For many of our student-athletes, they dream about playing lacrosse in college. It's a dream and goal that we help try and achieve for each of them. For Cylan, he's off to RPI in New York to pursue his dream and for Daniela, she's still in the process of it all. It was bound to happen at some point, we lost an episode and so we had to go another round to bring you episode 5. This time, we have Thomas and Omar from our Junior Varsity Eagles team. A lot of our focus has been on our two Varsity teams, so it was finally time to give some love to our JV Eagles and their season. With a large graduating class, many of our JV Eagles are on deck to replace and help lead the Varsity Eagles team. From some of the very first Bridge Lacrosse games at St. Philip's School & Community Center to the creation of the Bridge Lacrosse Alumni Association, Jacob Gonzalez has seen just about everything Bridge has to offer. Even after a hiatus from Bridge, Jacob has returned to Bridge with a new energy for our mission and work. After finishing winless in back-to-back seasons, our Eagles made an unprecedented run at the THSLL Class D state title. It was an incredible year with a very special group of seniors. Season 2 is here and we are back! It's been awhile, but we're just going to jump right in like it hasn't been a long 9 months since season 1. We're going to kick off with four of our Panthers from the Texas D3 Championship team! That's right, our girls fought and earned a title for the 2021 season. We welcomed Daniela, Kimaari, J Lo and JJ to the podcast to recap their unprecedented and historic season. From the uncertainty of COVID and the fear of a second shortened season to a tough road loss midway through the year to the championship game surrounded by friends and family, we get a deep dive into our champion winning team. With a new school year upon us, it's time to an extended break from the Bridge Broadcast and wrap up season 1. With the help of Coach Jason and two of our Varsity Panther, Daniela and JJ, we recap the major events of the last six months, from (of course) COVID, to the continued efforts for racial justice, mental health and a little bit of everything between. It's been a challenging six months but it's been a pleasure to share the Bridge Family with everyone through this new medium. Season 2 coming soon.

Even after six years removed from playing in a Bridge and St. Philip's Saints jersey, Malcolm Herod remained ever present and engaged in the Bridge Family. Having recently graduated from the Episcopal School of Dallas, Malcolm joins us to catch up on old times with Bridge, life in COVID, his future plans, entrepreneurship and race in lacrosse.

After a brief break following our last episode, we are back! This time, we're with our four Detweiler Family Scholarship winners just as they begin their fall semesters of college. We know that paying for college can be incredibly tough for many of our kids and alumni, and being able to contribute a small amount has been a great opportunity. It was great to hear their aspirations and get insight into their journeys. Lastly, we want to once again thank the Detweiler Family and all of the supporters of our scholarship.

The qualities and skills of nonprofit leaders are incredibly important, perhaps now more than ever, as we continue to navigate COVID and the momentum around racial justice and healing. We are joined by our friend Marissa Castro Mikoy, the incoming CEO of Jubilee Park and outgoing CEO of After-School All-Stars North Texas. We discuss a variety of tasks required of leaders in our realm. Thank you, Marissa, for joining us.

Following up from our Listen & Learn forum, we spoke with three of our speakers about their thoughts and recap of our event. We discussed our appreciation of the support and reach the event had, as well as hit on a few topics that went a little deeper into race and where we go next. We know there's a lot we must continue to do and we are thankful for the opportunity to speak with young people about these issues.

We invited the North Texas Lacrosse community and our Bridge Lacrosse family to actively listen and learn from the student-athletes and alumni of Bridge. Listen and Learn was the opportunity to share a variety of unique perspectives with those around us, all pertaining to the experiences of a lacrosse player of color. Since the murder of George Floyd, our kids have experienced many different emotions and we wanted to provide them a platform to share. We thank everyone for their participation and we are determined to continue fighting for justice and against racism and hate in our community. 

For more than two months, our Bridge Family has been in quarantine and shelter-in-place. And, as we all look at returning to some sense of normalcy, we wanted to chat with three of our Junior Varsity student-athletes to see what they've learned and experienced. Shelter-in-place has presented us with many challenges but also a chance to experience new things, like Tik Tok. Big thanks to Alexis, Palos and Thomas.

