My name is Brent Mukai. This is my podcast. I update every Wednesday!
I'm a full time voice actor, improv trainer and entertainer, these are my rants, and musings. I've got a big mouth, but even bigger dreams, and if you'd like to follow my journey, I'd be honored to have you!
Thanks for listening, drop me a message or a line and let me know what you think! ~Brent
A few months ago (before I took a personal vow to quarantine myself from social media for a couple months) I had a nice chat with an awesome voiceover friend, who you may know from the Trials of Mana, Wasteland 3, and Kart Rider Rush+, or the feature film Children of the Sea.
Beau Bridgland is my guest on today’s episode, so please enjoy his wit, charm and just an overall fun conversation, and please follow him here:
This episode marks a humongous achievement for me. Recorded on location which is my car on the side of a street waiting to record this video game😂. Don’t worry I’ll be safe, and as always, thanks for listening!
My friend Val joins me, for a nice fun talk about the trip we took to Phoenix for the Sex and the City Musical Parody, as well as a lot of dumb conversations about BC, and AD, and what it's like being on a game show. At one point, I accidentally break an NDA, and Val says something she's not sure she's supposed to, so for the first time, I've edited out a little portion of the podcast! Still a fun one, enjoy everyone!
I go to WOVO con again, and hug the voice of Bowser from Super Mario! I also have had a busy ass week, but it's been fun! I reveal all, and catch you all up Mukuleles! Now I gotta go to bed so I can wake up and go to Phoenix tomorrow!
Super happy to announce my appearance on the podcast I produce, called The Womanpreneur Podcast! This is for sure one of my favorite things in the world to work on, the podcast with my mentor and friend Melissa Moats, and the woman who taught me about tons of business stuff Amanda McCune asked me to be their first male guest, and it for sure was an honor! In this episode, I talk about the fun of the podcast, as well as lots of big news in the world of Brent Mukai!
Thanks for listening!
So, I have my TV thing on Friday which I'm still not at liberty to talk about, but in other news, I've broken my previous VO records, and am quite pleased! It's been a fun fun couple of days, I'm excited to share.
in my voice acting journey, i've hit a milestone. also i talk about this latest improv class, and how much i love what i'm doing, and it's given me new life to continue going... alright, have fun everyone, hope you enjoyed the latest episode of your favorite Mukai.
The big game I've been talking about, that I booked back last spring. It's out tomorrow. And it's called Dread Nautical. This is a huge milestone in my life, and I'm so grateful for this game, and for you listening to me celebrate the game's announcement. Love ya, thanks for listening,
This is episode is my best to date. Following along on my journey, friend and Mukulele Nikki sends in a wonderful video looking back at the last 99 episodes. I play a song, and then go into a box of old things I took from my childhood house. As always it's fun, sentimental and a little silly. Love ya so much for keeping up with me so long, and thank you for your support and friendship.
See you on the next one,
Fun trip with my girl out in LA, talk about it, realize there's not much to talk about, and get experimental on the stream. Thanks for listening, I hope this is still entertaining for those of you listening! Drop me a line!
Today is a goofy episode. I open a big box of Amazon crap I bought, then snack on stream. Talk about Brent Mukbang, amirite. Anyways, I learn what natural flavors are, sort of, and also learn why it's called the bees knees sort of.
Oops. Lol, sorry ya'll you get two episodes today, cause I slipped up and didn't post this Friday. This one is a long rant as usual. I talk about the upcoming lesson I have with awesome casting director, and about the past roast.
I put my picture up on the RoastMe Reddit, and read off some of the roasts... Some people show up live, and say some nasty stuff, I also talk about some of my favorite roasts, and battle raps... It's just a good time. Let me know what you think!
Today, I'm off my game, so for the yux, I go on the roast me sub reddit (A place where people willingly go and put their picture up, so that they can be roasted), and I roast them. Chat joins in, we have a lot of fun, and I've decided I'm going to post my photo up, and read my roasts out loud on the next podcast!
This episode started out with a lot of the regular stuff, how my week went, how life is going. But then I go off on a tangent (I know crazy right?) about how I think there are more important things to learn in school than upper echelon math and sciences, and i debate the chat. Anyways, Hope this doesn't offend anyone, it's just one dumb guys opinion.
This is a REPOST: I apologize, this posted on my end, but it was brought to my attention that it never got spread out across the audio platforms. Thanks so much to everyone for letting me know! and sorry this is so late.
I talk about the premiere of my good friend Amy Ayoub's documentary made about her incredible life... and share some of my thoughts on some crazy topics.
