you’re starting out and getting stuck on the thought of what microphone you need to be professional with, hold your horses. You’re forgetting what ideal listeners are coming to listen to your podcast for. Your content! Well, you as well or for your guest, but both are what make up the delivery of the content. Your audio quality is not the make or break of what makes a good, if not a great podcast. Because in whatever stage you are of your business or personal brand presence you always have the opportunity to level up your audio quality. But you want to jump out of the gate with fire podcast content that is maintained consistently. When starting your podcast, it might be the first time you’re properly stepping up to the mic and that may be daunting as hell that first time you hit record. To this day I even re-record some episodes but that may be because the perfectionist in me is coming out. With that said, this podcast reflects on the insecurities we all have at different stages of our podcast journey.
