This week, Helen and Katrina discuss their latest report that explores how genders and sexualities are represented across UK policies, or in some cases, aren't represented at all...
Intersectionality
This episode is all about intersectionality and how we both understand, and apply the concept. We explore why it matters in our own research and some of the challenges that come when exploring individual's identities through a truly intersectional lens.
Mapping Understandings of Gender and Sexuality in Policy
Welcome to a special edition of Prefer Not to Say! In this episode, Helen and Katrina will discuss the most recent (and first) report from the Breaking Binaries Binaries team. We discuss our analysis of UK, Welsh and Scottish policy where we sought to understand how gender and sexuality was understood and applied (or in some cases weren't applied at all).
To discuss our report we are joined by one of the report authors, Alice Elworthy - a research assistant on the Breaking Binaries program - to help talk us through our key findings. Tune in to find out more!
Introduction: About Breaking Binaries
Welcome to the first ever episode of 'Prefer not to say!', a podcast as a side to the project Breaking Binaries. Breaking Binaries, as you will discover, is a project founded by Katrina Pritchard and Helen Williams, which explores and unpacks complex identities at work.
We will begin by introducing ourselves, and then we will be taking it in turns to ask each other various questions. These will include what motivates us at work, what is something that is important to the way that we identify, what is one piece of advice that we would give to a younger version of ourselves, and even...what is an insult received that we have been proud of.
Finally, Katrina and Helen will explain Breaking Binaries in more detail, discussing how they became motivated to create this project, issues relating to the project and the purpose of the project.