I talk about my real fear of my kids finding porn on the internet. I don't know if I need much more context than that. We talk everything from furries, to crazy shit. Enjoy. If you'd like to join live, then twitch.tv/BrentMukai Wednesdays and Fridays.
Today I have three projects that I've been working on for the past few weeks, but can't talk about... I literally came out of a big meeting with a Las Vegas show producer, a few hours ago, and can't say a word of what we talked about. So I talk to one of my friends from the Voice Actor Studio in chat, and give her the breakdown on her dreams, and her pursuit of the career she wants in voice over.
Hope this one gets you excited to go out and pursue your dreams!
Sorry if I do a bad job of explainging, but I got a callback to an animated series, and signed an NDA right before jumping on the podcast! I also talk a bunch of improv, and answer questions about voiceover! Brent
On this episode, I track a little bit of growth in the last week, and kinda pat myself on the back for some recent accomplishments. Go into a bit of improv talk, and then just talk some shit like usual!
This is fun. I booked a new video game, and it was dope to talk about, the end of this goes off into a sex talk tangent, but it's fun, and funny, and I hope you like it. It's episode 69. HAHAHAHAHA.
Sorry everyone, I've been trash recently on uploading these in a timely manner... And this episode got away from me completely... Here it is!
This one goes off the rails... The maintenance men came into my apartment, and sealed up my bathtub because there were cracks in it... I was not supposed to come back for a while, but I figured what's the worst that could happen, and the answer to that question is this podcast episode...
I'm joined by Star of Netflix, Youtube Red, and Lifetime, Jeremiah B. McQueen. I've had him on the show before, he was hanging with my roommate in the living room right before I went live, and I decided to ask him if he wanted to be a guest... This one goes deep, and we talk about mental health (anecdotes) in our creative fields, and our views on self improvement.
Hope you're ready for a two hour conversation with my Twitch audience about how I'm dating again! I answer a whole bunch of twitch questions about myself, but honestly, just have a nice long chat about getting back into the dating game!
I'm finding out that even at 29 years old, my mom and sister still have so much to teach me. I'm so happy I got my mom and sister on this one, I look forward to watching this 10 years from now and making fun of the ridiculous things they said on this. This might be my favorite episode to date... just saying.
In this episode, all my live viewers had questions about how to utilize improvisation for their lives, and I was happy to share. This one is full of great advice on confidence, fear, and getting out of your own way. If you enjoy it, then let me know, Brent
Today I'm thinking about my improv kids, and their upcoming match this week! I talk about my views on coaching and teaching, as well as my past history of sucking at improv! I end with some freestyle rap, and in between talk about a dumb taco blanket. Thanks for listening,
I come in spicy on this episode, and touch on some good improv principles, the idea of fetishini, a fetish for pasta, and the haunting realization that John Goodman is the Twin brother of Garfield the Cat or Gustav the Cat in Sweden. This one is full of goofs. Enjoy.
I can't believe it. I gor robbed Thursday, and today is Wednesday, and yesterday I recouped all my money. The kindness of those around me, helped me out. Serioulsy, I can't explain how happy I am. This gratitude is a big part of today's talk, and also, I talk a little anime, and some fun projects I've been working on lately!
Thanks for listening, if you'd like to buy a coloring book page, the price is $15 to email@example.com on paypal, venmo, or applepay. If not, fret not, I still love and appreciate you!
If you wanna check out the Youtube video i mention it's here:
I'm alive and unharmed. I'll start there. Last night, I was furious, and felt betrayed, and angry at myself, and all of it. But Today, I feel more fired up than I have in a long time. And I refuse to let the shitty actions of one individual stop me from being trusting and kind. I definitely learned a lesson, but I'm using this moment to teach a lesson too.
So I'm going to color in this coloring book, and use colored pencils that I got in this bag to prove a point that people are wonderful, and that there is more good in the world, than shitty.
I made a video last night about the incident, that I will entitle how to lose $450 on Craigslist. I am then going to make a video after I make my money back with these dumb colored pencils and coloring book that were in the bag that this guy used to fool me.
I am selling these drawings for $15. That's a lot of money to a lot of people, and I understand if you can't swing it. But if you can, know that you're helping contribute to my story of how I took this bag full of garbage that this guy used to fool me out of my money, and through the kindness of others, I am going to turn it into my money back. I want to prove there is more good than bad in the world.
If you'd like to contribute to that video, then send $15 to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you cannot donate, then I understand, and thank you so much for your attention.
