Whatever it is that scares you, here are 10 ways to help you cope with your day-to-day fears and anxieties.

These tips are for people who are coping with everyday fears. If you have been diagnosed with an anxiety-related condition, see our page on generalised anxiety disorder.

1. Take time out
It's impossible to think clearly when you're flooded with fear or anxiety. The first thing to do is take time out so you can physically calm down.

Distract yourself from the worry for 15 minutes by walking around the block, making a cup of tea or having a bath.

2. Breathe through panic
If you start to get a faster heartbeat or sweating palms, the best thing is not to fight it.

Stay where you are and simply feel the panic without trying to distract yourself. Place the palm of your hand on your stomach and breathe slowly and deeply.

The goal is to help the mind get used to coping with panic, which takes the fear of fear away.

3. Face your fears
Avoiding fears only makes them scarier. Whatever your fear, if you face it, it should start to fade. If you panic one day getting into a lift, for example, it's best to get back into a lift the next day.

4. Imagine the worst
Try imagining the worst thing that can happen – perhaps it's panicking and having a heart attack. Then try to think yourself into having a heart attack. It's just not possible. The fear will run away the more you chase it.

5. Look at the evidence
It sometimes helps to challenge fearful thoughts. For example, if you're scared of getting trapped in a lift and suffocating, ask yourself if you have ever heard of this happening to someone. Ask yourself what you would say to a friend who had a similar fear.

6. Don't try to be perfect
Life is full of stresses, yet many of us feel that our lives must be perfect. Bad days and setbacks will always happen, and it's important to remember that life is messy.

7. Visualise a happy place
Take a moment to close your eyes and imagine a place of safety and calm. It could be a picture of you walking on a beautiful beach, or snuggled up in bed with the cat next to you, or a happy memory from childhood. Let the positive feelings soothe you until you feel more relaxed.

8. Talk about it
Sharing fears takes away a lot of their scariness. If you can't talk to a partner, friend or family member, call a helpline such as Breathing Space on 0800 83 85 87 or Samaritans on 116 123.

You could also try a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy approach over the telephone, with a service such as NHS Living Life. If you would like to find out more about this appointment-based service, you can visit the Living Life website or phone 0800 328 9655 (Mon to Fri, 1pm to 9pm).

If your fears aren't going away, you can ask your GP for help. GPs can refer people for counselling, psychotherapy or help through an online mental health service, such as Living Life to the Full.

9. Go back to basics
Lots of people turn to alcohol or drugs to self-treat anxiety, but this will only make matters worse. Simple, everyday things like a good night's sleep, a wholesome meal and a walk are often the best cures for anxiety.

10. Reward yourself
Finally, give yourself a treat. When you've made that call you've been dreading, for example, reinforce your success by treating yourself to a massage, a country walk, a meal out, a book, a DVD, or whatever little gift makes you happy.

How you feel, and how you think creates your estate of being. So, if you think insecure thoughts, in a matter of seconds you will feel insecure. The repetition of this “emotions + thoughts” cycle conditions the body to “embody” insecurity.

Feelings and emotions are the end product of past experiences. Learning how to self-regulate has been one of my favorite discoveries of 2020. If you can’t think better than what you feel, those emotions keep you grounded in the past. Now I know that to create a new life, we must first create a new set of thoughts. But this is all easier said than done. This new “habit” of creating the “new you” takes a lot of conscious effort, discipline, practice. I believe all Well worth it if the end result is mastering your dream life.


How you think, how you act and how you feel create your personality, and your personality creates your personal reality. I loved 2020 for pushing me out of my comfort zone, and to learn how to go in, within. But why do we have to wait for some crisis to happen to create change in our lives?

There is a principle in neuroscience, nervous cells that fire together, wire together - how did you re wire your brain during CANCER? Please tell me you did not stay the same. If you fire and wire the connectors the same way, these memorized behaviors become unconscious habits, automatic emotional reactions, beliefs and perceptions. And even attitudes that function like a computer program. If you do something over and over again, the repetition of these actions conditions your body to do it better than your mind. Fascinating, right?

