153 | What’s actually keeping you from a life you love?
We don’t lose ourselves in motherhood, we lose ourselves in survival mode. We lose ourselves in the day to day rush. We lose ourselves in placing our value in the things we do, instead of the people we are.
We get caught in this trap of survival mode in early motherhood, and when we don’t intentionally rebuild our lives again, we tend to get stuck in a cycle of survival. This is where we lose ourselves.
Living a life you’re in love with means ditching the belief that you belong in survival mode. This is your sign to spread your wings and learn to fly. This is your time to rise above the crap, and remember that you are meant to bloom.

Like it or not, you’re going to have to learn to love yourself if you want any of the personal growth, mental health, or happy hacks to stick. If you’re not loving yourself, you’re not really believing you’re worthy of anything better than you’ve already got.
It may be a controversial idea, but you cannot fully love others if you don’t first love yourself. If you’re not loving yourself, you’re not willing to accept the love others attempt to give you, and that means you’re not fully loving them to your greatest extent.
Self love is not selfish. Self care is not selfish. They are the basic human needs you keep trying to skip over. Letting your soul run dry for the sake of putting others first is slowly killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. In that version of the story, no one wins. I prefer the story where true love saves the day. That’s your story.

You’re sitting here doubting your worth again. It’s become your comfort zone. You might be believing there’s no other way to live anymore. It can feel terrifying to step out of this comfort zone, it’s new, it’s unknown, and that’s scary.
Letting go of who you think you are is a process. It’s a give and take. It’s a back and forth. It’s a path with peaks and valleys.
It’s a leap of faith, stepping from your comfort zone of self doubt into the uncertainty of questioning your identity.
If you really knew who you are, you wouldn’t doubt yourself for a second, you wouldn’t doubt anything at all. Unfortunately, we are often quick to forget after making the discovery of who we are. It’s a process, and this is just the beginning.

146 | Setting soul goals - becoming who you’re really meant to be.
Here’s the thing, it’s not really the new year. Today is simply the day we reset our calendars and dive into a new planner. But in nature, this is Winter. Winter is a time of rest and renewal - the time for new beginnings doesn’t happen until March.
By all means, make a resolution for the year, set goals in that fresh new planner and put important dates on your calendar. But DO NOT get your panties in a bunch and get down on yourself for not suddenly waking up a new person today. This is literally the worst time of the natural year to try to become something you aren’t.
Here’s what I’m doing differently. I’m choosing an intention - something to aim for in the coming months, but I’m not holding myself to any unrealistic standards. I’m not going to feel bad if I fall short on my goals to get me there. I’m not going to let guilt make me quit on who I’m meant to be.

I’ve been called lazy many times in my life, mostly by my mom (parents just don’t understand). I tried to fight it for so long, and when I finally gave in, things started to fall into place. Let me explain this, I had it all wrong. I wore that false label while holding in my heart the truth and it caused a rift in how I viewed myself. I never felt lazy, but because I was experiencing depression, fatigue and burnout, I always felt like it was impossible to get anything done.
I know we’ve talked about how we place an unrealistic expectation on ourselves and end up hurt that we can’t accomplish an impractical and inhuman amount of work in a day while juggling the home, the husband, the kids, and your own sanity… But today I want to take the time to discuss laziness, or our self-perceived laziness to be more specific.

I used to have this bad habit of over planning, over spending, and over extending myself for every single family gathering. I'd spend days obsessing over the menu, the guest list, the gifts, and worst of all - cleaning every hidden area of my home that no one visiting had any business even seeing. I'm telling you this because I get a sense that maybe you're getting a little stressed out and worked up over the upcoming holidays and I have a lot to say about that in today's episode on Meant to Bloom.
I knew something had to change about the way I was handling the hosting season when I found myself crying in my bedroom during a party, yet again, while a successful event was happening outside my door. I'd done everything I needed to do, I'd planned right, the guest had shown up, the house was clean and decorated, but I couldn't hold it together long enough to finish cooking dinner all by myself. I left my husband in charge of the kitchen and took a much needed break, but I knew this was sustainable. I'd thrown a great family party but I knew I never wanted to feel that way again.
I learned more about myself - I'm an introvert - which I've known for a very long time, but I didn't know exactly what that meant. I thought for too long it meant I didn't like people, or preferred to be alone. I learned too late in my life that it simply meant I needed to take time alone to recharge so that I could fully enjoy the company of others. I long for those missed opportunities in my younger years. There's a great importance to understanding yourself and accepting who you are with grace and compassion.
I read a book that really inspired me to scale back what I was doing, rethink why I was doing it, and focus in on fewer tasks so I could actually do a good job and put the love I intended into it. In this book I learned to stop obsessing over covering every inch of my home in decor that went unappreciated and never gave it the classy, cozy feel I was going for. I learned to focus on home cooking fewer items and delegating the rest to other guests, my husband, or simply buying premade from the grocery deli. I learned how to make my home cozy and guest ready so I didn't have to drive myself insane the week of an event. I want to share everything I learned to hosting a simple holiday party without sacrificing your sanity here in today's episode.

As you may know, I’m currently in a season of letting peripheral things go or be as easy as possible in order to very peacefully prioritize my life. My focus right now is on family and I’m trying to let my actions reflect that, and be very intentional with how my time is spent.
There’s two absolute truths:
1. Easy isn’t always simple. & 2. Guilt is garbage.
This last year I put a heavy focus on letting things be “easy.” I had no idea at the time that I would have to overcome so many mental roadblocks before that could really happen.
Easy isn’t always easy - especially when it comes with guilt that you’re not “doing enough.”

128 | Supporting your mental health with an anti-depression diet; food is medicine
Food is medicine, be wise with how you use it. First off - let’s not subscribe to the theory that we shouldn’t reward ourselves with food. Food is vital. Food is life.
Many cultures have used food to celebrate for centuries - it’s the center of every family gathering, holiday, party… Don’t discount the power of good food.
Where it gets dangerous is when we withhold food and save it as a reward - always celebrate. Celebrate the failures, the losses, the endings - celebrate how far you’ve come, celebrate what you’ve learned, celebrate anyway. Never without food from yourself because you feel unworthy of it - it’s the medicine that holds what you need to heal, to grow, to keep on growing.
For the most part, I've found keeping a strict diet to be counter productive in your mental health healing. Adding a new challenge to your life, something to potentially feel bad about when you miss the mark, it’s not helpful for someone who’s already struggling with self worth and motivation to do your daily life.
Let’s keep it simple.

123 | The #1 thing you can do today to become a happier person, even through depression, burnout, and chaos in motherhood
In all my years living with depression, it was the way I allowed myself to think about myself, my circumstances and my life that caused me the most damage. It was all the negative thinking, all the self-criticism, all the hatred that infested me like an infection and led me down the darkest of paths when a depression episode, burn out, or a minor inconvenience came along. “Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.” - Proverbs 4:23 The best thing I ever did for myself and my family was to change the way I allowed myself to think. I instilled a zero tolerance policy for self-bullying and that inevitably led to a higher capacity for happiness. This is the first step to becoming a happy mom.
Think about the way you think. Change your mind, change your life.