Thank you for all your support, I love you all,
Another fun live episode! I watch more cats vs balloons, I recount my keto break on the donut podcast, and give you the strategy behind competitive improv for teenagers.
This was a good one. Thanks for listening, listen live on Twitch.tv/BrentMukai
After a nice day of laying down lines for an upcoming video game, I chill and put out this cool podcast. Another live podcast, I watch some cat videos, talk some shit about Nick News, and let everyone know my steam punk name.
The Wednesday night class finished up, and one of my young students wrote me what might be the sweetest thing I've ever recieved. The rest is silly talk about popular unpopular opinions, Mark Hammil's profound words on voice acting, and my favorite, pictures of cats. Thanks for listening and watching, love ya,
2nd edition of doing the podcast live on twitch. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the new format from now on! So every wednesday and Friday come join me live for new episodes on Twitch of the Brent Mukai Podcast! twitch.tv/BrentMukai
Today I try an experiment, and stream my whole episode live! Let me know right now more than ever if this format works or not, or what I can do to improve on it, cause I think there's something about this that is kinda cool. I'm trying another one on Friday join me live at 1pm PST at twitch.tv/brentmukai
This week was fun... perhaps too much fun. As I reflect on a week of cold showers, social media goodness, strengthening some relationships, and overall cool shit, I realize I need to do more short term success work... So there's that. Also in the news, great writer advice, and could I beat MrBrent98? I take a look at him, and think yes. lol.
Christopher Brown and I performed together in Accidental Death of an Anarchist. Throughout the journey of the play, we had some phenomenal talks about acting, drumming, and life. I knew immediately he was the type of guy I'd love to have on the podcast, and in this episode, we go into the craft of acting, break down many of the most popular acting techniques, and Chris shares some of his own secrets. He's a great dude, and if you wanna be an actor, or go deeper in your craft, this is a MUST listen episode.
James Ashby: the writer of the play I was a part of: Accidental Death of an Anarchist, comes to town for the last showing, and sticks around to talk! He gives great advice for writers, and the LA scene in general, and goes real practical on how to build an audience, and work from wherever you are! If you're an aspiring writer in any medium, you'll want to see this for sure! Please check out his podcast that may or may not exist here: fuckyouinternet.com
After a discussion with a buddy, I realized I want insight on how to be more effective, and I think the answer lies in systematic thinking, and computer programming. Also, 6ix9ine is going to prison, I'm totally species-ist about cats and dogs, and a surprise phone in from my mom. Hope you enjoy it, Brent
I get clear on my goals, and talk about all the things that have brought me here. But that all pales in comparison to the monstrosity of finding out that KFC has created a Cheetos Sandwich. That's right. Actual Cheetos. I wish I could say it doesn't look good, but I'd be lying. If I wasn't on Keto, and it was available in Vegas, I'd be eating one right now. Anyways, I give my hot take on the news, and even improvise a commercial for the new Cheetos Sandwich!
Last keynote speaking class of the series, successful play preview and opening, and some news. DMX is released from prison, Indian crocodiles are getting it rough, and Metroid 4 gets pushed back for some reason. Thanks for joining me!
Today, I teach two improv classes, and go the whole day without leaving the Studio, or eating... Now I'm gonna go eat wings. Anyway, Sam Jackson is old, but looks young, Arianna Grande is getting attacked for no reason, okay maybe some reason but it's dumb, and I explain the complications of having a boyhood crush on Nancy Drew.
I had the type of weekend that people dream about. Growth, learning, and growing self confidence! In the news, someone printed a fake newspaper, Steve Carell is doing some space comedy, and Trevor Noah is put on the spot.
In this episode, I talk about the hectic life I'm living currently, gratitude, and I talk about the news and put my foot in my mouth, right before finding out I'm completely wrong. Yup.
Thanks for listening,
In this weeks Wednesday episode, I sing some songs, I deliver a requested monologue, and I offer some opinions about Tiffany Haddish's fur, the Bird Box Challenge, and the newest controversy by Yeezy.
This one was fun, lemme know what you think!
Hello. I put up this episode last night, but messed up the uploaded file. This is why it's important to double check the work! Sorry guys, I'll be better next time, in the mean time, enjoy some songs!
Jacob @audioguyjacob on twitter, and Audio Guy for award winning podcast Ice Cream Social @heyscoops joins me for a wonderful talk about growing up an actor in Louisiana, choosing a life path, and snake guitars. We have fun, and laugh a lot, this is a fun one. Thanks for listening,
This is my 11 year roommate, and the longest friend I've had, Alberto Triana. We moved up to Vegas together, and went to film school together. We've been through it all together, and inspire each other, and he's a badass filmmaker. We go into our early days, and also talk about film and life advice, for going after dreams. Find his awesome work at @sabearmedia and listen to the podcast! Thanks for listening, let me know what you think!