A habit is when the body knows something better than the mind. 95% of most people’s behaviors are subconscious programs running the show. Why is this important? Because this year was definitely the year to create new connections in our brain. The uncertainty, the unknown global crisis, in that void is where the “new you” is born. Teach your body emotionally what your future is going to feel like. Every emotion has a chemical reaction in your body. This is why your thoughts can both heal you or make you sick. There is no amount of healthy food that is going to save you from yourself if you have ill thoughts. Your thoughts control your emotions and these emotions the chemical reactions in your body. If you are feeling fear, anxiety, scarcity, stress, shame, guilt; sooner or later (if you repeat it over and over again) your body will start to “embody” these emotions, showing up as “poison” to your body. This is how we get sick - when we embody ill thoughts, we literally make our body ill.

Vincent Van Gogh failed as an art dealer, flunked his entrance exam to theology school, and was fired by the church after an ill-fated attempt at missionary work. In fact, during his life, he seldom experienced anything other than failure as an artist. Although a single painting by Van Gogh would fetch in excess of $100 million today, in his lifetime Van Gogh sold only one painting, four months prior to his death.

Before developing his theory of relativity, Albert Einstein encountered academic failure. One headmaster expelled Einstein from school and another teacher predicted that he would never amount to anything. Einstein even failed his entrance exam into college.

Prior to dazzling the world with his athletic skill, Michael Jordan was cut from his sophomore basketball team. Even though he captured six championships, during his professional career, Jordan missed over 12,000 shots, lost nearly 400 games, and failed to make more than 25 would-be game-winning baskets.

Failure didn’t stop Vincent Van Gogh from painting, Albert Einstein from theorizing, or Michael Jordan from playing basketball, but it has paralyzed countless leaders and prevented them from reaching their potential.

At some point, all great achievers are tempted to believe they are failures. But in spite of that, they persevere. In the face of adversity, shortcomings, and rejection, they hold onto self-belief and refuse to see themselves as failures. Here are seven abilities of achievers that enable them to rebound from failure and keep moving forward.

Seven Principles for Failing Forward

Reject Rejection

Achievers who persevere do not base their self-worth on their performance. On the contrary, they have a healthy self-image that’s not dictated by external events. When they fall short, rather than labeling themselves a failure, they learn from mistakes in their judgment or behavior.

Don’t Point Fingers

When people fail, they’re often tempted to blame others for their lack of success. By pointing fingers, they sink into a victim mentality and cede their fate to outsiders. When playing the blame game, people rob themselves of learning from their failures and alienate others by refusing to take responsibility for mistakes.

See Failure as Temporary

People who personalize failure see a problem as a hole they’re permanently stuck in, whereas achievers see any predicament as temporary. One mindset wallows in failure, the other looks forward to success. By putting mistakes into perspective, achievers are able to see failure as a momentary event, not a symptom of a lifelong epidemic.

Set Realistic Expectations

Unrealistic goals doom people to failure. For instance, if a person hasn’t exercised for five years, then making it to a gym twice a week may be a better goal than running in next month’s marathon. Also, some people insensibly expect to be perfect. Everyone fails, so expect setbacks and emotionally prepare to deal with them.

It’s important that they actively get help from a counselor, psychologist, teacher or doctor. If they don’t feel comfortable talking in person, they call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or youth helpline Your Life Your Voice at 1-800-448-3000. HOW TO TALK TO YOUR FRIEND’S PARENT IF YOU THINK YOUR FRIEND IS CONSIDERING SUICIDE Remain calm. Sit one or both parents/ guardian down in a quiet Talk about the warning signs you’ve noticed Talk about, and possibly share, any evidence you’ve been shown or found (i.e. text messages, notes, social media postings, poems, drawings, phone calls, etc.) Share what reasons your friend gave and that you’ve spoken to them previously and are not convinced they won’t make an attempt WHAT TO DO IF YOUR FRIEND, OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW, HAS MADE AN ATTEMPT AND IS IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE SUPPORT IMMEDIATELY DIALL 911 and send them to the persons current location Pick up the phone and call their parent, older sibling or anyone else who may be able to get to them quickly Contact your parent or a trusted adult to get help with this process immediately. This will be a terrifying process if you do it alone. If you saw the post on social media, screen shot it in an effort to show officials what you saw If they live in another State and you can’t contact parents or family, google the number to the police station in their City and tell them it’s an emergency. From experience, calling 911 in your State won’t help. They can’t transfer you and can only give you the number to the Police Station in their City. Save yourself 10 minutes and look it up yourself. You may also try to contact the Fire Station in their City. I didn’t try this but it’s worth a shot. The key is to get them help as quickly as possible.