Without a doubt the hardest working members of our Bridge Family, are our parents and families. We are thankful, and often spoiled, by how much they support and give back to our organization. In this episode we talk with a group of six Bridge parents who have been a part of our organization for almost a decade. They've each seen the incredible growth we've sustained, and played a vital role in all of our successes.

Now that 'The Last Dance' is over and everyone is nicely caught up on the greatness of Michael Jordan, it's time to have the great debate. In this episode, Coach Byron Bailey and Coach Eric Anderson take on two of our high school Eagles and discuss who the one true GOAT really is. We had a lot of fun in this one, but ultimately (spoilers) we all know that Jordan is the Greatest Of All Time.

In our first ever non-sports or lacrosse related podcast, we take a look at our favorite Pixar movies and slowly argue away to a Top 10  list. This one was a lot of fun and a great chance to talk about something other than lacrosse with three of our high school Panthers and Eagles. We get through our top 10 favorites and also share some of our favorite scenes and characters. Shoutout to Ne'Covia, Adrian and Maya for joining!

There are only a few organizations that share our mission and passion for what the sport of lacrosse can do for kids and communities. One of those is OWLS Lacrosse in Chicago. We were joined by founding Executive Director, Sam Angelotta, to get an in-depth look at OWLS, their challenges and successes. We shared some notes, great stories and a challenge for some Zoom charades between our teams.

We switch it up a little bit for this episode and present our Top 10 sports movies. With an elite team of 5 members of our family, we (kinda) managed to agree on a solid list of 10 of our favorite sports movies, and movies that represent the values and mission of Bridge Lacrosse. We had a ton of fun with this one!

For Bridge and our teams, coaching presents a variety of challenges, some more unique to us than others. We sit down with three of our most experienced coaches and discuss coaching philosophies, competing and finding success. Bridge coaches are some of the most talented and gifted coaches, but seldom do we find the time to truly talk about the skillset and art of coaching.

Bridge Lacrosse has been around for more than a decade, and joining us for a full history lesson is our founder, Edie Lycke. We owe her so much and had a great conversation about our origins and the evolution of our mission and programs. From our first team at St. Philip's to what the future looks like, we discuss a little bit of everything from our timeline and more.

It's been several years, but we finally got the opportunity to catch up with a Bridge alumnae who, for almost two years, has been in Panama with the Peace Corps. Chantal Castillo is a former Panther and Irma L. Rangel YWLS graduate. After COVID hit, she and others in the Peace Corps had to put an abrupt stop to their work and return home immediately. We get a chance to hear about her work with the Peace Corps and farming in Panama, and what's next for her, after COVID.

Just days before many cities went under quarantine, we got to see our friends in Austin, Texas at New Horizons Lacrosse (NHL). In this episode we get a chance to catch up with Rakhi Agrawal, a coach and the Director of Development for NHL. We discussed their mission and programs, and the challenges they face every day. In addition, we discussed the future of nonprofits after COVID and how we can continue to meet the needs of those we serve.

A special guest and alumnae makes her Bridge Broadcast debut. Karla Garcia joins us from her Pleasant Grove home where we talk about her journey as a first-generation student to the University of North Carolina and, now, to the youngest ever and first Latina Dallas ISD trustee. Karla has an incredible passion to see students, like her, gain access and opportunities through her work with Dallas County Promise. We are so thankful to have amazing leaders from our Bridge Family return home to support so many others.

Following our talk with the Panther Varsity seniors, we have four of our five Eagle seniors catching up during their quarantine. These four have 23 years combined history with Bridge Lacrosse and it was great to hear their stories on coming up through Bridge and their plans for after high school. 

In our first multi-guest podcast, we are joined by our four seniors from our Varsity Panthers team. Our 2020 Class was disrupted by COVID-19 more so than any other, and we go a chance to talk to them about their experience, Bridge and what they're looking forward to this coming fall. Big shoutout to these four Panthers, part of a very special Class of 2020.