I talk acting with my buddy, Actor, Fighter, Stuntman Jeremiah B. McQueen. You might recognize him from Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Youtube Red, and his lead roles on Legion Max, and Teenage Mules on Netflix. Acting was my first love, and this is one of my favorite conversations to have. As always thanks for listening,
I sit down with Jim and Nick of the Pod Therapy Podcast. These guys are legit therapists who do a podcast where they dole out advice coming from a purely psychological standpoint. We enjoy a fun conversation about improv, teaching, psychology, helping others, the stigma of mental health issues, and a few jokes along the way. You don't wanna miss this one!
I get fired up in this episode. I take a look back at all the shit that's brought me to the place where I'm at now. In that reflection I gain more gratitude, and hopefully put a little positivity into your life. This episode explores a bit of my origin story, so if you'd indulge me, I'd deeply appreciate it!
Thank you to all who sent in Would You Rather questions for my new segment, and please feel free to send me more on any social media, or at my email at BrentMukaiVO@gmail.com
Love ya, talk again soon,
I sit down in Creamistry Ice Cream Shop in LA with an old friend of mine from Hawaii, Katrina Valcourt: Managing Editor for Honolulu Magazine, and a friend I literally met hours before doing the podcast, Lisa Kotowski: Physicist from California. We dive into what teenage Brent was like, the inner working of physics, and a big debate on the strengths of right brain, left brain, and creativity!
Let me know what you think! Thanks for listening!
Do you like working out? If not, are you looking for a new, fun alternative to the regular gym? Are you already fit, and looking for a new challenge? Do you hate these questions?
Well I sat down and talked with the woman who introduced me to Crossfit, Madeline Boldt! We talk at the Gym Kaizen Crossfit, here in Las Vegas, where week after week I've been killing myself trying to get more fit! She gives great advice on how to start, how to keep going, and what fitness can teach us about life. Give it a listen, and let me know what you think! Oh, and Happy Halloween!
I met Justin Green 2 years ago, and instantly hit it off. He had moved from Buffalo to Las Vegas, and his dream was to open up a Comedy Sportz (An internationally recognized improv comedy franchise) in Las Vegas.
I've seen a lot of people come and go in this town, and while I had high hopes, I wasn't holding my breath. Now, two years later, Justin is Creative Director and one of the Co-Founders of Las Vegas Comedy Sportz! He's one of the most fun guys I know, and I hope you love him as much as I do.
We talk improv, teaching, and life, and I hope you have some takeaways. If the artform of improv fascinates you, or you're just looking to peek through the curtain of how two people can get onstage and produce comedy from nothing, then this episode is for you!
Lemme know what you think, and I love you all!
Today I talk about life, the online dating journey, and I took a class on keynote speaking with one of the best in the business. Lot's of fodder. Thanks for listening as alway, and let me know what you think!
I get a chance to nerd out with my good friend, as he's known on Twitch as AdamantMTG! Magic the Gathering is an extremely fun game, and even if you don't think it's up your alley, check him out on Twitch, and see for yourself! He's a wonderful human, breeding a community, and he's a great up and comer on Twitch, check him out! And as always, thanks for listening, let me know what you think!
In this episode, I discuss #humblebrag how much more productive I am when I take my head out of my ass. I also am in search of a better morning routine. Last but not least, I spill the beans on the date from last week. Love ya!
Welcome to the first edition of Whacky Wednesdays! This podcast is now bi-weekly! I wanted to try something new, so I took the Season 5 episode/long monologue of one of my favorite shows Bojack Horseman, and performed it! Well, really it was mostly a cold read, but it was fun! More Whacky Wednesdays with fun content coming your way! Until then, see you Friday!
Different format today, I've got a date tonight, and I explore my feelings on tonight, as well as the history behind my last date. Then I do a Cafe Rio ad. CAFE RIO HIRE ME FOR YOUR ADS!
Thanks for listening!
I talk about my own vulnerabilities, and struggles in the last few weeks. It's very hard for me to understand the best combination of kindness to being hard on myself, and now as a new self-employed person, I explore that side of it all. Hope you enjoy, let me know what you think!
I recorded my first character demo, and explain what that means in the voiceover world, and also finished up my first audiobook!
Oh also, I donated blood, so I'm sort of a hero, but whatever, no big deal.