I invite to become an emotional gánster - a movement that promotes emotional intelligence and vulnerability as an strength and not weakness. We live in a world where we are used to numb our feelings & emotions in order to fit in. We are sold the idea that if we are not happy we are broken. We are sold on the idea that in order to be at peace and happy we need to consume: more bags, more shoes, a bigger house, a more expensive car, etc... We are only allow to show emotions that make others feel comfortable, not showing our true colors, fears and insecurities is socially acceptable instead of promoting all of our feelings because WE ARE HUMAN, we are allowed to feel bad or sad or depressed or confused or vulnerable. We look outside for validation instead of learning to hear our inner voice, our fire, our spirit, our passions, our instincts. Here some tips to become an “EMOTIONAL GANGSTER”: 😎 1) Embrace sensitivity in you and others : cry if you want to cry, laugh a lot of you want to, be spontaneous, feel depleted if that’s your state of mind. Embrace the wave and learn how to surf in it. 2) Dont be afraid to be vulnerable. Learn that this is a strength and now a weakness. Why are we so afraid to express our feelings? Why do we have such a hard time saying I love you or I like you or I hate you? And describing why? 3) Learn your emotional vocabulary and make it richer every day. One of the most important things we can do is to learn how to express our feelings and emotions in a detailed organized way. Breaking down your inner yearnings is going to make you stronger and more in tune with yourself. And perhaps this is the healthiest way to approach life! 4) Block people that bully your feelings. Your feelings are who you are and they are here to stay! Don’t seek out validation from people that don’t “agree with your feelings “ because only YOU can tell why this emotional response is inside of you. Block people’s opinion on your emotions because they have no idea what’s happening inside of your soul and they haven’t walked in the same shoes as you. Period! 5) Let it flow - understand that no emotion is permanent- good or bad they are here to change. They are here for a reason and perhaps they are here to change us. Embrace the magic of your deepest feelings because this will make you an emotional gangster. 6) Trust your intuition- break the chains of the patterns that keep you caged in the mold. Develop your third eye, your faith, your power or however you want to call it. Your intuition is your super power so don’t shut it off. Ever! 7) Love is pain and pain is pleasure. Also, life is pain and pain is pleasure. You can’t feel happy, love, peace and serenity without also feeling sad, depressed, angry. We need both in order to appreciate the other. Use pain as a point of reference to transform your life. You need to experience pain in order to evolve. DONT NUMB THAT PAIN EVER! 8) Believe in yourself- like a gang - you should organize yourself to protect your feelings. Shoot people in the face (sort of speak) that don’t believe in you. Block them! They are not allowed in your private sacred space that is you and your soul. Protect your heart and make it bullet proof. 9) Change the views we have about emotional behavior and language in generations to come. Let’s stop teaching boys not to cry and girls to be delicate flowers. We are all human and we deserve to feel what we feel. ALL THE TIME, no matter our gender, age or social status. 10) Ask questions and break the mold - when you feel something ask yourself why? And the why should not be what we learned since little or through religion or culture or school. Find the whys that teach you who you are; not who others want you to be. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about emotional intelligence:
the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
"emotional intelligence is the key to both personal and professional success"

It’s 5 components are the following:

Self-Awareness.
Self-Regulation.
Motivation.
Empathy.
Social Skills.

Do you know what each one of them mean to YOU? Do you know how they each affect your daily life? Can you say with certainty if you have one more than the other and how you could improve them?

A high EQ helps individuals to communicate better, reduce their anxiety and stress, defuse conflicts, improve relationships, empathize with others, and effectively overcome life's challenges.


Here some signs of high EQ - can you relate to any?

You think about feelings. ...
You pause. ...
You strive to control your thoughts. ...
You benefit from criticism. ...
You show authenticity. ...
You demonstrate empathy. ...
You praise others. ...

Some tips on how to improve your EQ

Reflect on your own emotions.

It indicates a desire to nurture your partner and the bond between you two.” She went on to explain that this way of communicating replicates that very first bonding experience we have in this world — usually with our primary caregivers. When a parent speaks this way to their child, it’s a way to establish love, bonding, affection and a sense of security. The same is true when it comes to adult romantic partnerships.
